  • October marks the fiftieth anniversary of the 1973 surprise attack on Israel by her Arab neighbors on the holiest day of the Jewish year, Yom Kippur. Following the war, Prime Minister Golda Meir, Defense Minister Moshe Dayan and other senior leaders were forced to resign in disgrace. Join Uri Kaufman, author of the new book Eighteen Days in October: The Yom Kippur War and How It Created the Modern Middle East, for a conversation about the war and how it set the stage for future peace negotiations; how the Yom Kippur War gave birth to the religious-Zionist settler movement; and why history has not always been kind to Israel’s first and only female prime minister. In conversation with former CBS News correspondent and Moment contributor Dan Raviv.

Very interesting summary of Yom Kippur War…but at 41minutes into this video, made on 9/28/23, just 9 days prior to OCTOBER 7, much optimism is expressed. Subsequently, there is a discussion about internal dissent in Israel which has continued until now, 9/3/24. Historians are better at looking backwards than forwards in time apparently.
