I bought the craftsmen yesterday mainly because it matched the old craftsman in my shop. I got it home and when I unboxed it the front left corner was smashed in. The paint was perfect and the packaging was perfect. The only thing I can figure it was damaged in the factory and somehow quality control missed it. I took it back and got the Kobalt.
I saw them on the store and the blue Kobalt built is better ( not the black one ), but the Craftsman has way more compartments and the chest has bigger storing space on the top. The boxes in red look better than the blue ones. This will stay with you forever so I prefer to see the Craftsman logo instead the Kobalt reminding me that I could not afford the Craftsman.
I had that Kobalt box in stainless finish for several years. Held up great. The only thing I disliked was that the drawers didn't fully extend and that made sockets in the back harder to reach. I ended up outgrowing it and sold it for about what this one is marked at. This Kobalt box is far better quality than the new Craftsman stuff.
I`m sorry but your comparison of the two lacked any actual facts besides the marked prices and "this one just feels better". I appreciate your effort though and watched the whole video.
Unfortunately, Craftsman today is not like our Dads/Grandfathers Craftsman quality of back in the day like most products these days. For the weekend warrior mechanic like me, both of these would suffice but for a true 8-5 mechanic, don't feel like these would hold up very long with real life use 50 hours a week.
I have the Craftsman 26" Cart and Chest and the Craftsman 52" Cart and chest. I've had them about 5 years now with complaints on structural integrity. Only complaint I have is the button on the built in power strip malfunctioned on the 52" Chest about 6 months after purchase. Otherwise they seem to be great! The wobble you showed tends to go away as you load them with tools and get the weight in them. (I wonder if the clerk that assembled the display didn't tighten the bolts properly on the castors) Now my boxes do stay stationary and rarely get moved unless I am doing a deep clean in the shop. I was in the same dilemma choosing which way to go between Kobalt and Craftsman but I do have a lot of tools including specialty tools so I wanted more drawers and I knew I wouldn't be moving my boxes around much if at all so I opted for the Craftsman. So far I do not regret my decision. And to be fair, the 52" box was on sale and cost less then the Kobalt they had at the time. Great video nonetheless showing the differences between the 2 and the viewers make their own decision.
I compared both boxes and the fit and finish overall is better on the Kobalt. I really like the opening of the drawers. I’m not a fan of how the drawers are too sticky to open on Craftsman. I know that’s a part of the soft/close design but it doesn’t work for me. If the price was a bit lower, I would get that blue Kobalt.
How can the Kobalt be better built if it can’t match the Craftsman’s strength capabilities? I have that Craftsman tool box and it looks stunning in my garage.
Dude! Those guys who install those boxes at the store don’t care like that. They just hurry up and assemble those things and get’ ‘em out there on the floor! 😂
The drawer slides on the US General boxes are so buttery smooth compared to Craftsman and Kobalt, I’ll forever buy US General. However, I love the design of the top box on these.
I own the black 42" kobalt you showed and I gotit on clearance at lowes for $263 after tax because it was missing the handle on left side..lol but awesome box but does scratch easily
I almost got the 34 from Harbor freight but I think I might wait to see what these bots is going to do thanks for the video definitely will get the kobalt
@@justinsgarage1125 I assume you are asking if anything in particular stands out to me. I hate to be too critical, but comments about the different paint making a box “feel” more solid. The kobalt boxes are identical except for paint. Calling the depth measurement the “width”. Comments on the plastic edge covers on top of the craftsman box. Thoughts just seemed scattered, going back and forth. I agree the kobalt box seems a better value, but $650 vs $800 isn’t a huge difference, and the craftsman does have some differentiating features. That’s all. Don’t take it personal. Just offering my thoughts. You’ll have that in TH-cam comments. I would liked to have seen actual measurement comparisons.
@@jasonostack9319 I don’t take it personal. It comes with the territory. I will agree that it seems scattered. What I do is real, never scripted and there are no puff/fluff videos where I’m trying to put on a show over my opinion and actual content. The video here was done on the fly as I had to swing by lowes to grab a few things and happen to see the boxes lined up. I flap my jaw too much sometimes but it is what it is. You’ll find that on TH-cam too; more smoke and mirrors with words being said that carry no meaning than actual info. You’ll also see some folks that are in a lowes, Home Depot or other hardware stuff everyday or several times a day. I got no time for that. I am by no means a professional content creator. I don’t have an editing team or production crew. I currently run 3 businesses as well as have young children that will always take precedent over my hobby that is youtube. I wish I had the time to set up a studio and sit my team down and plan/ script a video but unfortunately I do not. Maybe someday 🤔 This video was just an opinion based off of putting my hands on the units and my opinion is that the Kobalt seems to be a better built box. You are also allowed to have an opinion. You will see other that agree with me and others that may disagree. Even if they are identical boxes, I feel like craftsman could have put some finishing touches on their boxes to make them appear(and feel) more polished.
@@justinsgarage1125 no worries. Honestly, my commentary probably doesn’t even deserve a reply. Sometimes I get sucked into the trap of commenting and not really thinking about if I’m adding anything to the conversation. You took time out of your day to make a video and upload. What did I do? Made a shit post. Sorry for that. Wish you well in your business. Enjoy your time with the fam.

That Blue kobalt is on sale for $549 right now

Trust me man. Those Craftsman’s are better looking and are actually stronger, 😂. And they look better in your garage.

He was about $150 short from buying the craftsman. Hes writing a letter right now...

Idk man, im still leaning towards the craftsman. Just looks nicer.
Get hands on with them broski
Craftsman is made in the USA! 🇺🇸

Just bought this box. I really wanted a craftsman but the kobalt was so much better

3:21 that’s what she said
The classic smell of those screwdrivers , i just about threw up in my mouth hahahah!
I bought the craftsman combo today!! Maybe Lowe's seen your video 😊 kobalt was like $100 more. I wanted the extra space and weight capacity
I need to take another look at the craftsmen boxes to see if they’ve updated/changed anything….what are you seeing?

This might be the most nonsensical review I’ve ever seen.

The Kobalt is so much better then CrapsMan
These newer kobalt boxes are not as good as the older kobalt boxes from 4/5 years ago
Yeah I feel craftsman has down graded
