I've got to agree. When I was a kid, I thought bully was excellent. Looking back at the re-runs, I laugh my head off at the prizes. I also realise that Jim B was the best host ever. My kids dont see it, but I do. He had a great sense of humour and timing.
Thank you so much for posting this... I've been looking for it for years! Don was my uncle (sadly he died of leukemia about 12 years ago). I've downloaded this and I'll be posting it on Facebook for his wife and daughters to see - I was going to link straight to this page, but there are far too many negative, ignorant comments which I don't want them to see. Thank you again... form all the McIntyre family! :-)
Just seen this comment. Sad to hear about your uncles passing, but its great that he's still being watched to this day, even though he's now been gone 20 years or so. Nice that the family all got to see this legendary clip all together too.
I know that they weren't to know but they risked and lost for a holiday. After a fortnight holiday they would only have had the physical prizes that they gambled anyway as a momento of their time on the show. I've always thought that a holiday as a quiz show prize isn't as good as physical prizes. After the holiday is over all you are left with are memories.
Peter Kay does a spot on impression of him when he does that. "Now Barry, before you whisk your lovely new wife, Julie, off to your honeymoon, it's over there in Barbados...LETS HAVE A LOOK AT WHAT YOU COULD HAVE MARRIED! OOH SHE'S FIFTEEN! SHE'S FILLIPINO! TAKE ER BACK BOYS! TAKER ER BACK!"
I remember watching Jim do stand up - he did a bit about Bullseye and mentioned a couple that had gambled all their prizes...and lost. His reaction? 'Good job, you greedy bastards' 🤣🤣🤣
£890 for themselves plus £730 for their charity (which also won Lionel Smith that season's Bronze Bully) - both of which are safe regardless of what happens next. Then to win every prize on Bully's Prize Board. I can't blame these guys for having a gamble. They probably never felt so lucky before.
To be fair, that's a really nice star prize, even today. All the darts player had to do was to aim for treble 14 and I'm sure he would have got more than 40 with 3 darts
That holiday was worth nowhere near what a new car woud be worth back then though. Anyway they won £890 which is probably more than that holiday would cost in the early 80s.
yes tony looks very dapper in his chalk blue double breasted blazer, this was really amazing winning every prize, it must have amounted to at least £95
Annoys me when people today comment on how crap the prizes looked. Yes, a few were but in the early 80’s items such as tumble dryers, microwaves etc were new technology and therefore expensive. Even the humble VCR cost a tidy packet.
Exactly. £100 worth of books. £100 in 1986 is the equivalent of £294 today and that's just one prize. They'd already got £800+ cash as well. Worth about £2,300 today. Not bad for a teatime gameshow. Add all the other prizes, factor in inflation, plus 2 villas in Corfu for 2 weeks and you're talking about a serious chunk of money all in.
Come back Jim,,we miss you! Great show and far better than the rubbish thats on these days. Don was unlucky, bit of nerves, they earned the right to gamble, both very good players. This isnt a few arrows down the pub,,lots of pressure with a TV audience. Its great TV!
there was another one where all 9 prizes were won and the couple gambled on the 101 or more with six darts and won the lot and the star prize by scoring 104 is this one on TH-cam as well
Hhhaaaaaaaaaahahahahaaaaaaaaaa That’s the funniest choke I’ve ever seen 😂😂😂😂 Cleaned up and even the non darts player set it all up and the dart played dropped his arse
I had a hot point tumble dryer looked like that....worked for years until it almost burnt the shed down as smoke billowed out of the gap under the dials, was lucky I was in the garden

They had a two-wheeled unicycle the following week
And a three wheeled quad the week later
Aw watching this ruined my day. Used to love it when they gambled and won.
They don’t do creases in trousers like that anymore, what a glorious age it was.
Doed anyone else have the same spontaneous urge to do a bit of local fly-tipping when they see that set of neatly presented "prizes"?

I used to laugh when the special prize was a speedboat and the contestants came from a tower block somewhere in Birmingham.

Always thought the speedboat went to someone in Derby, whoever lived in the Birmingham tower block won a barbecue and a set of patio furniture.
