i agree: that's Red Barber. You-Tube used to have a similar post about the 1960 Cotton Bowl with Harry Carey. Syracuse fan here. I wish they still had it.
My father was in the Press Box covering the game for the Pasadena Star News. I would attend my first RB a decade later, 1/1/60, whereat Washington broke the almost unbroken string of Big 10 victories 44-8 over Wisconsin [who suffered the only loss of the Big 10 in 1953, to USC 7-0.
#88 for Ohio State - L. Def End "Tom Watson" - lived several years about 3 houses from me in the neighborhood where I grew up. When I was a kid I remember vaguely him talking about the game. Thanks for posting this! Looking at the video awhile, while it is a bit grainy you can certainly appreciate it, these fellows really were quite impressive athletes.
The Gillette Cavalcade of Sports was an NBC production. I'm pretty sure that's the "Ol Redhead Red Barber on play-by-play. Interesting to hear him calling Football.
Gillette had rights on programs on both CBS and NBC. Plus the World Series was on Mutual from 1939 until 1962, when NBC got the radio rights. Red Barber broadcast for Gillette on all three networks until the early 1950's when he was dropped over a dispute over pay.
Close, but no. The last Cal team to make it to the Rose Bowl was the 1958 team for the 1959 game. Pretty sure they lost to Ohio State in that one too. (Edit-Apparently it was #2 ranked Iowa).
Rock and roll wasn't even around in 1950. In the Mood would have worked. I remember pep band in 70s playing Glenn Miller music at basketball games in 70s. Not that I want to criticize Jess. He does a great job.

Great film. That’s an oldie. I was born in August of that year.
Memorable game for @TbdbitlAlumni… ❤️🎺🎵🥁

Thus was a better ending to the season for Wes Fesler than 1950 Snow Bowl loss to Michigan. Woody Hayes was hired in 51.
Show more game footage!
Classic iron man football- no sally throwing game like today
Cal hasn't been in the Rose Bowl since this game.

A very good game. Watch it!
Hang on sloppy was released in 1965
I dont think they started using that song until about the 1980s.
😂😅@markjohnson7488
Ohio State was still using the single wing then.
Awesome!
I'll
It looks like Cal is playing Stanford. I don’t recall ever previously seeing Ohio State with white helmets or red pants, much less both.
Ohio State was wearing their road uniforms.
Hang on Sloopy being played in 1950??
Hang on Sloopy wasn't written until 1964. Whoever put this video together didn't let that fact stop him from including it.

Go Bucks!!!
