Sure that Amber can do some good damage with proper gears and setup, but other characters are capable of doing the same if not higher damage in much safer and/or easier ways. As someone against genshine impact, what we meant is to adapt, adapt graphics, adapt physics, and adapt other things that make gameplay fun that made botw fun, BUT not like this, lets take for example Witcher 3 and AC origins, Ac origins adapted alot of its style, BUT they didn't make something like this, they feel like a different game but also adapts the fun parts, playing genshin impact (in my opinion), is kinda like when your daughter dies, but you love her so much that you replace her with a doll, your love is the same, but their not the same person, you can never replace her, shes dead, accept it, thats the energy i get when someone makes a comment like this

I’ve logged almost 300 hours into breath of the wild. Three different Playthroughs and I still found enjoyment in genshin impact. It’s great to soak yourself into a new world again.
Same thing with me, the only problem I have with Genshin Impact is Gacha, but it has a lot of great points such as co-op gameplay and the amount of content, and this last one I can explain. There are currently 2 zones in the map the Anemo and the Geo one, if we think about all the elements, there’s still about 5 zones to be released which means about 4/5 times the content we currently have, or even mor if we count events and stuff like that. The bets is that it’s completely free

We're at a point where games are already done many times before. I don't think we should be gatekeeping a certain genre/feature and calling a clone to whoever made it best before. Its a free market, if a game does a good job of implementing preexisting ideas it should be rewarded by people playing it.
But China is at a point where a game is judged a clone or not because there too many knockoff games created. Companies like Tencent and Netease make games awfully similiar to some famous big games to get people's attention, then make the game different in future patches. I'm not saying being similiar to some games is bad, but these companies are abusing it, thats what making me mad.

It bothers me how being inspired by a game's mechanic is called copying. By that logic, every FPS games nowadays would be called Doom-clone (which actually used to be the case in the late 90s/early 2000s but it's 2020)
Thats a terrible arguement imo. FPS is a genre not a game mechanic. Climbing and gliding are game mechanics. People are comparing this to BotW because both are open world adventure RPGs with the game mechanics of gliding, flying, crafting, cooking, etc. And not all FPS games are the same, Doom has glory kills and the grappling hook, Titanfall has wall running, Metro Exodus has scavenging. Using FPS as a scapegoat is so last decade, now everyone is groaning about every new battle royale, Fortnite, COD, PUBG, Apex Legends, The Culling. There was even a legitimate lawsuit between PUBG and Fortnite over this.

Not all FPS games is the same, just like not all open world action rpg is the same, but they all have things in common nonetheless that are results of inspirations from good game mechanics which people often mistake as "plagiarism".

When it was conceptualized, the first person perspective in games was made alonside the shooting element in the 1970’s (Spasim, Maze War). Hardly a game mechanic. And secondly, you’re over-simplifying why people think it’s plaigarism. Not only was it inspired by the game mechanics of BotW, but also its’ artstyle. If you really want a comparable scenario, look at TemTem and Pokemon. TemTem is heavily inspired by Pokemon’s story, art style and game mechanics yet nobody is criticizing it. Probably because it fixes the gripes adults had with the mainline Pokemon games, and substantially adds to the experience. Anyway while I disgree with the assertion that Genshin plaigarized BotW (they’re so different mechanically), I totally understand why people feel that way. And I do think it’s a bit justified imo.

Thu Tran you missed my point COMPLETELY. It wasn’t just about the mechanics but also artstyle that has people thinking it’s plaigarism. Climbing has been around since forever in video games, but not combined with a gliding mechanic and on open world geometry. And yeah Stamina was featured in that chinese game, Demon’s Souls, and Skyward Souls and others 10 years ago, it’s not new. Want to know why nobody complained? Because they were different enough stylistically and mechanically, the games did not revolve solely on stamina, nor did they look or feel the same. None were groundbreaking enough to set a precadent. They were also in development AT THE SAME TIME. Genshin Impact was not announced until 2 months before BoTW launched. See why people are a bit skeptical???
It's even more funny because Genshin Impact is made by a Chinese company. Why would they get mad when they just added one of their country's mountains in their game?
I remember thinking that genshin impact would be just one of those really bad replicas of another game until one of my friends told me that it was really fun and that I should give it a try even tho I am a really big fan of BOTW, and so I did. At first I was really upset about the similarities to zelda but after spending A LOT of time in this game, I can proudly say that I love it! The gameplay is fun, i love the exploration and you will easily fall in love with the characters and their backstories (I'm looking at you diluc). Yes they are a bit similar in some aspects but both are different enough to make them both fun! Currently I am AR40 and I can happily say that is a really fun RPG :)

A year or so this game has the potential to improve and people who will just start the game later will find themselves having so much more to do, but the downside being is missing some limited time events and previous characters.
i've logged over 1000 hours on botw over the past 3 years, and seeing genshin take the idea of botw's open world and thrust it into something even more is a nice change. i'm definitely having a lot of fun with genshin so far, and to top it off the soundtrack is amazing.

Well, the developer even admitted that Genshin Impact is inspired directly By Zelda BOTW so you might found a lot of similarity. So what's the big deal?
I'm a huge Zelda fan, played almost every game the published in the past 25 years including BOTW and I constantly see BOTW fans with a superiority complex. Genshin was inspired not only by BOTW and they share some features but neither did BOTW invent the open world genre, nor did it invent climbing, gliding etc, yet the BOTW community acts as if their game is the be all end all and Genshin is just a rip-off. I actually prefer Genshin, since I really hated some mechanics in BOTW but I dont think that Genshin is therfore the superior game 😑.
@@reading6914 that's correct. BOTW is more nuanced in its mechanics and how they effect the environment. If you set the ground on fire in BOTW, you create an upstream of wind, wich yoh can use with your glider. Genshin doesn't use that mechanic (yet). You can also use your bow in mid-air, in BOTW but not in Genshin. My main point is, that I dont see the point of arguing wich game came first, has more pronounced mechanics etc if you could instead focus on actual issues, like the almost insidious monetization practices of Genshin. People often respond with: well it's a gatcha game duhhh. But that only justifies the longterm downfall of a potential great franchise and doesnt actually adress or improve things. One of my main complaints about BOTW was the durability system of weapons. I played almost all zelda games in history and loved most of em and nobody could argue that BOTW has wandered far away from the established model. I would have loved the game if the devs would have implemented an option to turn off the durability system or gave us a material in game that could ve used to either restore or prevent the decline of durability.

After spending 30+ hours into the game, Genshin Impact is basically a Chinese gacha game with action JRPG gameplay mechanics coupled with BoTW's open world design. The game currently only has 2 story chapters with 2 regions. The first region is basically your typical Western RPG settings but this game starts to become a game of its own when you reach the second region, Li Yue. That region is a breath of fresh air to me cuz I've never played any AAA game with Chinese period setting. So yea, I can't wait for the other regions and see what the devs will bring to the table in future updates.
The game remind me of Guild Wars 2 in its update schedule. I hear that they will release episodic quest, then they will release a new region after that episodic chain end.

Every 45+- days there will be new update which introduces new character+episode/story for free. unless for the new character, it may be a gacha-ony or a f2p obtainable. In Honkai Impact sometimes they do have free character to give every 2 or 3 updates. So we should expect the same with Genshin here

Actually so sad that grown adults are reviving an argument that is basically on the same level as "Digimon ripped off pokemon" which kids used to have over 18 years ago. A lot of games are incredibly similar in their mechanics but as long as they possess enough traits that are different from one another its fine. Not every game is gonna reinvent the wheel and hardly any game did. BotW for sure didn't its an amalgamation of different mechanics that have all been used before combined into a beautiful whole. Genshin just added a couple more things, some good, some bad. Also they are on different consoles so hey its nice for the people without a switch as well.

The elect thing is just like a move that does stuff and another combine and they do more dmg, who would have guessed???? In combat it’s literally just with any event combined, they just do more dmg, it’s not interesting at all. The character variation is pretty lame too. I mean it’s just they have a different weapon and an element, but in combat all the elements so same stuff really and the weapons don’t make it interesting either. It’s like they took Link’s stuff and just spread all of it, into different characters
Apparently, the universe ripped off BOTW, like, i've grinded hundreds of hours into BOTW, and haven't played Genshin Impact yet, but from what I see, the game is inspired. It's honestly sad to see some of the BOTW community act like it's a rip off. BOTW didn't invent food, gliding, or swimming. We should be happy we have 2 great games.

While I liked Mondstat, it definitely felt like it was just kinda an rpg town plopped down in a botw style open world. I agree that Liyue is really when genshin comes into it's own. I love the tall mountains that take inspiration from Zhangjiajie, and the design of Liyue harbor is really cool too.
when I first played Genshin, I felt a huge similarity with BOTW. It made me really happy, because it felt like I was able to play BOTW again, as if it was my first time playing it.
The reason is simple To encourage people to spend $$$ to get venti which is overpowered, but amber is still used for some quest because of her pyro arrows
I feel like Amber's potential will only show up once you up her constellation. She still won't be your main DPS, but you can apply Pyro to everyone with those exploding bunnies.
I find her useful, I throw out the bunny, all enemies bunch up and then I can charge R2 with Lisa, then switch to MC when bunny explodes, do wind R2 which fans the flames everywhere and adds fire+wind damage and hits every enemy it's fun
There isn't exactly a meta, really, at least not so far, its prob going to get liek that, but you can use anyone how you want. Besides Amber is still usefull for all the fire based puzzles game just likes to throw at you.

True but I will say genshin could've been a bit more creative with the map, there are places in the game that look too much like the places in BOTW, some places on the map even have the same structure. And unless you played the game pretty sure the parts you saw on video are not all parts of the map (Genshin Impact map is biiiig). And they already have set plans on what the rest of the maps look like their building, culture and character designs. They aint from BOTW they all come from real life (one will be japan based icy region, another will be russian based icy region, even south african/india based region is upcoming)

People are so picky. The only things they can point out is “they have climbing mechanics, they have grass here, they have island there, just like botw!!” I have not yet seen someone point out a direct stolen design from botw. I’ll wait.
@@jobejones185 She absorbs the energy from the blows and sends it back at them with a blow, if you tap the skill the moment the blow hits she does it instantly, if you hold (charge) the skill it gives a wider window to allow the blow/s to hit. Its a parry, although with generous timing.
I don't even think it's the two fanbase tbh. From what I noticed it's people with anti-Chinese sentiment that are most opposed to this. Look at how any criticism they have of the game is basically "Chinese game devs have no original ideas and can only copy" forgetting the only reason why Chinese game devs are hated is because they illegally steal assets and sell what are essentially visual mods of other games. It doesn't seem that Genshin steals any assets. Like I feel non-Chinese developers get less flak for being inspired by other games, look at the reception of TemTem or Bug Fables, although that might have to do with some fans not liking the newest entries of the inspiration.
@@yogadgsix I literally have only 1 five-star character I got from the free rolls and has progressed to the current end-game with no problem. Way better than full-priced games that sell you 15 expansion packs for essential gameplay content.

Genshin impact is a direct copy of BOTW. The only things that are different in genshin impact are - the battle system - different enemies with different attacks - no weapon durability - multiple characters with unique abilities - better cities, towns and NPCs - different stamina and health system - different running and dashing - can’t cut down trees - climbing in the rain - different story - different fast travel points - better side quests - multiplayer - waifus - emergency food
From my understanding everyone that likes dark souls gets hyped when a new souls-like comes out because the series is over. Never seen anyone hating on souls likes.
Hmmm, meaningful exploration in a vast, scenic land... it screams 'Shadow of the Colossus' for me. To me, BotW took inspiration from SotC (vast land to explore, can climb surfaces, there's a glider, BIG bosses), and fleshed out what SotC did right. But at their core, both games are different, even if they share common elements. So, comparing Genshin Impact with BotW, I arrive to the same conclusion as when comparing SotC and BotW. The later game grabs what worked properly for the older one, polishes it, then uses it to achieve a different end. Three different games, with similarities, all work to their respective objectives, all cool creations. Period.
@@cannedpeaches4051 True enough, but aside from SotC, only God of War and Zelda: Ocarina of Time come to mind when talking about proper presentation of bosses of such size. I'm not saying there aren't any other examples, nor that man's fascination with gargantuan creatures is something new; but where games are concerned, getting the 'feel' right is something only these examples have managed to accomplish despite limitations, system or otherwise. Botw has more of a timing battle feel, like timing when to parry or use a skill While genshin simply has you more like a fighting game, trying to do deal as much damage from switching combos while dodging atks
Best thing about Genshin Impact is that it's clearly inspired by BOTW, but it manages to combine JRPG and Anime elements to become its own unique game. Instead of calling Genshin a 'copy', the more appropriate term should be 'creative derivation'.

@@thewildwil2544 That's like saying that Breath of the Wild took Skyrim, gave it the Standard Ubisoft Open World Towers, made it anime (since it's blatantly inspired by Studio Ghibli's art style), then took the Ys series' Perfect Dodge/Block mechanics, and made it easier. GI took inspiration from BotW (though it's character swapping system is probably closer to Tokyo Xanadu's then Ys'), but did its own thing with it, and has been adding tons of lore, regions, puzzles, characters (each of whom has their own unique combat styles), mechanics, bosses, etc... on a consistent basis.

I like genshin impact for the most part, the art, the performance, the combat is simple but fun. But I'm so done with the free game elongated progression. I just can't grind out another expanding roster of powercreepers with a million materials, currencies and meters and special tuesday-only items here and login this many days for this important thing and play on christmas for the exclusive christmas hat ect ect ect. Lifes too short. I wish this game was just a regular asking price, and it was condensed down into maximum fun for the time spent. No bottlenecks or speed bumps or progression blockers or spreading the same content out so thin. Characters unlock throughout the story and the best characters in the game are not rare 5 star exclusive random pulls, but earned by playing it, you get to try the content in the game instead of being denied because of a dice roll. A game whos main consideration is fun first and not artificially drawing things out or randomizing them so it seems like a better idea to put another coin in the slot machine. People say its a botw clone but its mostly just the map and traversal. In some ways the progression is the antithesis of botw. Botw was actually surprisingly refreshing to me. I thought nintendo was going to be proud to serve me reskinned skyrim 8 years too late, but it wasn't that at all. The amount of design and consideration into what to show the player and what not to an how the game progresses is so well done, even with as many open world games I have played, and towers I have climbed, it just became so appealing to keep playing because it was so masterfully crafted, when it could have been the most worn out and over done experience. Honestly, I think games are taking away the wrong lessons from what made botw good, or at least what I appreciated about it the most. It wasn't just "Big world, chest on hilltop, climb everything, 10/10" There was much more design work put into it to make it what it was.
Gacha micro transaction generates more money, allow more funds for the game to grow steadily to milk the player, so the game can be relevant longer. Business wise, you can’t beat gacha, as long the dev not too greedy or lazy.
@@addedpole Its not about speed. Botw was not a short game for me. Its about choice and control. You can go right to the end or you can put in hundreds of hours. In a gacha game, you don't even choose what characters you get. You get random and your only choice is to buy more chances if you don't like what the first result was. Free games are about taking choice away from the player and pretending that random is fair to everyone, when its mostly just to ensure some players get less than others due to bad luck and pressure them to compensate with money. I'm just tired of if. I think it interferes with good game design by adding in different considerations beyond making a good game. Also, I don't believe the story in this game to be the real draw, its really nothing special. Its fine for what it needs to be but I think character acquisition and progression is the draw. And thats the thing that has most of the usual, free game hallmarks I have become tired of.
Safe to say i'm 100+ hours into Genshin Impact by now and the exploration and puzzles are absolutely on steroids. More so than I remember ZBOTW being. Yes, BOTW did pioneer the art of having hundreds of tiny puzzles scattered over the place with 5m apart from eachother. But it feels more rewarding in GI. Similarities between the games are undeniable, but at the core, they are two very different games. And GI, while very fun up to this point, it has a lot of work still needed. For after the ~100 hour mark once you reach adventure level 30, quests start to slow down considerably and it the world becomes explored. It seems like at this point, the game doesn't have much more to offer...
I'd like to add that this game honestly blows Breath of The Wild's worlds and quests out of the park. There are so few creative quests with stories to tell in Breath of The Wild, I'd take the hide and seek quest and that sad story over any side quest in BoTW (if I could even point to one as memorable enough)
As someone who played both games. I prefered Genshin now for many reasons. People also never mentions how many more inspirations the game has and qualities: - Its not only BOTW, you have A LOT of achievements, mechanics and skills that makes reference to other games, anime or content in general (jojo and one character has literally a stand, chunibyou, full metal alchemist, fallout, etc). - The lore has a lot of content, you have interactions between characters and more than 50+ books or so, they even put events with limited lore. - The way elements are used is better. You can make ice plataforms to get across islands faster or destroy elemental shields and cause different dmgs lvls with combinations with other players and yourself. - Not every character just runs and swims the same, small characters have a whole different animation and specific characters too. The way they attack is also different. Some characters can heal, others can shield and so on. - The co-op mode makes things way more fun and you can talk to players and help them, fight together, even interact with their skill. -Events give all the players really good items for free. We don't pay for any expansions or rewards. - You don't need to pay for characters just explore. I got all the characters I liked. I even normally carry in domains. -There is no "p2w" everyone has limited entry to domains and need hard work to get what they need. It's not "oh I got this strong char I'm good" because you need resources. There are even expert players that use really crappy items to show how much they can be strong with only the right build.
Hmm almost like the rpg has rpg elements while the non rpg he does not. But in all honesty it's like comparing Cod to splatoon both are different things but with the same premis. In this case go and explore the world at your own pace. Genshin is a never ending fetch quest for a game that won't end anytime soon. Zelda is really a breath of the wild you enjoy the world and piece what happened. It gives more solice and atmosphere to the area further pushed by the music choices. While genshin is bloated at times and as I said earlier there is no real end goal here your just waiting for the next update. The gacha part isn't the worst but it's still pretty bad. Not being able to do a puzzle because you don't have the right character. Or some of the puzzles are quick to tire before your doing the same thing over and over again. Botw had this problem too but the difference is that the world botw is set in helps with it and genshin world were not made by professionals. Again this is only in botw favor because the game has a end

Just characters and items? Well, no, it also adds to lore, new regions to explore and quests, go cry abt that! So the gacha aspect is not a weak side of the game, if you have enough time, patience and you understand simple mechanics of pity in genshin you'd get any characters you like. Or you don't like it when you have to be patient in games? Not my problem!
5:55 Ikr? People don't realize how powerful Botw is. If people take inspiration / copy you, that means what you are doing is god damn amazing. I've been playing Genshin for a week now and I feel like it's the best game to play while we wait for Botw2. For fucking God's sake, it's a fucking *free* game. You don't have to pay to progress the story. You don't have to spend money to have fun.
If you get turn off by the gacha, here's the thing,all character are useful even amber,i use her,a lot More than fischl to be exact,and you can complete the game content(currently) using all the free character and without touching the gacha, there's no pvp(currently),so don't worry about not getting the best character(although diluc is broken as hell),all the boss has their set attack patern,like the wolves boss(one of the hardest imo)that wolves attack is dangerous but before he charges towards you,he always nod first i fight the wolf with only amber,took me like 5 minutes but I don't mind I should also tell if all your character die in a bossfight or something,you will get respawn without losing anything valuable
Also some puzzle will take more time if u not using amber. I reach AR 30 with her in my party. Diluc? I dont care about him, i more interes about qiqi U have adventage with her height And dont forget about her bridge maker, it makes your journey easier But, the sad story is . . . . I dont have her

I genuinly don't even think that the "Copy" aspects are too bad either. I rather like it as a way to bring that to most familiar feeling back and makes you want to see more. The cliff at the start? A great way to show that the exploration factor is huge, showing a similar feeling to BOTW. The island in the distance is like a spot you know you want to go to and need to find a way how, etc. And, it's not like all is 100% unique to BOTW they did, in a way, copy. It just fits the best in a way. All in all I think Genshin has a lot we have to look forward too, especially in landscape and story, and will always be a game we can come back too and see how it has changed over the course of a few updates, with more locations coming soon, and even as it seems whole new worlds one day. So this game will be highly popular for...A few years or even decades
You say the story is nothin to write home about yet you’re totally not mentionning the amount of cutscenes and dialogs that flesh out characters and the plot. If I only watched this review Id guess the game has no identity and just a grind of loot and exploration

I know right, I've played for quite a bit and haven't felt the need to spend a single dime yet, gotten a five start character already, good leveling, been clearing every dungeon i've faced and qust with no problems. I love it, i'm sure the late game has a super high grind where you might have to spend a little bit, but I feel like i could do the main story without spending anything.
not yet that's just the thing with "ftp" gacha games. They make you sucked in with the game accesible challenge, free roll, etc. few updates later and they make the difficulty harder so you have to either grind for 50 hours, or buy their slot machine so you get better character. They want to make money at the end of the day, they just not gonna invest huge amount of time and money to make games and just release it for free, they want you to spend money on them
Just wanna point out: 1. Yes, it's a gacha game. But the free characters are pretty good and you can get to the end-content as of now with just them. Even without spending the free premium currency it gives you. 2. You get around 40+ free rolls. Free in the sense that you get premium currency via just playing the game. I've spun 30 times and have gotten some pretty good characters. There's also a pity system so you can get a guaranteed 5 star after a ton of rolls. 3. The game is not 100% done yet. There's only 2 regions out of 8-10 (forgot how many but they said they'll make one fot each element) available. The game will obviously update in the future with tons more content and adjustments. 5. All the grind you hear about is just people trying to max their characters since there's not much to do at the end-game. And that's because the game is not 100% done yet. As I said previously, more stuff will come. 6. Resin (energy) system is stupid and they are doing a survey to all players so they can adjust it accordingly. 7. The music in this game is amazing. Each region really feels distinct and unique. So far, there's the typical fantasy region. Then there's one traditional China-inspired. And the next region will be Ruasian-inspired! 8. It's a free game. Just try it out for yourself and see if you like it. You have nothing to lose. Unlike if you buy BOTW and then end up not liking it, you lose $60.
Actually this information im about to say is a mild spoiler from the game's channel's story video. It doesnt spoil the plot but just tells you where you are going and what might happen the next region will actually be Inazuma, a Japanese inspired country on an island. Sneznya, is Russian and is i believe the second to last country you will be going to.

Same, pre-loaded and started day 1 just to see if it was any good / possibly clown on it for being a Breath of the Wild ripoff. Played every day since and whaled out for every character to date. One of my favorite games of all time to be perfectly honest.

Let me tell you why I personally think they're different. When I play botw, I spend my time finding new weapons to beat up Ganon with, when I play Genshin Impact, I spend my time finding new waifus to beat up Ganon with. See the difference? The feeling of similarity starts AND ENDS with the exploration (and cooking).
It can happen, its a matter of luck. I pulled my first ten on limited banner, after saving up the freemogems, on the first Zhongli banner and got both ZL and Diluc.
Flying, climbing, elemnets, oh such revolutionary concepts botw came up with that genshin oh so blatantly copied -_+ They say they were inspired by botw themselves. They were also very inspired by a bunch of other stuff which they openly talk about. It's only the botw fans riding on a high horse for some reason.

As someone against genshine impact, what we meant is to adapt, adapt graphics, adapt physics, and adapt other things that make gameplay fun that made botw fun, BUT not like this, lets take for example Witcher 3 and AC origins, Ac origins adapted alot of its style, BUT they didn't make something like this, they feel like a different game but also adapts the fun parts, playing genshin impact (in my opinion), is kinda like when your daughter dies, but you love her so much that you replace her with a doll, your love is the same, but their not the same person, you can never replace her, shes dead, accept it, thats the energy i get when someone makes a comment like this

I’ve logged almost 300 hours into breath of the wild. Three different Playthroughs and I still found enjoyment in genshin impact. It’s great to soak yourself into a new world again.
Same thing with me, the only problem I have with Genshin Impact is Gacha, but it has a lot of great points such as co-op gameplay and the amount of content, and this last one I can explain. There are currently 2 zones in the map the Anemo and the Geo one, if we think about all the elements, there’s still about 5 zones to be released which means about 4/5 times the content we currently have, or even mor if we count events and stuff like that. The bets is that it’s completely free

We're at a point where games are already done many times before. I don't think we should be gatekeeping a certain genre/feature and calling a clone to whoever made it best before. Its a free market, if a game does a good job of implementing preexisting ideas it should be rewarded by people playing it.

But China is at a point where a game is judged a clone or not because there too many knockoff games created. Companies like Tencent and Netease make games awfully similiar to some famous big games to get people's attention, then make the game different in future patches.
I'm not saying being similiar to some games is bad, but these companies are abusing it, thats what making me mad.
There must be hundreds, thousands of games in existence that came out before these. And many have similarities or are even exact replicas.

People are comparing this to BotW because both are open world adventure RPGs with the game mechanics of gliding, flying, crafting, cooking, etc.
And not all FPS games are the same, Doom has glory kills and the grappling hook, Titanfall has wall running, Metro Exodus has scavenging.
Using FPS as a scapegoat is so last decade, now everyone is groaning about every new battle royale, Fortnite, COD, PUBG, Apex Legends, The Culling. There was even a legitimate lawsuit between PUBG and Fortnite over this.

Not all FPS games is the same, just like not all open world action rpg is the same, but they all have things in common nonetheless that are results of inspirations from good game mechanics which people often mistake as "plagiarism".
Borta Maga i still disagree, FPS didn’t magically turn into a genre from being a game mechanic. When it was conceptualized, the first person perspective in games was made alonside the shooting element in the 1970’s (Spasim, Maze War). Hardly a game mechanic.
And secondly, you’re over-simplifying why people think it’s plaigarism. Not only was it inspired by the game mechanics of BotW, but also its’ artstyle.
If you really want a comparable scenario, look at TemTem and Pokemon. TemTem is heavily inspired by Pokemon’s story, art style and game mechanics yet nobody is criticizing it. Probably because it fixes the gripes adults had with the mainline Pokemon games, and substantially adds to the experience.
Anyway while I disgree with the assertion that Genshin plaigarized BotW (they’re so different mechanically), I totally understand why people feel that way. And I do think it’s a bit justified imo.

Climbing has been around since forever in video games, but not combined with a gliding mechanic and on open world geometry. And yeah Stamina was featured in that chinese game, Demon’s Souls, and Skyward Souls and others 10 years ago, it’s not new. Want to know why nobody complained? Because they were different enough stylistically and mechanically, the games did not revolve solely on stamina, nor did they look or feel the same. None were groundbreaking enough to set a precadent. They were also in development AT THE SAME TIME.
Genshin Impact was not announced until 2 months before BoTW launched. See why people are a bit skeptical???

It's even more funny because Genshin Impact is made by a Chinese company. Why would they get mad when they just added one of their country's mountains in their game?
I remember thinking that genshin impact would be just one of those really bad replicas of another game until one of my friends told me that it was really fun and that I should give it a try even tho I am a really big fan of BOTW, and so I did. At first I was really upset about the similarities to zelda but after spending A LOT of time in this game, I can proudly say that I love it! The gameplay is fun, i love the exploration and you will easily fall in love with the characters and their backstories (I'm looking at you diluc). Yes they are a bit similar in some aspects but both are different enough to make them both fun! Currently I am AR40 and I can happily say that is a really fun RPG :)

i've logged over 1000 hours on botw over the past 3 years, and seeing genshin take the idea of botw's open world and thrust it into something even more is a nice change. i'm definitely having a lot of fun with genshin so far, and to top it off the soundtrack is amazing.

The biggest difference is the fact it’s free,so the progression is artificially locked behind paid currency(mainly resin) and I think Genshin will loose a looooot of players behin the ar 28-40 wall

Well, the developer even admitted that Genshin Impact is inspired directly By Zelda BOTW so you might found a lot of similarity. So what's the big deal?
I'm a huge Zelda fan, played almost every game the published in the past 25 years including BOTW and I constantly see BOTW fans with a superiority complex. Genshin was inspired not only by BOTW and they share some features but neither did BOTW invent the open world genre, nor did it invent climbing, gliding etc, yet the BOTW community acts as if their game is the be all end all and Genshin is just a rip-off.
I actually prefer Genshin, since I really hated some mechanics in BOTW but I dont think that Genshin is therfore the superior game 😑.

If you set the ground on fire in BOTW, you create an upstream of wind, wich yoh can use with your glider. Genshin doesn't use that mechanic (yet). You can also use your bow in mid-air, in
BOTW but not in Genshin.
My main point is, that I dont see the point of arguing wich game came first, has more pronounced mechanics etc if you could instead focus on actual issues, like the almost insidious monetization practices of Genshin.
People often respond with: well it's a gatcha game duhhh. But that only justifies the longterm downfall of a potential great franchise and doesnt actually adress or improve things.
One of my main complaints about BOTW was the durability system of weapons.
I played almost all zelda games in history and loved most of em and nobody could argue that BOTW has wandered far away from the established model. I would have loved the game if the devs would have implemented an option to turn off the durability system or gave us a material in game that could ve used to either restore or prevent the decline of durability.

After spending 30+ hours into the game, Genshin Impact is basically a Chinese gacha game with action JRPG gameplay mechanics coupled with BoTW's open world design. The game currently only has 2 story chapters with 2 regions. The first region is basically your typical Western RPG settings but this game starts to become a game of its own when you reach the second region, Li Yue. That region is a breath of fresh air to me cuz I've never played any AAA game with Chinese period setting. So yea, I can't wait for the other regions and see what the devs will bring to the table in future updates.
The game remind me of Guild Wars 2 in its update schedule. I hear that they will release episodic quest, then they will release a new region after that episodic chain end.

Every 45+- days there will be new update which introduces new character+episode/story for free. unless for the new character, it may be a gacha-ony or a f2p obtainable. Actually so sad that grown adults are reviving an argument that is basically on the same level as "Digimon ripped off pokemon" which kids used to have over 18 years ago.
A lot of games are incredibly similar in their mechanics but as long as they possess enough traits that are different from one another its fine.
Not every game is gonna reinvent the wheel and hardly any game did. BotW for sure didn't its an amalgamation of different mechanics that have all been used before combined into a beautiful whole.
Genshin just added a couple more things, some good, some bad.
Also they are on different consoles so hey its nice for the people without a switch as well.

The elect thing is just like a move that does stuff and another combine and they do more dmg, who would have guessed???? In combat it’s literally just with any event combined, they just do more dmg, it’s not interesting at all. The character variation is pretty lame too. Apparently, the universe ripped off BOTW, like, i've grinded hundreds of hours into BOTW, and haven't played Genshin Impact yet, but from what I see, the game is inspired. While I liked Mondstat, it definitely felt like it was just kinda an rpg town plopped down in a botw style open world. I agree that Liyue is really when genshin comes into it's own. I love the tall mountains that take inspiration from Zhangjiajie, and the design of Liyue harbor is really cool too.

when I first played Genshin, I felt a huge similarity with BOTW. It made me really happy, because it felt like I was able to play BOTW again, as if it was my first time playing it.

To encourage people to spend $$$ to get venti which is overpowered, but amber is still used for some quest because of her pyro arrows
I feel like Amber's potential will only show up once you up her constellation. She still won't be your main DPS, but you can apply Pyro to everyone with those exploding bunnies.

And they already have set plans on what the rest of the maps look like their building, culture and character designs. They aint from BOTW they all come from real life (one will be japan based icy region, another will be russian based icy region, even south african/india based region is upcoming)

Look at how any criticism they have of the game is basically "Chinese game devs have no original ideas and can only copy" forgetting the only reason why Chinese game devs are hated is because they illegally steal assets and sell what are essentially visual mods of other games.
It doesn't seem that Genshin steals any assets.
Like I feel non-Chinese developers get less flak for being inspired by other games, look at the reception of TemTem or Bug Fables, although that might have to do with some fans not liking the newest entries of the inspiration.

Hmmm, meaningful exploration in a vast, scenic land... it screams 'Shadow of the Colossus' for me. To me, BotW took inspiration from SotC (vast land to explore, can climb surfaces, there's a glider, BIG bosses), and fleshed out what SotC did right. But at their core, both games are different, even if they share common elements.
So, comparing Genshin Impact with BotW, I arrive to the same conclusion as when comparing SotC and BotW. The later game grabs what worked properly for the older one, polishes it, then uses it to achieve a different end.
Three different games, with similarities, all work to their respective objectives, all cool creations. Period.

Best thing about Genshin Impact is that it's clearly inspired by BOTW, but it manages to combine JRPG and Anime elements to become its own unique game. Instead of calling Genshin a 'copy', the more appropriate term should be 'creative derivation'.

@@thewildwil2544 That's like saying that Breath of the Wild took Skyrim, gave it the Standard Ubisoft Open World Towers, made it anime (since it's blatantly inspired by Studio Ghibli's art style), then took the Ys series' Perfect Dodge/Block mechanics, and made it easier.
GI took inspiration from BotW (though it's character swapping system is probably closer to Tokyo Xanadu's then Ys'), but did its own thing with it, and has been adding tons of lore, regions, puzzles, characters (each of whom has their own unique combat styles), mechanics, bosses, etc... on a consistent basis.
It is still a gacha game and for that reason I just cant be botherd to touch it

I like genshin impact for the most part, the art, the performance, the combat is simple but fun. But I'm so done with the free game elongated progression. I just can't grind out another expanding roster of powercreepers with a million materials, currencies and meters and special tuesday-only items here and login this many days for this important thing and play on christmas for the exclusive christmas hat ect ect ect. Lifes too short.
I wish this game was just a regular asking price, and it was condensed down into maximum fun for the time spent. No bottlenecks or speed bumps or progression blockers or spreading the same content out so thin. Characters unlock throughout the story and the best characters in the game are not rare 5 star exclusive random pulls, but earned by playing it, you get to try the content in the game instead of being denied because of a dice roll. A game whos main consideration is fun first and not artificially drawing things out or randomizing them so it seems like a better idea to put another coin in the slot machine.
People say its a botw clone but its mostly just the map and traversal. In some ways the progression is the antithesis of botw. Botw was actually surprisingly refreshing to me. I thought nintendo was going to be proud to serve me reskinned skyrim 8 years too late, but it wasn't that at all. The amount of design and consideration into what to show the player and what not to an how the game progresses is so well done, even with as many open world games I have played, and towers I have climbed, it just became so appealing to keep playing because it was so masterfully crafted, when it could have been the most worn out and over done experience. Honestly, I think games are taking away the wrong lessons from what made botw good, or at least what I appreciated about it the most. It wasn't just "Big world, chest on hilltop, climb everything, 10/10" There was much more design work put into it to make it what it was.
Genshin impact is a single player emmersive game. There's no fun on progressing the story fast
Gacha micro transaction generates more money, allow more funds for the game to grow steadily to milk the player, so the game can be relevant longer. Business wise, you can’t beat gacha, as long the dev not too greedy or lazy.

Its not about speed. Botw was not a short game for me. Its about choice and control. You can go right to the end or you can put in hundreds of hours. In a gacha game, you don't even choose what characters you get. You get random and your only choice is to buy more chances if you don't like what the first result was. Free games are about taking choice away from the player and pretending that random is fair to everyone, when its mostly just to ensure some players get less than others due to bad luck and pressure them to compensate with money. I'm just tired of if. I think it interferes with good game design by adding in different considerations beyond making a good game.
Also, I don't believe the story in this game to be the real draw, its really nothing special. Its fine for what it needs to be but I think character acquisition and progression is the draw. And thats the thing that has most of the usual, free game hallmarks I have become tired of.

Safe to say i'm 100+ hours into Genshin Impact by now and the exploration and puzzles are absolutely on steroids. More so than I remember ZBOTW being. Yes, BOTW did pioneer the art of having hundreds of tiny puzzles scattered over the place with 5m apart from eachother. But it feels more rewarding in GI.
Similarities between the games are undeniable, but at the core, they are two very different games. And GI, while very fun up to this point, it has a lot of work still needed. For after the ~100 hour mark once you reach adventure level 30, quests start to slow down considerably and it the world becomes explored. It seems like at this point, the game doesn't have much more to offer...
We can only wait for the next update, also primogems in almost every chest is a big plus.

I'd like to add that this game honestly blows Breath of The Wild's worlds and quests out of the park. There are so few creative quests with stories to tell in Breath of The Wild, I'd take the hide and seek quest and that sad story over any side quest in BoTW (if I could even point to one as memorable enough)

As someone who played both games. I prefered Genshin now for many reasons. People also never mentions how many more inspirations the game has and qualities:
- Its not only BOTW, you have A LOT of achievements, mechanics and skills that makes reference to other games, anime or content in general (jojo and one character has literally a stand, chunibyou, full metal alchemist, fallout, etc).
- The lore has a lot of content, you have interactions between characters and more than 50+ books or so, they even put events with limited lore.
- The way elements are used is better. You can make ice plataforms to get across islands faster or destroy elemental shields and cause different dmgs lvls with combinations with other players and yourself.
- Not every character just runs and swims the same, small characters have a whole different animation and specific characters too. The way they attack is also different. Some characters can heal, others can shield and so on.
- The co-op mode makes things way more fun and you can talk to players and help them, fight together, even interact with their skill.
-Events give all the players really good items for free. We don't pay for any expansions or rewards.
- You don't need to pay for characters just explore. I got all the characters I liked. I even normally carry in domains.
-There is no "p2w" everyone has limited entry to domains and need hard work to get what they need. It's not "oh I got this strong char I'm good" because you need resources. There are even expert players that use really crappy items to show how much they can be strong with only the right build.
Hmm almost like the rpg has rpg elements while the non rpg he does not. But in all honesty it's like comparing Cod to splatoon both are different things but with the same premis. In this case go and explore the world at your own pace. Genshin is a never ending fetch quest for a game that won't end anytime soon. Zelda is really a breath of the wild you enjoy the world and piece what happened. It gives more solice and atmosphere to the area further pushed by the music choices. While genshin is bloated at times and as I said earlier there is no real end goal here your just waiting for the next update. The gacha part isn't the worst but it's still pretty bad. Not being able to do a puzzle because you don't have the right character. Or some of the puzzles are quick to tire before your doing the same thing over and over again. Botw had this problem too but the difference is that the world botw is set in helps with it and genshin world were not made by professionals. Again this is only in botw favor because the game has a end

It's not a bad thing that Genhsin impact has no end, many games don't but you wouldn't cry abt that, ofc you need to humiliate only genshin. What do you even think new updates are? Just characters and items? Well, no, it also adds to lore, new regions to explore and quests, go cry abt that!

The gacha isn't even bad at all, i made a perfect team for free, i played the whole lore for free and never spent a single penny on it, and what? am i struggling? just bc i don't have enough time to play, lol.
So the gacha aspect is not a weak side of the game, if you have enough time, patience and you understand simple mechanics of pity in genshin you'd get any characters you like. Or you don't like it when you have to be patient in games? Not my problem!

I've been playing Genshin for a week now and I feel like it's the best game to play while we wait for Botw2.

More than fischl to be exact,and you can complete the game content(currently) using all the free character and without touching the gacha, there's no pvp(currently),so don't worry about not getting the best character(although diluc is broken as hell),all the boss has their set attack patern,like the wolves boss(one of the hardest imo)that wolves attack is dangerous but before he charges towards you,he always nod first
i fight the wolf with only amber,took me like 5 minutes but I don't mind
I should also tell if all your character die in a bossfight or something,you will get respawn without losing anything valuable
Also some puzzle will take more time if u not using amber. I reach AR 30 with her in my party.

I genuinly don't even think that the "Copy" aspects are too bad either. I rather like it as a way to bring that to most familiar feeling back and makes you want to see more. The cliff at the start? A great way to show that the exploration factor is huge, showing a similar feeling to BOTW. The island in the distance is like a spot you know you want to go to and need to find a way how, etc. And, it's not like all is 100% unique to BOTW they did, in a way, copy. It just fits the best in a way. All in all I think Genshin has a lot we have to look forward too, especially in landscape and story, and will always be a game we can come back too and see how it has changed over the course of a few updates, with more locations coming soon, and even as it seems whole new worlds one day. So this game will be highly popular for...A few years or even decades
You say the story is nothin to write home about yet you’re totally not mentionning the amount of cutscenes and dialogs that flesh out characters and the plot. If I only watched this review Id guess the game has no identity and just a grind of loot and exploration

I know right, I've played for quite a bit and haven't felt the need to spend a single dime yet, gotten a five start character already, good leveling, been clearing every dungeon i've faced and qust with no problems. I love it, i'm sure the late game has a super high grind where you might have to spend a little bit, but I feel like i could do the main story without spending anything.

They make you sucked in with the game accesible challenge, free roll, etc. few updates later and they make the difficulty harder so you have to either grind for 50 hours, or buy their slot machine so you get better character.
They want to make money at the end of the day, they just not gonna invest huge amount of time and money to make games and just release it for free, they want you to spend money on them

Just wanna point out:
1. Yes, it's a gacha game. But the free characters are pretty good and you can get to the end-content as of now with just them. Even without spending the free premium currency it gives you.
2. You get around 40+ free rolls. Free in the sense that you get premium currency via just playing the game. I've spun 30 times and have gotten some pretty good characters. There's also a pity system so you can get a guaranteed 5 star after a ton of rolls.
3. The game is not 100% done yet. There's only 2 regions out of 8-10 (forgot how many but they said they'll make one fot each element) available. The game will obviously update in the future with tons more content and adjustments.
5. All the grind you hear about is just people trying to max their characters since there's not much to do at the end-game. And that's because the game is not 100% done yet. As I said previously, more stuff will come.
6. Resin (energy) system is stupid and they are doing a survey to all players so they can adjust it accordingly.
7. The music in this game is amazing. Each region really feels distinct and unique. So far, there's the typical fantasy region. Then there's one traditional China-inspired. And the next region will be Ruasian-inspired!
8. It's a free game. Just try it out for yourself and see if you like it. You have nothing to lose. Unlike if you buy BOTW and then end up not liking it, you lose $60.

Same, pre-loaded and started day 1 just to see if it was any good / possibly clown on it for being a Breath of the Wild ripoff. Played every day since and whaled out for every character to date. One of my favorite games of all time to be perfectly honest.

Let me tell you why I personally think they're different. When I play botw, I spend my time finding new weapons to beat up Ganon with, when I play Genshin Impact, I spend my time finding new waifus to beat up Ganon with. See the difference? The feeling of similarity starts AND ENDS with the exploration (and cooking).

It can happen, its a matter of luck. I pulled my first ten on limited banner, after saving up the freemogems, on the first Zhongli banner and got both ZL and Diluc.
