Never heard this version with the keyboard break. I remember it from a later gig at a short-lived club called that was calling itself the Cavern Club, and I was told that's where the song title came from. I don't remember it being a regular part of the set, but then it got on Black radio and the rest is history.
NYC 40 years ago: Crime and urban decay was rampant but arts and culture was so full of life. Graffiti could be gang markings or you could be passing by a Basquist or Haring original.
From what I read, hiphop and punk were intertwined. The story is Debbie Harry walked into a club where Fab Five Freddy was mixing and Debbie Harry told Freddy "i'm gonna put you into a song".
@seraphimprince Well, that is kinda of true if you go off mainstream but hip hop should have been attacked to the disco and funk but was disliked for sampling and just like punk wasn't excepted by the rock and rollers, so The two would work best together creating the sub cultures that are now marketable. In my opinion the Beastie boys are the creaters and innovators of these sounds becoming one. We can go further back and get reggae involved but I'll save it for another thread. I'm just information junkie... Take care.
Pretty sure this was the Mudd Club 1981. I was the DJ that night. Judging from the stage size, the size of the crowd, and my memory of the show I saw.
I'm from Portugal and I love this music. I met him in 2007 and to this day I have to listen

Talented group. Drummer especially was rockin’ it!!
Priceless.
I think I saw James Murphy at the crowd grooving into it

About 25yrs ahead of their time
darn what groups were they influenced by?
The bass's way too low in this mix 😢
It's the mic
It's a bid muffled. But shows the other instruments are really locked in the groove.
NYC ❤ 🔥
