You should point out that there can be a need for "over10000AIC "breakers and cans which include meter bases as well as panels and disconnects.

An interesting story : I was supplied with several multi meter bases by the power company which I mounted and which I fed service disconnects with their expensive breakers installed. The power company shows up and stakes out their transformer location within a few feet which sent off alarms bells in my head. The potential would be great for fault current damaging my equipment and so I asked the power company if they planned on folding their feeder cable in the ditch. They said no. Then I requested then that they move their transformer location stakes further from my equipment so as to keep me from replacing my panels and breakers with the much higher costing "over 10,000AIC " rated ones. They said no. My next question was then when can I expect them to supply the higher rated meter bases to me. They moved the transformer location!😂

Hi John, AIC stands for Available Interrupt Current. The utility company will have this information for you. It's pretty important too so the breaker will trip and not explode when fault current passes through it.

I beg to differ. I think you might be confusing Short Circuit Current, which is the amount of current available in a short circuit condition. That information the Utility Company would have, because they are the ones with the distribution transformers and the distributed power supply. The Utility Company does not make the Circuit Breakers or Fuses (OCPD) used inside your Panel. So basically, the information written on the breaker is saying that this breaker has the ability (Capacity) to clear (Interrupt) a surge current (Amperage) of yada....yada...!! When you put it all together, you get (AIC) = Amperage Interrupting Capacity.

    What is KAIC in circuitbreaker?

      KAIC - is simply AIC in 1,000 increments... K= 1,000 / Example 10KAIC = 10,000 AIC
