What keeps people from serving in the local church and what keeps people from serving the Lord are two different subjects. People can serve in the church and not know Jesus. People can Love and know Jesus without serving in the church. I've attended several churches, some for many years, some on staff. Recently some churches became political and still deliver the message of Jesus. Most churches end up with just a few always helping. People burnout no matter how much they love Jesus honestly. I can disciple someone in a grocery store or a friend on our morning walk. Large or small churches are about the same. Large ones delight with their great band. I've challenged worship leaders play their music behind a curtain and see how many people worship. None have taken the challenge. Many of the ministries grow tremendously without leading people to Jesus. Churches itself have become a business with bills and daily staff. Food ministries are the biggest. Eventually Jesus stopped feeding people because they came only for the free food. People today stop giving when the economy is poor. Myself, I give and serve and attend as the Holy Spirit leads knowing Satan will always suggest something different.

I was going to leave a similar comment and see you wrote it quite well and so I'm going to concur with you. Especially, giving/serving/attending as led by the Holy Spirit.

I go to a small church on Sundays and there is a part of me that loves my church. My pastor was the one who baptized me and the church group in general aren't bad people that I know. But my pastor has talked about how he has degrees with Bible studies and my church violates so much stuff in the Bible. a) I don't think many of them honor the commandment to keep the Sabbath (on Saturday) and our church services are on Sunday (which goes back to the Roman Catholic church changing the worship day originally from Saturday to Sunday to deceive us as Satan loves to do and it's been this way for 2000 years). There were several Saturdays recently that my church was doing work on Saturday and even if it was for good intention, unless you absolutely have to work (healthcare, fire department, police, etc), The Lord commands us to rest on the Sabbath. "Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it." (Exodus 20: 8-11) b) I also feel like the sermons are a little watered down. There was a service not too long ago and my pastor touched on Judges and he talked about Jephthah and instead of telling us that Jephthah sacrificed his daughter to the Lord, he said "well, you'll just have to read the rest yourself" Like, I get the Bible can be rated R sometimes but still, if he is to be a shepherd, he should be teaching the word exactly as it was written/told. c) My church celebrates Christmas with a tree and celebrates it as Jesus' birthday and the Bible doesn't tell when Jesus was born. In the Old Testament, The Lord wanted his people to be a special people and not follow the ways of the Gentile neighbors. Christmas Day has been a pagan holiday since the times of the Old Testament. "Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh unto you, O house of Israel: Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them. For the customs of the people are vain: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the axe. They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it move not. They are upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also is it in them to do good." (Jeremiah 10:1-5) We should celebrate Jesus every day and not the specific day that The Roman Catholic church chose(the same day they were worshipping their sun god Sol Invictus)
The purpose of being a Christian is to obey the commandments, law and statutes of The Lord God Yahuah. "Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets." (Matthew 22: 35-40) "Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil." (Matthew 5:17) "If ye love me, keep my commandments." (John 14:15) For myself, I personally worry about so many red flags I see with my church that I don't put my full faith in my church and in man over my faith and obedience to The Lord God. "What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?" (James 2:14) "For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also." (James 2:26)

I think another thing that bothers me about going to church in general anymore is I just feel like I'm not learning as much as I would be reading the Bible for myself and watching your Bible studies and a few other youtubers who don't sugar coat things going on in the world but tell it like it is. I honestly won't be surprised if in the future, I start to try to teach the word and apply it to modern day stuff as well as teach the history of the Old Testament just because I feel like tons of modern day churches, especially in America, only want to send a feel good go home message and make church only entertainment instead of treating it more of a life or death type of thing and teach the history. Because being saved by Jesus really is life or death at the end of our lives.

If Saturday worship is your focus, if Saturday worship is a thorn in your side then , perhaps, you are not a Christian. After Christ was crucified, died as the final Sacrificial Lamb needed to obtain Salvation, he rose on the third day which was a Sunday. By His sacrifice the Curtain that hid the Holy of Holies from casual view was ripped, by God’s own hand.Jesus told us that the old ways were gone away. All those 613 Levitical Laws were over and what remained were the Ten Commandments. The fact that Jesus walked out of that burial cave on Sunday was not by accident. The Jewish Sabbath is honored by the Jews who rejected Jesus . Good news there are now many Messianic Jews all over the world who follow a mixture of the Old Ways and the New Testament teachings. Maybe you would consider joining them.

One thing that doesn't show on this list. You find out the Church you've contributed to, both financial and volunteering, is bent. You see the 'offerings' they collect isn't all going to where 'they' say it is. And like the master 'used car salesman' that more and more pastors are, they blame the 'sin' in your life as to why you didn't receive the Blessings you expected. But that you should keep 'giving' and praying. Virtually All the TBN pastors thru the years plus pastors like Brodersen, Morris, Evans, Furtric, Dollar, Meyer just to name a few off the top of my head. Now, I have not stopped 'giving' as Jesus is Lord; my Faith has not waivered but my unwillingness to give monies to pastors I don't trust anymore has strengthened. I don't feel like I'm defying Jesus by not giving my time and 'his' money to 'used car salesmen' I don't trust.

churches should have quarterly meetings iwth the congregation showing where/how the tithe money is being allocated. Hold the leaders accountable. I don't know the nammes of the people you mentioned. I've heard of TBN, but i'm not familiar with it. (I'll look it up). The church isn't the babel building, but the followers of Christ and our lives should look like the apostles. Fellowshiping with fellow believers left the jewish temple to meet in people's homes.
I understand the lack of trust from the greed of the church leaders.

@@BookZealots The History of Trinity Broadcasting Network TBN will both astound you and appall you. The monies paul and jan crouch now Matt and laurie crouch is incredible. And all the 'used car salesman' that have passed thru there is a 'who's who' list of pastors that have fallen away. The started off using the name Jesus but then fallen away after the money came in.

@@Dbusdriver71 Thank you. I'll research them. I'm sure I've come across a video or two but the names are not familiar. So they go sucked into the greed of money? And what are their views on salvation?

@@BookZealots They started off preaching and teaching about Jesus and used the Scriptures that most others do. But after a time, They start to expand as their congregations grew in size. Then, more offerings came in and then their priorities shift away. So many started off on TBN but then go online with their own websites so they don't have to share offerings with TBN which charges an obscene amount of money to broadcast on their station. Then they tend to send out 'missionaries' but its really to advertise their 'chruch'. As more people attend they are drawn in with more selected scripture that is used to illicit an effect. People seeking Faith are the most common. Then, more often than not, offerings and finances are the common denominator of their sermons. The Holy Spirit is the one that supernaturally puts it in your Heart to give. But when the pastors ask for offerings, this is a very dangerous sign. When this trend starts, it usually shows their true intentions and what they were from the start. But people are drawn in and its like leaving an abusive spouse. Its very hard to do. The pastors know the scripture to use as they have been deluding themselves for years so they are more like a psychopathic pastor that are filled with self belief and not from the Holy Spirit. So many have also fallen to sexual sin. These two signs are the most common danger signs. Its in your best interest to leave immediately.

@@Dbusdriver71 Your comment made me realize I've driven past one of their headquarters in Cali. I had to look it up to make sure I was remembering correctly. I guess they sold it in 2021, but it's the gaudy location I was thinking. I have looked at their video thumbnails and yikes. I do not watch them and now I'm wondering if I ever have. There are a lot of people on there I do not know, but the ones I do recognize I call secular christians. some might think they're saved, but are they? We know them by their fruits and hopefully the ones who actually strive to live for God get out of the tbn system. It doesn't look good to be associated with that greed.
People are easily fooled, (may God help us to have discernment), because they're not reading or studying God's word. They go to "church" on Sunday and feel good about themselves and then live like the world for the rest of the week. Obviously not all, but sadly most.
The things you mentioned are very prevalent, or so they've been exposed, in black baptist churches. And it is very challenging to find a church that doesn't send that offering plate around and then also ask for tithes. I've left a toxic church. The pastor was narcissistic. I don't know if he was a psychopath, but he left the small church he started to get a job at a bigger church in FL. I had already left so it was no skin off my nose. And he regurgitates, sometimes word for word, even the same jokes, in his sermons. He's not studying or getting messages from the Holy Spirit. Maybe things have changed. I haven't watched in a few years. But I can related to leaving a toxic church. It was the best thing God did for my family.
