It's never made sense to me why the people winning awards, who are the reason this ceremony exists in the first place, get rushed off the stage after 45-60 seconds. It’s because the oscars aren’t made to appreciate the art anymore, it’s effectively all one big advertisement now (what everyone’s wearing and what films you “should” watch according to the people who payed top dollar for their nominations). • @terig8974
      @terig8974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      A lot of LA homeless people aren't sad charity cases. They're given quite a but and they often refuse shelter. They just go up to a public area and dominate it often making sidewalks unusable. Many are also violent towards passers-by. They ruin private businesses and public spaces.
      Some homeless people are simply in an unfortunate situation, but those people tend to at least find a more discreet place to sleep, urinate and defecate. We've had to clean human feces and hypodermic needles from our private home property on several occasions.

    • @corbin7150
      @corbin7150 3 ปีที่แล้ว +53

      @@terig8974 I think it’s very ignorant to say that houseless people refuse shelter and “ruin” public spaces. Where else are they supposed to camp out, private property? And in the case of the small group of people who are violent or similar, they’re the ones you notice because they’re the outliers. There’s multiple reasons why someone would refuse to live in a shelter, and ultimately if they do refuse it’s because they think it’s the worse option.

    • @terig8974
      @terig8974 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

       @Corbin I'm speaking from experience. Many of the people who takeover sidewalks have been offered shelter. I live very close to the homeless both in proximity and socioeconomically. Most homeless people aren't violent and aggressive, but having people live permanently on a public sidewalk that everyone needs to use, including the wheelchair bound is untenable. They don't have anymore right to takeover public property than anyone else does. They also create unsanitary conditions. We have a serious rat problem that requires a lot of work to try to improve.
      It's ironic that you're calling me ignorant when I have quite a bit of experience on the topic. I was homeless myself for a short period of time. I have psychological issues that make it difficult for me to maintain work and relationships. I relate to a lot of homeless people. I've had friends and acquaintances who are/were homeless. The mentality that you and most people have about the homeless is the same mentality I had when I was still living with my parents. Homelessness if horrible. That doesn't mean that they should be aloud to claim whatever they want as their own.

    What really is so disgusting, sad, and kinda unsurprising about the in memorial segment is that they included fucking Kim Ki-Duk but didn’t leave any room for Obayashi (director of Hausu) For those who don’t know Kim was a very respected art film director that made movies like 3-Iron. But yet he’s also… let’s just say, in my words the “Harvey Weinstein” of the Korean film industry or at least one of them. And yet he’s in here being memorialized in the Oscars probably because no one would know him, and Kim’s films have not been nominated for anything and he’s not that big of a name like Bong, Park, or even Lee Chang-dong. Just wanted to point that out because I absolutely lost it during that but yet no one seems to talk about it. I still respect his movies but Ki-Duk is a terrible person.

    All Academy Award shows always have and always will be nothing but vanity projects for the Hollywood elite. 7 out of 10 times, the movies that were actually good never win any of the important awards. I know all aspects of making a movie are important and should be rewarded and recognized. The problem is no one care if a movie won best costume or best editing. The only ones people, especially Hollywood producers and executives, care about are best picture, best director, best actor, and sometimes best screenplay. Being a winner is either based on how good you can kiss the asses of the judges, selecting the best clips since judges can't be bothered watching an entire movie (even though it's their fucking job), or which winner will make the Academy look good on social media.
    Not having a host made the whole thing feel disjointed. I've heard that one of their reasons was they were paranoid about another potentially problematic person giving the Oscars a bad name. Someone ought to tell the people in charge that there are plenty of celebrities who aren't racist, sexist, homophobic pieces of shit who would make great hosts. But they get ignored because they're not as big as Neil Patrick Harris, Chris Rock, or Ellen DeGeneres. I know some people will argue that the Oscars don't matter because it's just a shiny hunk of metal that doesn't actually determine quality. The problem is executives and investors do care about those shiny hunks of metal; they determine which actors and directors are worth hiring for future projects. Hence why the "Oscars so white" controversy was such a big deal. Sure, some indie films win awards, but they're usually the "safe" ones that don't challenge anything and tell generic stories a group of teens on TH-cam could tell for free.
    At this point, all academy award shows should just not exist. The people who won should get the trophies mailed to them, and the nominees should get letters explaining that they were nominated. The internet already keeps us up to date on the winners and nominees, and celebrities brag about their victories on social media. So there's really no need to have a whole ass 4-hour award show. Especially since no one watches it anymore.
