  • Vukašin Milićević is a priest in the Serbian Orthodox Church in Bežanijska Kosa, a part of Belgrade, and on July 7, he explained Orthodox theology to a group of protestant students from North Carolina. The group of 20 students came to Serbia to learn more about Orthodox faith and tradition and how Protestants and Orthodox can have a better understanding of each other.

Only Jesus can save us from sin! He gave himself on the cross to unite us with God for the remission of sins!
Icons are showing respect and love for our saints! God is pantogratoros meaning the father is everywhere and universal! Greek! God bless the Serbian, Russian, Armenian, Greek and all the Orthodox churches! People wake up and return to the original Orthodox church! The truth will save your soul! Nice interview. The priest is very humble and did his best to communicate in English some profound events and beliefs of the Orthodox faith. I would add that the use of incense that has been the tradition since the Old Testament and Malachi explains God says the gentiles will burn incense to worship and in glory to Him (which is what happened when the Christian Church was established), was as the priest said, but it also represents our prayers floating up to heaven.

I hope the students understand the Priest is simplifying his explanations for their benefit. To ask what is a saint is indicates one’s entire understanding of orthodoxy and christianity is way off. The priest’s answer was far too simple. Americans do not understand the reason the church is so elaborate is because it is not just an assembly hall. It is a temple where the real Body and Blood exists and where sanctity and holiness exist. The priest by way of his ordination calls down holiness and creates sanctity. This is why catholic and orthodox churches are ornate.

Things are serious. Coming from afterlife a woman was kept naked because she did not give clothes from the poor and a man was kept hungry because he did not give food for the poor. The man was given food when his relatives donated food to the poor in his name as orthodox tradition requires. KIf you know somebody that died without giving to the poor you can donate in his name.

    @Gissie D,
True, but in Old Testament you can find the reason why God's people were not allowed to depict images of any kind (and also the reason why we are allowed to do so now):
"Then the Lord spoke to you out of the fire. You heard the sound of words but saw no form; there was only a voice.
He declared to you his covenant, which he charged you to observe, that is, the ten commandments; and he wrote them on two stone tablets.
And the Lord charged me at that time to teach you statutes and ordinances for you to observe in the land that you are about to cross into and occupy.
Since you saw no form when the Lord spoke to you at Horeb out of the fire, take care and watch yourselves closely,
so that you do not act corruptly by making an idol for yourselves, in the form of any figure"
    (Deut. 4, 12-16)
As you can see, the reason for prohibition of depicting any figure is that they did not see anything during receiving the Commandments (neither before, nor after) - being unable of seeing anything (only hearing the God's voice), they are unable of depicting anything.
However, in New Testament, by the fact of Christ's birth, people became able of seeing and depicting Him. Therefore, the holy icons are testimony of Christ's incarnation = of God Who becomes Man, thus becoming visible, touchable and depictable. That is the reason why the icons are, not only allowed, but also venerated in Orthodox Church.

    • @bratic80
      @bratic80 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

so, to justify why images of God were banned before, in O.T. you are quoting The Old Testament, BUT to justify the icons from the time of Christ to now, you use your own philosophy.
How about these verses, directly from Christ:
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them, but to fulfill them. For I tell you truly, until heaven and earth pass away, not a single jot, not a stroke of a pen, will disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. So then, WHOEVER BREAKS one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do likewise will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches them will be called great in the kingdom of heaven.…" (Matthew5:17-20).

Veneration is not only an expression of worship to God but also of honor to other men. This is an ancient practice that you may see in both the Old and the New Testament. Orthodox is mostly Roman , Ottoman and Turkish Culture . Bible is written in Anatolia , so it is mix of Arab culture from Throat and Roman Culture from Anatolia , the Orthodox one must be the root Bible as it is totally includes Anatolian Roman and Ottoman culture , as Orthodox style chanting of music called "Nihavend " has been created in Ottoman's Sultan Fatih time (It is de crease , fates and then in crease to happy end as it express the relive ! , Nihavend's word meaning is Huge Door , and there is a City in Iran with this name ) and Sultan Fatih was also the saver of Orthodoxy as when he conquered Constantinapol and made it Istanbul , he learned that Catholic Church , short time ago , shot down the Orthodox Church and got all it's followers to itself , than Sultan Fatih signed a new Patriarch to Orthodoxy Church and gave it power much more than it had in Byzantine Times , Orthodox church became a Divan member of Ottoman with the Wezir statue , which was the highest position some one can have after Sultan , so all Orthodox Priests started to wear Sultan or Ottoman Soldiers "Yeni Cheri " like head wears as they were the Church of a strong Empire and has a highest position in it , Sultan was even stricter the population of muslims in Istanbul Ottoman started to be sheria muslim after Yavuz Selim but the Power of Orthodox chores lasted to it's last years . There was humors about Sultan Fatih was a Christian , but Fatih was attending both Masque and Church so no one can know the truth . According to Turkish historians Turks were already living an Orthodoxy Islam as Baptize was being performed at homes under the name "Kırklama " , Easter was celebrating under the name of Çiğdem Aşı with the same time and tradition like Christians do painting eggs with onions and visiting neighbors with yellow crocus and eggs in chants . A pan full of wheat , candles on it having an half glasses of water at the center was put in front of the muslim prayer , an incense was fired in front of the ceremony house , no need to mention about our Tree belief , all these Orthodox traditions are performed by Turks from Central Asia to Balkans through Anatolia

Transubstantiation is a Heresy of the Orthodox Church no Saints of the 14C or 15th C profess such belief without repenting of this false doctrine. Saints are only in the Orthodox Church as you must be Baptized and Chrismated an Orthodox Christian to be sanctified, and active living member of Christ Body and partake of his Body and Blood and be a member of the only Church of Christ the Orthodox Church. Sainthood is the indwelling of the Holy Spirit and divinization by Lord mercy where the noetic faculty is filled with the Holy Spirit and in Communion with Lord. Saints are not canonized they are Glorified and Revealed by our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has having purified illumined and divinized by our Triune God. Parable about goats and sheeps in Matthew 25 MAtthew 25:40 “The King will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
Whatever you give to a homeless man you give it to Jesus and Jesus gives it to you in afterliofe at least 100 times over so giving to a mhomeless man you build your treasure in Heaven. You need in Heaven clothing, food, drinks, and a house.

The Church that gates of Hell will not overcome is Russian Orthodox Church. See the Legend of the White Cowl when an angel come saying that Russia is the Third Rome and that it will be like that until the end. Yearly miracles that show Eastern orthodox Church is the true Church. . 1.Holy Light Every year Holy light Descends at Jerusalem on the place Jesus resurected on Easter Day Jesus resurected. 2. Jordan river moving backward On the place of Jesus baptism, on the day of Jesus baptism Jordan river reverses its flow when Orthodox do their service.3. The cloud on Mount Tabor comes yearly on the day of Transfiguration on the place of transfiguration. So closer to the truth to departing are like that: Russian Orthodox Church will keep the truth until the end, then Eastern orthodox Church then Roman Catholic Church then Protestant revolt. Because Russian Orthodox Church keeps the truth, any conflict between Russian Orthodox Church and any denomination, Russian Orthodox Church is right.,

I don’t believe in a god whose salvation is a damn game of being this way or that. If I forget one sin I burn? Garbage. That’s not what I believe in. Prove it. Convince me.

That's not what we believe but keep strawmanning us if you want.
Judging from this comment, what I got is that you've already closed yourself off to anyone changing your mind, therefore it would be a waste of time to try to "convince" you.

There Is Only One Father, and we should not call anyone else on this earth "father". End of.

"Even if you had ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel." (1 Corinthians 4:15 )
So, there is more than one father.

1Kоринћанима4:15 Jer ako imate i trista učitelja u Hristu, ali nemate mnogo otaca. Jer vas ja u Hristu Isusu rodih jevanđeljem.
So, NO, there you have it, Father IS Only One Бориславе.

You miscalculated again. One Heavenly Father + one spiritual father (apostle Paul, according to 1 Corinthians 4:15) = two fathers, at least.

you are trying to take away and add from The Word again, we know what The Word promise for that is, my friend.
Read The Word in our Serbian (if you're able) and refer to that verse again and put it into context in which it is used.
It is Paul that also says to Ephesians Chapter 4:6, do you think he is the confused one or you.

If you put it in right context, you'll see that Christ talks about Heavenly Father, and apostle Paul talks about himself as of one who brought Gospel to Corinthians. So, there are TWO DIFFERENT KINDS of fatherhood. Therefore, there are more than one father - One of them (One and Only!) is Heavenly Father, while the others are just spiritual fathers, and there can be a plenty of them. Actually, every single apostle was spiritual father, as well as every bishop and priest after them.
