"With a set of race tires and then a set of qualifiers available to each driver, the battle for pole went like this:
After ten minutes, Prost had set the fastest time and the best from Senna was three-tenths slower. On the next lap, Senna took pole - only to have Prost improve on that on his very next lap. Senna responded by slicing 0.009s from Alain's time, but Prost was already on his way to an even better effort. Senna was now relying on one last run on his qualifiers.
'I couldn't go any quicker on race tires,' said Ayrton. 'But when I put the qualifiers on, I had a slight problem with third gear jumping out a couple of times - I think one of the dog rings may have been damaged - and that meant things were a bit of a handful through the fast ess-bends. As things turned out, qualifying rubber was fractionally quicker for me, but I don't think we got the best from it."

Just before my time, but I remember the stories my mother would tell me about 87-90 F1 seasons, she used to be able to hear these cars from her old building unit in Habitat 67. Man what I would've given to see these cars.

That’s awesome. Sometimes I would be a little late arriving to the track and you could hear the cars from across the river as I arrived at the metro station. Truly a great sound!
