Paola has spent time in the RGV (deep South TX) and every county flipped to Republican! It’s not good! I supported Michelle Vallejo, donated to her campaign on a monthly basis and asked her to come to Alton, her home town and she could not be bothered! I am older than her and know the community, people don’t vote! She completely ignored the town she is from. She is a graduate of Columbia University. How many graduates from Columbia University live in the Valley?!?! Not many! And having left the Valley when I was 17, it is culture shock every time I came home. The last names are completely foreign, they are not Garza, Garcia, Rodriguez, etc. The people living in the RGV are no longer just from Mexico and Latinos from other countries are posing a real threat which is why they want people deported.
Interesting that she said she felt more Mexican in Miami. Aren’t there a lot of Cubans there? I suppose that is because your Mexican father lives in Miami and Cuban Mother in Spain. Can’t be easy figuring out your identity.
As the children of white people eschewed the solid middle class jobs their Parents had, exchanging that for College Degrees and leaving the rural and semi-rural areas for the big cities the children of Hispanic Immigrants took those jobs. That being the gateway to them fulfilling their American Dream. And particularly with Mexican-Americans, a very large number of their families became legal in the 80s farm worker amnesty and now those children are in their 30s and 40s. Far removed from their immigrant experience. Like the German, Irish, Italians etc., before them, Hispanics now find themselves on the “on-deck circle” to whiteness. Because “whiteness” in the USA is about more than skin color. WASP begin on top of that “whiteness” pyramid.
Latino's supported Trump strongly but they must've thought he was just talking. January 20th will be the beginning of a sad period in latino history. You voted for him so I'm popping popcorn to watch the show
Allow me to correct you Mrs Paola and company at the panel. Latino is wrong, misleading and means nothing. Please refer to this community at least those of us from traditional background as Hispanic because that is who we are, indeed.
Paola Ramos is a pseudo-intellectual. In the first place there is no such things as Latinos. The only Latinos were the Romans. None of these people can speak Latin, they couldn't tell you what a Latin word is. Most are of African, Spanish, Indigenous descent, and a mixtures of these peoples. Cubans are mostly white, of Spanish and Jewish descent. Most have always voted Republican. The Spanish right wing has many connections to them. Puerto Ricans have voted mostly Democrat. Mexicans who are the largest minority group in the USA usually don't vote. Miami is the capital of ring wing dictators and politicians from South America, including narcotic cartels. People voted for Trump because they are fed up with the Genocide that Biden and Kamala support. They got fed up with the high prices. They had no choice but to vote for Trump, who else was there to vote for? This isn't a democracy its a Plutocracy.
@Temachyotl33 Latinos for Trump don't care about the genocide. They care about their $$. Also, white men and women got Trump elected, Latinos were the second contributing force. Most antigenocide Americans voted third party.
There is no such thing as a “Latino Vote.” We don’t think the same just because we all speak Spanish. Our histories and racial makeup are all very different. Even within our countries as in the case of my Mexico there are different realities. There are different waves of migration. This is why In politics it’s a bad idea to lump us. I think Ms Ramos would have done well to not further the narrative that there is such a thing as a “Latino Vote”. It may be good for a catchy book title but it doesn’t make sense. Please move away from this narrative. After the current disastrous elections many people are blaming “Latinos” and white women for trump winning. We need to do away with this false narrative that a “Latino Vote” exists. In any case, I’m glad to see her succeeding. Her work is important though and has much to offer.
In politics everything is numbers it’s a numbers game. Latinos are not a monolithic group and yes we have a diverse voting base, it’s important to know how many voted for or against issues and why? They count the Black vote, the women’s vote etc.. and they all are very diverse groups. So yes you are right about diversity in groups of voters.
@@luperamos7307 I absolutely disagree. Your evidence is anecdotal. I have seen the same types you mention as well. Still, lumping Spanish speakers into one group creates a distorted view of populations that have significant historical differences. Mexicans have less recent experience with caudillos/dictators and the sort than Central Americans for example. The Mexican Revolution was many, many decades ago and the factors that have driven out Salvadorans and Hondurans are very recent. Necessarily, these two groups will vote differently than Mexicans. Mexicans tend to vote on the left as do Puerto Ricans, Salvadorans are more in the middle and Cubans are to the right. I am not extremely well familiar with Salvadoran stats but they are not a group with similar experiences to Mexicans. Not all immigrants are of the same social class either across time. You're using the "cangrejismo" narrative. Not all people think like that. Texas and California are two different worlds. You shouldn't lump Mexicans from these states if you want accurate data. The Mexican population in Texas has two different components. Original Tejanos and recent immigrants. California is mostly made up of recent immigrants. Some people cross the border with the assistance of coyotes and some overstay visas. Two completely different socioeconomic classes. Again, you are talking about realities in our communities and families but it's all anecdotal. @@luperamos7307I received an email with your response to my last message but your last response is no longer on this thread. Did you pull your response? Strange. To answer your question, I am not “Hispanic” I am Latina. No one in Latin America calls themselves “Hispanic”. That term was invented in the USA to lump us all together senselessly. Tejas was less populated than Chihuahua but it was far more populated than California. I know a woman that has a family that goes back 7 generations in Tejas. That’s not false. Not all people have entered without documents. Tejas had an important population before Houston and the us stole Tejas. My heritage is Mexican. Strange you say “I don’t sound Hispanic”. What does that even mean? What does sounding “Hispanic” mean? Again we all have different histories and we will never think the same.
@ California and Texas were populated since Spanish times. Texas had more people. One of Mexico’s greatest heroes was born in Texas. Texas was not unpopulated what gave you that idea?
