Thank you so much for uploading this. Growing up in Milwaukee in the 70's, Brian Winters was my hero as a kid. I'm a huge Winters collector but never had a chance to see any of this footage.
Great footage. The South Carolina - Marquette games in that era were nationally-televised must-see matchups. Notre Dame, Maryland, Houston, Tarkanian's Long Beach State. Tune in for the late Saturday games and you were in for a treat due to the fact media wasn't 24-7 and you learned about these teams as the season went on.
Brian Winters, I loved watching this guy play. The Gamecocks played the game the right way under coach McGuire. Good to see footage from a special time in South Carolina basketball.
Brian Winters was one of the all time greats from NYC. Too bad they didn't have the three back then. he was deadly ! In his junior year Brian teamed with another NYC legend and future Gamecock teammate Kevin Joyce. Joyce and Winters were both HS All Americans, College All Americans and first round NBA draft selections. As a junior Winters and Joyce led Archbishop Molloy to the NYC championship defeating Power Memorial who had Lenny Elmore, Ed Searcy and Jap Trimble. Molloy also had a #1 National ranking in polls. Winters was part of the trade that brought Jabbar to L.A. The Lakers stated they hated to give up Winters but he was a must or the trade would not happen. Winters was called the best shooter he had ever played against by Michael Jordan in an interview. Great player, great man !
A superb person from a fine family. They were my neighbors. Brian is ten years older than me (my sister's age). Brian used to teach us at our basketball clinic every summer when he was home from college.
I remember the jumper at 0:34 like it was yesterday. Knocked off previously undefeated Marquette which made it all the way to the NCAA Championship game that year. Side note: 4 years earlier, Al McGuire had tried very hard to recruit Brian for Marquette.
I was born in Seattle in 1973, where I grew up. Sonics and Blazers fan. Japanese-American. I haven't seen video of Brian Winters dunking! In 1995-96, as head coach of the Grizzlies, in a Sonics at Grizzlies game, Brian Winters got a technical foul. How can a man who looks like Brian Winters, get a technical foul? When I hired Mike Fratello to coach the Cavs in 1993, Brian Winters was STEAMED.

What a great player, and even more importantly, what a superb person !!

What a clean looking court. And that arena's fan viewing angles were ar superior to the current one.
His oldest son Brendan had a great career at Davidson, 2002-2006.

at 2:10 Winters shoots over Canisius?
Smooth.
Stupid slow motion ruined most of this footage, but it was still nice to see.
