    UAD should reserve the physical cores to Console use of the plugins, letting us choose if we want to run them native inside the DAW or use the cores in case the system is not powerful enough. All we need are options.

    I watched several of your videos and decided to buy the DLX sphere last night. I'm a professional musician, so no VO´s over here, but I am excited to try this out and compare it to the Slate I used a lot several years ago. since I moved to real tube mics (67 / 47 clones), but this just looks (and sounds) so great!

      You’re very welcome. I think DSP-aided interfaces will remain essential for real time live recording through plugs for a while. Most people use their UAD plug ins for mixing only so native fits that workflow, but live cutting, especially across multiple inputs, is too much to currently ask of most computers without additional DSP.

    (a) Console is definitely long in the tooth at this point.
    (b) UA needs a small, dedicated USB box just for the Sphere microphone. This box would have two XLR inputs, +48V phantom power, a DSP processor, and a single XLR mic output. It needs to be dual USB/5V powered with something like a CR2032 internal battery to hold the configuration when not in use. This thing would do nothing but run the Sphere plugin, sending mic level output into my existing Apollo with the vintage mic already modeled ahead of the Unison. Other than the +48V on/off there would be no buttons, knobs, or meters, and price it at $99. This would make sense to my brain and I'd buy one tomorrow.

    I have saved all my pennies and I have been trying to justify buying an Apollo (which I can't quite afford) and I discover this! I was excited and thought I could get one of the discounted older ones with the new release happening until I saw that there is no Apollo replacement announced. Any updates available?

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven’t heard anything. I’ve moved on from the Apollo to the new Neumann interface. I just don’t trust UA will get this right and I think we’re really at the point with Native plug ins that investing in another DSP-powered platform feels like buying a rotary phone.

    • @PeterWoolstonMusic

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff thanks for the reply :D My interest in Apollo is definitely driven by Unison preamps and not DSP capability. I don't have external preamps and I'm replacing a 10 year old Focusrite Saffire Liquid 56 for my project studio. The 56 has a basic version of Unison with Liquid selectable preamps. That's why the Apollo was of more interest than an alternative audio interface like an Audient.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm guessing we'll know if there will be a big hardware update if all of a sudden we see UA blowing out the current inventory of Apollo interfaces the same way they did with the L22 Sphere late last year. But there's no way they abandon legacy UAD_2 hardware owners, so any upgrade will be backward compatible.

    • @studiopro
      @studiopro ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff Yep, I think the same about backward compatible prevous gear, but the older equipment from the second hand after the UA general upgrade will be much cheaper i guess/i hope. For me buying sound equipment basically is a long shot.

  • @RickMolloy

    It definitely would be cool. When I was working at msft several years ago - my team put a significant amount of work into programming models and scheduling systems to move work between heterogeneous compute systems - or more simply put, between next generation gpgpu, arm style and highly vectorized processors. Most of those things - except the free moving of work between processors are now here... So yeah that would be super cool and likely now that they are starting to have plugins in both spark and sharc. I strongly suspect they've developed a write once programming environment for these. We could also see them blue the line further between Luna and console...

    Hoping to see more love for Windows users of UA equipment. If UA can get off of SHARC processors then it stands to reason that Luna and UA Console would be supported in next iteration of this hybrid system on Windows 10/11

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff
      @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff  ปีที่แล้ว

      The problem with Windows is all the endless variations of windows systems and CPUs, which is why Luna for Windows will probably wait until they launch a hybrid DSP/Native version of UAD-3. Would be hard to lose the SHARC chip as it is very well suited for real time audio with extremely fast memory access, as they are do what other chips just can’t, believe it or not (Super Harvard Architecture ‘ SHARC’ chips are also used for military weapons guidance) and also the large UAD-2 user base. But I do think they are cooking up something that will evolve the Apollo ecosystem to mitigate these limitations you mentioned. It’s been a long time coming.

    I used my X6 for 5 years. Still like RME routers. More powerful and firendly to windows. X6 still cant do a loopback for Steam. Only 2 AUX and 4 CUE channels.

    • @MarkYoshimotoNemcoff

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I have a few dissatisfaction with ua.
      First, there is no master output.
      Second, only 4 plugins can be loaded per track.
      Third, there are only 4 CUE channels.
      Fourth, there are only two AUX channels.
      Fifth, DSP is very backward.
      Sixth, it is very unfriendly to windows steaming.
      I have written to UAD many times, but no response. When I got the X6 for the first time, the phases of the earphones were all reversed. After writing several letters, they updated the new version.

    Good thoughts here - I’ve been hoping for an update soon to the Apollo hardware. Would be great to see it at NAMM (not that I want to spend any more money right now haha).
    I’ve been really impressed with the Sphere so far and having better console integration would be cool. I’d love it if they did a hybrid setup so I could use CPU from my computer in addition to the DSP. I have an x8P and a twin and I run out of DSP a fair bit. Give us hybrid! (Or more powerful chips if not)

      @@MarkYoshimotoNemcoff I got the Twin X in the audiobook booth, the x4 in the upstairs office / podcast studio (wife also records audiobooks, so we sometimes are working at the same time). Sphere mic as well, but reserve that for music work (I'm too clumsy to leave it out). Company is amazing, although support has really taken a dump in response time. They need to hire more people. The Twin X took a crap, two weeks and no response if they will take it in for service -- I had to order a Solo to cover the gap for audiobooks. Solo is ordered, delivered, and in action before I have a definitive response from support about the Twin X. My only complaint about the company is support response time. Oh, and one of your early videos on setting up for podcasting with the Apollo was super helpful to me. You rock.

Yeah, dude, UA Customer Service has been a greasy dog turd lately, but my understanding is they are well aware and are working to try and hire more qualified CS reps. So many new users during Covid outpacing CS capabilities. I know that doesn’t help you much in the short term, but I feel that UA is trying to get all the broke shit fixed this year.
