Sammer’s kingdom is probably one of the saddest thing in super paper Mario, dare I say any Mario game ever. It’s so unsettling that none of them appear in the underwhere or overthere. They don’t even get an afterlife. That just cease to exist.
I think it depends on what you think happened to them. Seeing how the Heroes go to the Underwhere a little bit L-ater, you could interpret none of them being in either realm as Jaydes already being done with judging them. They could all already be turned into her people or Nimbis, and then they walked amongst the dead for a while until they were sent back by Jaydes. She did send M&L back because they weren’t supposed to die yet, who’s to say the Sammer Guys couldn’t have been sent back the same way? They could’ve been in an SPM Limbo too. Seeing how Limbo is the realm between life and death, they could just be there. The Void is a very odd entity when you think about it, and one could say it rejected keeping Luigi there in its blank state and sent him to the Underwhere because he’s The Man In Green. Because none of the Sammer Guys have a prophetic role like Luigi, they were kept there just because the Void was doing its job by making everything a blank slate. Sorry for this rant like comment, hopefully this lifts your spirits on it not being that sad… Even though you said this 7 months ago-
I guess I’m a chad. It was brutal, but I did it. Not everyone is made equal, not in terms of societal interpretations but in terms of willpower. Some are more quick to make an excuse than a commitment. But we live in a world where if you don’t strive to be the very best, someone will come along and take your place. Today, we’ve scaled greater heights, and I gotta say, the view’s pretty great up here. King Sammer, I beat your challenge. Now, add to my card collection.
I like how this song is sung from the persepective of the Sammer Guys and how despite the all consuming darkness they all still hold their ground as long as posssible. And as the song continues they see how their situation is hopeless and that are their last hope. It really puts into persepective how helpless the Sammer Guys must have felt when confronted with their end. All in all I really love this song and you all did an incredible job with the lyrics, performance and art on this one!
This theme resonates with people, and really the whole chapter does as well. We're also treated to "Champion of Destruction", "I'm Not Nice", and "Brobot L-Type" in quick succession. Talking about where a game's tension peaks it's this part. Our battle will be legendary Sammer Guys!
@@bluepikminboi It's not as unsettling as River Twygz pool, but it's close. There's not a lot in the theme itself I can latch onto, so I pair it with the chilling vibe of the empty level.
And here I thought I was the only one who remembered or liked this song I was weirdly obsessed with sammer’s kingdom specifically as a kid lmao Hell yeah
Their idea for making sure they only gave the Pure Heart to the Hero was to have them defeat all 100 Sammer Guys. I love that after Count Bleck showed up and basically confirmed that Mario and co were the heroes, everyone stood down.
I love how you potrayed samurais from the chapter 6; brave warriors that are still willing to stand on their own, even though their world is at the brink of death.
The tragic thing about this is that while the Sammerguys we saw in Chapter 6 during the main plot did remain mostly strong, there were some that inevitably let despair get to them. We see one of them run away in absolute terror in the game.
This part of the game really puts the story in perspective. In so many save the world stories, you really don't care because you don't care about the world and know the heroes are going to win, but here we have an entire world erased in front of you. You get to see first hand what will happen if you fail. The way the Sammer Guys are depicted in this song, stubbornly refusing to give up despite being faced with overwhelming doom, reminds me a lot of "The Band Plays On" from Titanic, just an acceptance of death without falling into despair. So yeah, good song.
My favorite thing about this level is that it really shows you how high the stakes are in this game. So, SO many villains always talk about how they’re going to take over the world, but they’re often stopped by the heroes before they cause too much harm. But when the void destroyed Sammer’s Kingdom, it really puts Count Bleck’s plan into perspective great song
Definately one of the strongest examples of "Show, Don't Tell". The fact that you actually go through the destroyed Sammer's Kingdom while "World of Nothing" plays in the background helps cement it as one of the darkest moments in the Mario franchise.
Seeing first-hand the consequences of being too late is already uncommon in video games, much less a Mario game, and going back to Sammer's Kingdom after its been destroyed was a chilling moment that always stuck with me. It definitely marked a huge tonal shift in the game and series. Glad you liked the song!😊
This level gave me some existential Dread. The adventure from then on made me feel a bit hopeless but filled with rage, so I stomped, burned and hammered every enemy from then on.
And that is exactly what got them killed. Because the Sammer Guy’s and their king refused to realize the gravity of the situation and couldn’t swallow their pride and just make it easy for Mario.
Thank you for this. Sammer Kingdom's theme plays for only a short time, but it's one of my favorites. World 6 gets a lot of flak for being *another* 100-man fight in a game with not 1, but TWO Pits of 100 Trials - which is a shame, because someone put a lot of care into writing all the individual texts for each and every one of them (not just the battle commentary but Tippi's scan text as well).
Man on the Internet is going to make Super Paper Mario the next Chrono Trigger Musical at this point 😂 But in all seriousness I LOVE this song it's a shame this song got little time in the main story and you did an amazing job covering it
Super Paper Mario has been the favorite game of my sister and I for many many years now. We were both very hyped for the Musical Bytes release. This is one of her favorite songs in the whole game. And its been growing on me for awhile now with a remix she showed me. So imagine my shock when I stumble across this out of nowhere, in the heart of the song climbing the latter of favorites. We both LOVE this rendition and shed a few tears at the beauty of it. Thank you MOTI for bringing more attention to this hidden gem of the Mario franchise!!!
This theme was stuck in my head for 10 years and I NEVER remembered what it was until like a year or two ago when I decided to play SPM again and oh boy the wave of nostalgia hit
Yooo, I remember when I was younger I would listen to this song on loop and create my own lyrics for it as I imagined a Sammer guy travelling across fields of grain and mountainous paths. So surreal to see such a big-name take on lyrics, love the art too.
Another song gets the upgrade from songtober. Now if we can get that Dimentio charming Magician to get the full Dimentio trilogy done we'd be golden. Also, I'd like to remind you that this awesome song is played right before we see this entire world get erased from existance with all the people still in it. In a MARIO GAME.
Such a bop in the og and the lyrics just accentuate the determination of these people whose world is about to fall to not let that happen, or if it does at least they held their heads high and didn’t fear

The Sammer guys are one of the most underrated people of all of Mario in my opinion since there is barely any gifs on them which I see as a major problem. I’m glad they get recognition like this from time to time
Sammer Kingdom is kinda funny how it goes from a boss rush to despair as everything and everyone is wiped off the face of the earth. Oh yeah, then its Mr. L And Brobot Time!!!!

Ah yes, "Super Paper Mario", my favorite TH-cam channel that makes songs. They just released a new song about the underrated game "Man on the Internet".
What's hilarious is that the Black Hole (Bleck Hole?) really makes this level good. I mean, imagine if you actually had to do 100 very similar, repetitive fights in a row, and that was the entire stage. It'd be awful, probably be the worst stage in the entire game. The fact that it got consumed by the void not only provided good narrative stakes, but also saved us a huge headache that, now, is only an optional grind for people who really care about getting catch cards.
I love how this was released not long after I realized this song was one of my faves on the SPM soundtrack. I keep coming back here because I need to hear it literally every day, it's that good! Another one hit out of the park MOTI!
All in favor of a Super Paper Mario musical? I mean, they already have the byte package, "Charming Magician", and "Sammer's Kingdom"! Just keep going with it!
I think I got chills listening to this! How is it that Alex and the rest of the chorus were able to create such an awesome lyrical version of this Super Paper Mario music?
I gotta love the games that start out wholesome with dark undertones that slowly devolve into darker storytelling and wholesome undertones. This game for example. It’s a classic save Peach and the universe! Now in 2D AND 3D! But throughout the game you learn about Count Bleck’s relationship with Tippi. The Sammer Kingdom’s utter destruction, traveling through the game’s Heaven and Hell, and Dementio’s betrayal. The game ends with Bleck and Tippi sacrificing themselves to save everyone and everything, which is heartbreaking. They just reunited, and now they both have to die. I’m glad that Nintendo has continued this kind of storytelling throughout the Paper Mario Series, because it’s honestly great writing and heart wrenching. Great work on the lyrics, showing the dire situation. And the art, first showing a goofy army, and then panning to the right, showing them standing against the void, no hope of winning, yet standing strong.
"Some men dance on dance floors... Some men dance in jubilant celebration... And some men dance on the heads of turtles... I AM THAT MAN. I am... Dances on Turtles. Today, it is you who are the turtle!" -Dances on Turtles, Guardian of the 31st Gate.
Now that I think about it, the Sammer Kingdom's pretty underrated since instead of us having 4 Chapters to explore their world like with the other worlds, they all die after the first Chapter of their world and only come back in the post-game. And also, I realized that their reason for fighting you might be that they just want to do something. Something to take their minds off of their impeding doom and not be doing nothing while drowning in despair at the thought of their deaths. I mean I know it's actually because Mimi disguised as King Sammer asked them to do so in order to slow Mario and Co. down, but I don't think that it prevents my explaination as to why they do it from being true as well. I feel like the destruction of this world is one of the first big surprising plot twists of this game. I mean Mr. L came before that and is a pretty surprising reveal, but the thought that all the people of this kingdom died is very impactful. Especially since it's a Mario game and that, at first, we all expected a linear storyline where we enter a world and get its Pure Heart 7 times, and then we just go and defeat Count Bleck as the final boss. Now we know it's so much more than that.
I was so happy to see MOTI made another Super Paper Mario song. I just recently finished the game after all these years (even though I’ve been listening to the SPM music bytes for a while now 😅), and after finishing it for myself oh my God. It’s easily become one of my favorite games and as of right now it has one of my favorite stories in any game ever. And it just makes me so sad that not many people talk about this game, especially since I would absolutely love to see the characters (especially its villains) to return to the mainstream in some way soon. But yeah, it’s a great game (although I personally prefer the gameplay of the original 2 games a tiny bit more than Super, the story and characters just blows it out of the water for me) and I really wish more people would see how great it is and give it the love it deserves
This was unexpected, but I'll take it, as this is one of my favourite videogame songs of all time and I feel it doesn't get anywhere near the attention it deserves.
Sammer’s kingdom is probably one of the saddest thing in super paper Mario, dare I say any Mario game ever. It’s so unsettling that none of them appear in the underwhere or overthere. They don’t even get an afterlife. That just cease to exist.

Well, they reappear along with their world after you beat the game, so they all end up okay.
One of the saddest things in any Mario game, period.
Gone reduced to atoms to be destroyed.
True chads went back to properly do their challenge in the postgame to prove that you really did deserve their pure heart
And got rewarded with cards 💀
I just finished the game, that's been in the back of my mind
I tried but unfortunately I never got a chance to finish because my family and I moved and the game somehow got lost.

Lyrics
Rising to the skies
Sammers eternal beacon
Hearts filled with pride
A spirit never weakened
And above
While that ominous cloud grows ever darker
Our hope shines farther
Light up the night
With our warriors of virtue
Like stars in the night sky
Champions whose glory burns bright and
Despair we will defy
Sammer guys
Rise and show the world your might
And unite in this fight for our valor shall never die
But If it all should end
This lands legacy will never be forgotten
Our kingdom's honor we defend
We'll meet the world's demise
Standing with our heads held High
Ruin from the skies
Worlds collapse all around us
Endless destruction will soon surround us
Even still,
In the face of an everlooming countdown
We must stand our ground
Refuse to break down
For if we don't stay brave
All will fall into chaos
If we lack a will
Then there's no hope to save us
Be the strength for our land
On which our whole world depends
And defend to the end for
We'll be the light in the dark
If we're to make It through
We must not allow our hearts to be consumed
Hold on as long as it takes
(Don't let it be in vain)
Stay strong fight on and long live sammer kingdoms reign!
Tell me if I got anything wrong
Line 2: *Sammer's* *eternal* beacon
Line 11: Champions whose glory *burns* bright and

This is officially one of my new top ten favorite tracks you rock for this
The Sammer Guy's theme is probably one of my favorites in the entire SPM game.
Maybe someday a Charming Magician, maybe.
I love this song. Sammer’s Kingdom is one of my favorites.
I loved this part so much, I mean this game is all fantastic but this was definitely one of my favorite tracks
i’ve always loved your spm musical bytes and this is amazing!! :D
This was so good
That was beautiful! And another SPM video from MOTI was very surprising
the last super paper mario vid was 2 years ago, on songtober. I'm glad super paper Mario is coming back

Charge brothers! We shall defend the kingdom with this one!
Reminder that all of the Sammer Guys are King Sammer's kids.
Just read the wiki awhile ago, your 100% right!
Who did he f-
It was the first king sammer. The current one in the game is King sammer IV
I loved this from the very beginning from the vocals alone! (Lyrics were great, too!)
I didn’t even know this was a Songtober song. Regardless, was not expecting more Super Paper Mario songs!
Yooo super paper mario is back
I never knew how much I needed this in my life
This was unexpected, but I'll take it, as this is one of my favourite videogame songs of all time and I feel it doesn't get anywhere near the attention it deserves.
