I'm definitely in the YO group. And I use it for all my crochet, including amigurumi. I love your Creepy Cat the most. Also like the Mercat. Thanks for your podcasts.
Awesome! Thank you!
I love them all. They all look brilliant. I use both. If I'm tired it's going over. For my plushie keyrings I do under.
Interesting how that works if I’m not thinking it’s over over just out of habit
Oh dddddear it's Piglet!😊 I like eeyore too.
i really enjoy your videos. i watched a bunch while making about 80 mushrooms out of my scrap yarn these past two weeks. Thanks for the inspiration, i have got to try making that little dino!!!
80 mushrooms!! That's a lot!!
I love that elephant!
I always do over/over. I didn't know over/under was a thing. May have to check it out. I love the crazy cat for cuteness and the elephant for huggability. Glad to see you having so much fun with your craft.
If you try it when you pull the yarn through the stitch it’s under and the 2nd is over where you will really see the difference is with a 4 or under yarn.
Always yarn over. Going back to video. New friend here ❤
Hi Friend!🤗
I love your crayons ❤ super cute
Thank You!!
I've done both? Yarn over primarily, but I catch myself doing the yarn under when I'm tired lol. My fav is a toss up between the creepy cat and the elephant. I love them both!
Interesting just the opposite for me Yarn Over when I'm not thinking about what I'm doing.
All your plushies are fabulous! Think my fav is mermaid! Your discussion of under/over is great because I had seen the mention of it and didn’t understand. Now thanks to your sample views and comments - I believe it all depends on your yarn. Seems like #4 being thinner than chunky #6 looks better with under, yet thicker works fine with over! I’ll have to play! Thanks again for all your inspiration. A really nice variation from blankets, throws and everything else! Stay well & safe in Florida’s heat & humidity!
Thanks Joyce, I never really understood it either until I played around with it. On the 4 and under yarns it really does make a huge difference.☺️
It is true I found also a difference between the baby blanket and the regular Bernat blanket. I also found it softer. I love your videos thank you so much for telling us all the pros and cons of the patterns and yarns. I am making a lot of the stuff you did. Thank you
Thank you! 🥰
I love the bee , as I bought that pattern and the firefly
I bought the firefly too I haven't made it yet.
SPARKLE DINOSAUR!!! I love it!
I think i crochet the same as i knit - I put the yarn closest to the fabric. So I think i am under, under. But i like to be different and if that bothers people I am happy. 😂😂😂
Those feltveyes are adorable! Totally worth it for some projects 😊. Oh Creepy Cat is fantastic! And different sized ears works for Frankenstein animals.
Never thought of the ears like that but you are absolutely right!! I think maybe the lady who taught me when I was a kid might of been a knitter too. It always worked perfectly fine for me forever, but I have trained myself to yarn over, now I'm trying to train myself on the toys to do under then over.
@@KnottingHookCrochet Closest to the fabric really balances out the knit stitch so I got into that habit.
I keep adding to my list of animals to try making, but all my nieces and nephews are in their 30s! The creepy ones I can do for my own decor lol!
@@AntisocialAuntie In their 30's one would think Foodie items and creepy.
@@KnottingHookCrochet Hadn't thought of foodie items. Great idea!
I’m about to learn amigurumi but I’ve learned from this video some good info. Thank you so much. I loved them all!
Glad it was helpful!
When I make amigurumi in worsted weight I use the Yarn Under/Yarn Over. I am a pretty loose crocheter so that really helps me tighten up my stitches without putting so much strain on my hands, plus I like the look of the fabric it makes better. The stitches line up straighter, virtually no holes, and I really love the little X's it makes. When I use the plush yarn I use the Yarn Over/Yarn Over because I struggle with that yarn so much the yarn overs are easier for me to do. I really like all the ones you showed, but I will say I love Piglet (so adorable) and the Creepy cat is fantastic!
Thanks Vicki!
Hi Robin! Love all your items, but the Brontosaurus (Apatosaurus) is adorable and awesome for boys but I’m loving that crayon too. I’m an under/under crocheter and have been for over 40 years and I’m not about to change now, lol! This heat has been awful hasn’t it? But heck, at least we don’t get into the 100’s! Going to try that crayon! 🦋❤️🦋❤️
We must’ve had the same teacher I learned under under as well, but I have since changed to over over for regular crochet and under over for the amigurumi. Yes, it is extremely hot and it feels like it’s higher than 100.
I can’t do under-over but I like the look so I actually work inside out with yarn going over. After I get out of the first or second round, I flip it so it’s inside out and go from there. But you can do the entire thing and then flip it, just personal preference
That's an interesting way to do it.
You are really good at those, despite being a self proclaimed beginner. I see it must take a toll on the hands. I almost live in mine. I find that bigger hooks and yarn do it to my hands as well as tight small stuff.
The bigger hooks I can go longer before getting achy
I work a stitch the way I learned which is Yarn over.
I dont worry about yarning under because that would slow me way down and it doesn’t make that much of a difference for me to care❤
Still watching…………
I learned as a kid under under, on youtube I learned over over, now its under over 😂😂I wish someone would make up my mind 😂🤣😂
Yarn under, hands down. There is no right or wrong. They all work and comes down to personal preference. Great question. I love reading everyones answers.
Me too! I am definitely a comment reader. You can learn a lot from the comments!
I go through my stitch and I just pick up my yarn and pull it through. This is how I was taught. So I think I'm a yarn under. Up until I started doing Amigurumi I didn't realize it made a difference. That's why I'm hear, to learn.
Same never realized there was a difference.
I like something quirky. The duck, though i thought it was a baby eagle.
All the toys look great i agree with you on your choices
Over over
Cool, thanks
Would you make a video showing how to do the under-over with a plushie, including the decreases? I love the little free dinosaur.
Ok but I’m no expert 😂I’m still figuring it all out!
My favorite is the elephant!!!
I’m proud of the way the elephant turned out!!😌
Yarn over. I learned when I was 18 and that's one thing I refuse to change.
I learned yarn under, made myself switch to over and now on the plushies I’m back to under!😂
I only use yarn under for yarn weights 4 or less to make sure there aren't any holes. For the bulky yarn I use yarn over because it tends to be fluffy and fills in the holes anyway!
that's interesting, with the bernat blanket I had holes I had to size down my hook.
@@KnottingHookCrochet I usually size down 2 needle sizes from what any yarn recommends when making plushies. Probably why my hands hurt so much! Ha!
Both . On the plushies it’s yarn over and acrylic it’s yarn under
You will probably end up making a whole box of crayons great job on everything.
I might
beautiful work. and yes you are right. baby blanket is softer and easier to work with.. too bad they don't have all the colors like in regular blanket yarn.
Good, so it wasn’t my imagination 😂
Hi Robin my name is IdaMay and I love to crochet I just wanted you to know you are are awesome
Thanks! 😊
I love piglet now to fiqure out how to save patterns
Nice to know other process confusion as well 😂😂😂😂❤😊
Right?!😀😂🤣
Team under -over. With that I solved the holes between stitches.
Same. and the stitch looks so much nicer!
The crayon is my favorite
I like that one too☺️
Over the hook.
I've recently found your channel and I've watched enough to know you've signed up to present your plushies etc. to a craft fair.
Have you ever been to a very large and busy craft fair? ?
If you haven't been to one this year, within the last month or so, you need to take yourself to one to observe what is sold, who's selling things, what are they selling, how are items being displayed, what are the prices for the items being sold, talk to the people who are there both selling and buying.
My mom went to craft fairs at least monthly, if not twice a month. My mom made handcrafted quilts. These sold for lots of money and were displayed so that every one of her quilts could be seen from the front area of her little 8'x8' rented area of space. And she probably had at least 30 quilts.
Some king sized, some queen, all the way down to baby quilts and quilts for little girls to cover their doll babies with.
The displaying of items is one of the most important parts. Then comes pricing.
The less expensive items go in the front to pull people in and their children too.
I have NO IDEA how to display your plushies.
I LOVE ALL YOUR ITEMS you've made. And there must be a proper way to display them, but until you see how other people have and are displaying them I don't know how you'll ever have those answers.
I haven't been to a craft show where people only get a 8'x8' display area in years. My mother passed away about 8 years ago. It's difficult to go to craft shows since she passed.
And I live in Michigan. Florida is a complete different story. Shoot, Florida is craft state central. Everyone does major crafts there.
I hope telling you these things start to help you. I love all your stuff. And if I went to a craft show where you were displaying you fantastic work you've spent hours upon hours on I'd want to see all of it. And some how you want to be pricing your items competitively. I don't see how you can do that without going to a very large busy craft fair right away. So you can prepare yourself better.
I hope your able to read this and consider what I'm trying to tell you.
I wish I could be there. I wish I could help somehow. I'd love to go to a craft fair in Florida, but I live in Michigan. We have large craft fairs but nothing like Florida. Florida is like the craft capital of all states.
I hope this helps. I hope you know that I mean well telling these things to you. God Bless you and I will keep watching your channel.
You have some special items that I will email you about soon for myself and I have other family members who are interested in some things you have made as well.
Thanks for taking the time to help! Great info you’ve provided. I do have plans to visit a fair and be nosy 🧐 plus I have watched a ton of other videos to see their setups. Vertical space seems to be the key. I have a small car so I need to be wise with whatever I decide on. Thanks 😊
Team under/over and I definitely struggled teaching myself.
It was hard to get use too.
I yarn under whenever I am making toys to make sure the stitches are nice and tight so the stuffing doesn't come out. Under/under is what I prefer. not over/under or under/over or over/over.
I think under/under was how I learned and did that on everything. With all my testing of the stitch configurations I think for the toys I like the look of under/over best.
I was taught 50+ yrs ago yo,yo. I recently retaught my the yu,yo. So I am now team yu. It seems to make the items more durable. Less holes and the stuffing does not show . My favorite was the mermaid.
I had to reteach myself too.
I would love to make a turtle if you can tell me where to find it
Team yarn under all the way!
So far I'm getting a mixed response, it is very interesting watching the replies come in.
Hello, where did you get the pattern for the stitched cat my kids would love him!!
If it is one of the items I showed in the video, there is a google docs link in the description to all the patterns I used.
Thank you for the pattern links! I was interested in the axolotl but it says sold out. Just a heads up to others. (I didn’t think a digital pattern could sell out!)😢
If you message the seller I’m sure they will restock it they probably don’t realize it’s sold out yet.
If you message the seller I’m sure they will restock it they probably don’t realize it’s sold out yet.
I’ll do that! Thank you!
Team, I don’t know. 😊
I do under/over
Under over looks so much nicer!
With amigurmi I like to yarn under because I like the look of the "x" but I always forget to keep up with it because I have done over my whole life.
I do that too sometimes 🤗
Haha .. I'm not making amigarumis. Not sure I even actually understand the two concepts you are discussing. I just crochet the only way I know how to. 😂
😂 it’s just the direction your yarn goes around the hook if you yarn over the yarn is behind the hook and you wrap it over if you yarn under the yarn is in front of the hook then you wrap. Supposedly the under method makes a tighter stitch and uses less yarn🤷♀️
Im an over over but i see a lot of people teaching crocheting doing under....? for some reason. I do do under over sometimes, idky. this one random stitch, i will suddenly do under over. then revert back to over over.
I think the yarn under is for the amigurumi, because you get a tighter stitch.
Cute mermaid
Thanks!
I can’t get the grasp of yarn under
It took me a good minute. I had to think about what I was doing and now it just happens.
There isn’t a wrong way.
Correct 👍 it’s all preference
Under very
