I spent my early teen years being sad and being filled with self pity and I regret that so much. It’s sad and may hurt a little to see that this was years ago...especially when you look back and realize how far away, but yet, how close it seems. I remember one particular middle school memory about 4 years ago, when my English teacher gave us an assignment to find a “metaphor” in a song we liked and I chose this one (the line “Getting higher than the Empire State”). He, of course, explained to me that it wasn’t exactly appropriate for school, but all it takes is little things like that to build a memory and funny (now that I think about it) connection on one of your favorite songs growing up.
