We've been on it twice. I prefer the older small ships; never crowded, no loud music, do brawls going viral on social media, etc. And I don't think HAL has ever had anybody smash a cocktail glass and stab another passenger in the face...
Programe dec 3 I noticed had a lots of wet floor spaces. I wonder if that’s due to waves splashing into the sides of the ship. I don’t like that. lol. In a real storm then that deck may get swamped with water ! One more thing I observed, you walking right into the anchor room with no staffing in there ….. hummmm that isn’t safe to me …… in the sense that if a regular fellow can gets into those confinement like that with a camera ….. who can’t tell that someone else might do the same but with mischievous intentions ??? I would expect that area to be off limits to the general public.
The anchor room is off definitely off limits. The crewmen who were in the anchor room allowed me to stand at the door and film, but I was not allowed to enter the room. If you are interested in the various mechanical systems, check out my detailed engine room tour onboard Nieuw Statendam which will be released later this month. Thank you for watching and taking time to comment!
I'm not sure, maybe crew areas? In the past they had a room in that area of the ship with desktop computers where they hosted digital workshops for guests.
Aft-facing balcony cabins are great but they sell out quickly. Tamarind Bar is nice and never appeared crowded. The lectures in the main theater are interesting, they often discuss cultural or history topics relevant to the geographic region of the cruise. String quartet concerts are good, same with the piano bar. Enjoy your cruise!
We have been on 31 cruises. This was the worse ship we have ever been on.Holland seems to have a bad time with maintenance on their ships.I really not a whiner,Ive got pictures.
All the Holland America ships I've seen have been very well maintained. Nieuw Amsterdam just turned 14 years old yesterday but she is a timeless classic.
It looks nice, but it also looks old. it has a depressing yellowish look inside. and the carpet looks old, the furnitures too basic. I appreciate the enrichment culture and the demographic they attract, but they should replace some of the carpets and make some of the halls inside little more lively and modern. I have never been unperson, planing to be soon.
This video is from March 2023, apparently the ship was refurbished in December so there may be improvements. Thank you for watching! I also have a video showing the navigation bridge on Nieuw Amsterdam if that interests you.
Wow! That ocean is loud 😯
The propellers seem to make most of the noise at the back of the ship
we are on in May, this was the ship of our first ever cruise, we've been on a few cruises since, just looking forward to getting away

I absolutely love your video camera. It make the water look so amazing.
Thank you, I'm happy that you enjoyed the video 🙂

There are many unknown areas, specifically on the second and third floors, next to the main dining room. What is inside these places?

Can’t wait
You'll have a great time, everyone says the Alaska trips are spectacular
Can't wait just a few more weeks. Any tips for this ship?

15 years old and is showing its age. When were you onboard?
It looks like she was recently refurbished.
