The albums "A Mulher do Fim do Mundo" (2015) and "Deus é Mulher" (2018) were very successfull and celebrated. She won many awards for them and she kept doing concerts (sold out every time). Her voice was quite impressive live, even though she would be seated during concerts (normal since she was over 80 yo). Maybe you could check some songs from this albums. My favourite song from Elza is one from her album in 2015, called Maria da Vila Matilde. Here in Brazil, there's a law called Maria da Penha that serves to protect women from domestic abuse. Penha is a neighborhood here in São Paulo, so the writer (Douglas Germano) changed to Vila Matilde cause it was the neighborhood his mother, that also suffered from domestic violence from his father. And Elza also went through the same abuse, one of them by a famous soccer player, Mané Garrincha. So this song is an anthem against domestic violence. Elza has a really harsh history and still gave us all her talents. She was born in a really poor family, at 21 she was already a widow with four children to raise, having already lost two newborn children to malnutrition a few years earlier, and a daughter had been kidnapped a year ago. She had 8 kids, and just 4 are still alive. One of them died because of pneumonia so she enrolled in the musical contest of the radio program Calouros em Desfile made by Ary Barroso. He tried to make fun of her because of the simple clothes she was wearing (a loose dress of her mother's held up with pins) and he asked in a mocking tone what planet she came from, to which she replied "from the same planet as you, from the hungry planet" '. Shortly after the performance, he declared that a star was born there due to the woman's talent. And with that, she was able to buy the medicine and save her son. She was a warrior and an example as a woman, not wanting to romanticize suffering. It was a great loss for Brazilian music.

Elza is the BIGGEST singer in Brazil and that's on period! She's the biggest influence on Brazilian hip hop, she's the queen of samba, when no other black woman could, Elza opened the doors! Today I'm so proud to say that she died resting, without any suffering. Elza Soares is an icon, a legend, with a life story of a lot of struggle and overcoming. She was elected by the BBC London as "the singer of the millennium" in 1999. She sang to the end, as she wished and as she said/sang in her last album: “Até o fim eu vou cantar, eu quero cantar Eu quero é cantar, eu vou cantar até o fim”
11:00 It was not only well received, it became a generational anthem, and she had 71 years old by the time of this song! Elza had such a rough life, since very young, but she put everything on her music and she became one of the mirrors of revolution and self-acceptance in Brazil, so she never tried some new style just for the clout, she was among those who introduced those styles, influencing and being influenced, respected and being respected. She kept evolving and she sang up until the end, as vigorously, revolutionary and enthusiastic as ever. One of our greatest singers of all times, R.I.P.
When she says "psychiatric hospitals" she is referring to a great case that existed here in Brazil until the 90's where people (mostly black people) were sent for no reason to psychiatric hospitals, where they performed all kinds of experiments (like Jews in concentration camps). After the end of the military dictatorship, consolidation of what were human rights and the ONU, these hospitals were extinguished. There is a book that talks about this and it is called: Holocausto Brasileiro (Brazilian Holocaust). If you google that name in portuguese, you will see the pictures, there must be documentaries too, if you are interested.
Saravá A história dessa mulher é impressionante, perseguida, achincalhada, roubada, maltrata, exilada e sempre dando a volta por cima. Ela é monumental e pouco reconhecida no próprio país. Ela é FODA. Vale muito passear por sua obra. Saúde
Elza was one of the greatest interpreters of Brazilian music, I am very proud to say that I was born in the same country as this powerful woman. She always understood the problems that occur in our daily lives and spoke clearly in her songs, and she had a long career, which started at the end of the 1950s. She was married to one of the greatest football players in the history of our country who had serious problems with alcoholism and she suffered a lot at his hand because of this, but even with all the problems she died saying that he was the great love of her life. A woman who is to be used as an example and an inspiration to the black movement. VIVA ELZA!!!!
she was married for over a decade to one of the most famous soccer players ever, but sadly she endured a lot of domestic violence from him…. in addition to that, she first got married at 13, to an acquaintance of her family, and had her first child at that time, who died…. in fact, i think four of her seven children passed, but not sure…. but she’s an icon
I'm seeing so many of us - brasilians - trying to explain to you how important Elza was to our culture. Not only for the music, but for the attitude too. She was a black woman in a country not used to see black people or women lay the law. But she was never quiet. So... She represented a lot. She was a queeen. I do remember that song caused a lot of talk, but she was most praised for the courage to say the obvious. I remember seeing her on mtv all the time, and the fact that she was already older than some of the most proeminent artists on the market, in that she was a goddess too... She topped the sharts on mtv with that song. Anyhow... She was huge over here, and she used it to make people discuss important issues. Great lady. We will miss her a lot.
The first time she sang professionally she was very young, she went in a TV show singing contest, she had already lost 3 children, they starved to death... She used an old dress, everybody laughed of her when she entered the studio, and then the owner of the show asked her "What planet are you from?", and she answered "I'm from planet Hunger", and then they stopped laughing and became very serious. When she opened her mouth and released her voice the crowd was stunned, and from that day ahead her life would never be the same
Only after I saw that a lot of people ask for the singer Cartola -top hat- I will quickly summarize its importance in the Brazilian music scene. Born in October 1908 and only consecrated as an artist in old age, he only made his first album at the age of 66, died at the age of 72, the singer, composer and guitarist Cartola remains one of the most important and inspired references in Brazilian music. The best observation is that, despite his “late” success, Cartola is today recognized by Brazilian artists, researchers and critics for the importance he has for the country's cultural production. I wonder how many Nelsons Cavaquinhos -Nelson Cavaquinho- , how many Cartolas, how many Noeis -Noel Rosa- (brazilian black samba singers) existed and did not reach the record market, the radio and were ‘invisible’ like most samba musicians. The samba dancers were targets of enormous prejudice due to the fact that they were poor and black. The construction of samba as a great national genre was not easy, it did not take place in a friendly, harmonious way. It was not. It was conflicting. Everything in the field of culture takes place in a conflictive way. And with samba it would be no different. I don't know if you'll read all that I wrote hahaha, but if so, I hope it inspires you to listen. A big hug 4u 😘😘
Grande, enorme brasileira.
React to O Rappa - "Reza vela" or O Rappa - "O que sobrou do Céu" or O Rappa "minha alma". One of the best Brazilian band no matter what talk about, they mixed Hip-hop, hard-core, Instrumentals, Reggae, Rock and Rap. Marcelo Falcão has poetic written and his rhymes are many specials. His point of view is fuck amazing. The band stopped there's activities in 2016, standing the fans a holle deep and dark in there's heart. The twice music in the top, are specials too much, both couse was shoked the society in his debuts, as well as in the following months. watching the video clips there's you gonna have a chance to feel the aspect and mind set of this brazuca band.#AXE.
In the last years Elza was very sick but still doing a lot of shows. Elza is a samba singer with a long long history. An increadble woman. Try to listen your music and enjoy. Sorry about my english.
As I can't speak or write in English, I'm using Google Translate, I hope you understand. Well, Elza Soares worked until she was 91 years old. He sang until the end. Elza was always up to date with what was the "beat" of the moment. I highly recommend researching his history and career over the years. For you to see her importance, even Beyoncé paid tribute to her in her passing. She went from samba to funk, passing through MPB and Bossa Nova. She was also the first female Samba School performer to lead a parade.
Precisamos vencer o racismo, a desigualdade e a opressão.
this song was very well received by us Brazilians. who were homesick or didn't know elza soares' work. she didn't ask us to hear the song, we begged her not to stop singing. in brazil it doesn't matter what skin color to be discriminated against and treated like trash in brazil you don't need small injustices for blacks to break everything, in brazil injustice is part of everyday life if the brazilian went out breaking everything there is no use, the government puts the police to chase with tear gas bombs dogs and shots, the only revenge of some wronged is to take weapons to oppress and steal other poor and rich who discover that money doesn't buy happiness. the dumb and lazy rich sell everything at a bargain price to feel rich in a country of miserable people to support the luxuries and waste of rich countries, including their country. you can be sure that black americans go through is nothing compared to what we brazilians go through
Thanks for showing so much respect. Elza was the greatest female artist of Brazil. A great singer that started her carreer in 1950. More than f**king seventy years in activity. In the week she died, a live show of her was recorded to be released in the future. After all this time, and still releasing live records, do you believe that? One of her most famous songs is named "let me sing untill the end" ("me deixe cantar até o fim", in portuguese). Her will was made. Absolutely legendary! Sorry for the english mistakes. Greetings fron Brazil!
Elza Soares was a timeless singer, her songs were recognized by young people and adults. It had a history of struggle, it was black, it got out of poverty, overcame all kinds of obstacles and prejudices and was successful until the last days of its life. She is a singer who is proud to say that she is Brazilian. sorry - google tradutor
Reaja a música "A mulher do fim do mundo# 🙏⚘
Viva Elza.
In 2020, I had the stouning oportunity to record Elza Soares in one of the many live concerts she "virtually attended to" during the covid pandemic. She was 90 at the time. It was one of the most meaningful moments of my existence, for real. Yet she was very debilitated by the her advanced age and couldn't speak much, everyfuckingtime she oppened her mounth (even just to speak short answers or objetctions, because she was clearly not able to speak much) it was something that it felt needed to be said. She was a force of nature. It's really some deep content you got over there, man. Nice to see someone from abrod taking a look at us from "down" here. I've been following your videos since you started reacting to Racionais. Tamo junto, meu querido! Um salve de Minas Gerais!
Oh bro, Elza was a woman from the hills, the favelas, the samba! She was a warrior until her last days of life... She represented samba, pagode, rap, hip hop. She was restless! Elza never stopped!
I went to her show when I was about 7 yo with my parents, I remember how I felt, and now, 20 years later, I still get gossebumbs with her songs. I felt her death like she was a close friend.

11:00
It was not only well received, it became a generational anthem, and she had 71 years old by the time of this song! Elza, você nos faz muita falta!
she was a great singer in my Brazil! This song is very special and powerfull
Elza was so amazing, that even young people stopped to listen and respect what she passed on to us through her music.
Saravá
A história dessa mulher é impressionante, perseguida, achincalhada, roubada, maltrata, exilada e sempre dando a volta por cima.
I aways get emotional listening to this song.
Ave, Elza!
she was married for over a decade to one of the most famous soccer players ever, but sadly she endured a lot of domestic violence from him….
in addition to that, she first got married at 13, to an acquaintance of her family, and had her first child at that time, who died…. in fact, i think four of her seven children passed, but not sure…. but she’s an icon
Elza Soares is respected and very talented! an incomparable artist
Viva Elza Soares!
When she opened her mouth and released her voice the crowd was stunned, and from that day ahead her life would never be the same
This song won several awards.
It was deservedly marked in the memory of several generations.
Elza was and is an influence for all of us!
I can say from 2022 this one of her greatest hits! RIP Elza.
Rainha Elza Soares!
Grande, enorme brasileira.
React to O Rappa - "Reza vela" or
O Rappa - "O que sobrou do Céu" or O Rappa "minha alma".
Sensacional!
Precisamos vencer o racismo, a desigualdade e a opressão. Uma das maiores artistas da história! Incansável Elza Soares!
Elza tinha 71 anos quando gravou essa música!
Maravilhosa!
Só?? Achei que tinha mais.
Rest in POWER, Elza! Great reaction, my man. You seem to understand brazilian music more than some brazilians. Excellent!
Salve Elza!
Elza across diferents diferents generations... we love her
Elza legendary
Thanks for honoring Elza Soares life, dude! She is a godess!
this song was very well received by us Brazilians. who were homesick or didn't know elza soares' work. she didn't ask us to hear the song, we begged her not to stop singing. in brazil it doesn't matter what skin color to be discriminated against and treated like trash in brazil you don't need small injustices for blacks to break everything, in brazil injustice is part of everyday life if the brazilian went out breaking everything there is no use, the government puts the police to chase with tear gas bombs dogs and shots, the only revenge of some wronged is to take weapons to oppress and steal other poor and rich who discover that money doesn't buy happiness. the dumb and lazy rich sell everything at a bargain price to feel rich in a country of miserable people to support the luxuries and waste of rich countries, including their country. you can be sure that black americans go through is nothing compared to what we brazilians go through
Rest in Power Elza, a voz do milênio apenas
Eterna. Obrigada pelo conteúdo.
Elza soares era maravilhosa grande cantora e compositora.
May your star shine forever in the sky, rest in peace our legend Elza Soares.
This song was actually written and originally recorded by the band 'Farofa Carioca', which Seu Jorge was the vocalist for, on their 1998 debut album.
Marcelo Yuka e Seu jorge*
Thanks for showing so much respect. Elza was the greatest female artist of Brazil. A great singer that started her carreer in 1950. More than f**king seventy years in activity. In the week she died, a live show of her was recorded to be released in the future. After all this time, and still releasing live records, do you believe that? One of her most famous songs is named "let me sing untill the end" ("me deixe cantar até o fim", in portuguese). Her will was made. Absolutely legendary!
Sorry for the english mistakes. Greetings fron Brazil!
Elza was such an important part of the afro-latino music history, she rest in power with the ancestors now✊🏿🖤
Elza is a legend!! This song is one of the most important in Brazil's history and still very current
Epic album. Love the remixes, too. These songs were written for her. Perfect match.
Elza sempre será eterna dentro de nossos corações.
In Brazil Elza Soares is like a Black Queen, she's an inspiration for all
RIP Elza! ❤️
Thanks for this reaction man, Elza is the foundations of our music.
Such a great song. Here in Portugal it was a big hit. Elza, Queen 👑
Reaja a música "A mulher do fim do mundo# 🙏⚘
It's amazing to see you reacting to music so familiar to me as Brazilian.
Viva Elza.
So glad to see my translation here, thank for react to Elza Soares' song.
Man... Elza was a goddess of our culture. Maximum respect!
