I love that you have adapted to living with the wildlife in your area. And you have proven you can get beautiful fruits and veggies and still share with the wildlife. Love your compassion and your gardening helpful videos. Bless you and yours.

We have many plum and pluot cultivars in our yards for about 10 years now and Santa Rosa plum is everyone's most favorite.

I make the best plum jam by putting four cups of fruit with 1 cup sugar , juice of 1/2 lemon and 1 TBSP of cinnamon. Cook down on med heat, stirring often... til jam coats a cold spoon. about 20 - 40 minutes. Put into small jam jars with loose lids and freeze. Once frozen tighten lids. Will keep in the freezer a year or two. You can taste the fruit and tartness in this low sugar jam.

Good information. I bought one at Lowes this spring and the tag said it needed a mate to produce fruit. I don't have the spare cash to do that this year, but I noticed mine has tiny plums which I thought was odd. Now I know why.

Yep, the wildlife loved our asian pear tree too. We didn't get many pears off that tree but we did see the squirrels climb right up, tuck one under their chin and scurry off.

Thank you for your info on the Santa Rosa plum. I have had mine over 9 years and have yet to get any fruit. Can you please advise how and when to fertilize. I usually do this beginning in early February, here on the Central Coast, with an all purpose, slow release, fish emulsion and compost. Not sure what I am doing wrong. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. TY

Sir, Wonderful. Would you kindly let me know the chill hours requirement for Santa rosa plum a great gift by Luther burbank eminent botanist from US. I love this plum. So gorgeous. But climate seems to be a constraint. I am from India and climate is subtropical with mild winters. Mainly I have grown about 25 plants of lichi. About just 10 plants of Amrapali mango which is distinctly dwarf. Summer temperature in typical summers may reach 37-38 degrees Celsius. Nice and useful video. Welcome and regards. Thanks. 👌👍🙏🙏

what zone are you in I'm in Northwest Pennsylvania 5 my Amish Buddy had a Stanley palm tree in his yard I couldn't believe how different it was from the palms in the store they were so sweet. It goes to show you corporate food has no comparison to homegrown. People should buy for more small farmer gardener farm markets etc. it's way higher quality food and even if it ain't organic it's probably way less chemicals. Great Video, do you know if Luther used Green Gage plum in his crosses to create the Santa Rosa Plum. The leaves and shape look exactly the same as a green gage one of my all time favourite plums and so sweet. Only thing that looks different is the colour.
You have some really healthy trees there. Plums look fantastic.

I have always had a question about pollination that no one can give me a straight answer on. If you plant one variety of tree and need a pollinator, should you plant a different variety? I've always thought that two of the same tree variety won't pollinate each other due to them being cuttings from the same parent?

Correction, the Santa Rosa plum is not even slightly self fertile. It's actually not receptive to a lot of other cultivars, but it is a good pollinizer them.

The Santa Rosa strain that I've experienced is definitely not self fertile. In fact its very picky about which strains of Asian type plums it's fruitful with. It seems to be a very good pollinizer of other varieties, but from my experience and the experience of many others I know, no on self fertile
