It's not just that, people don't understand how huge of a technical feat this game was. No. Loading. Screens. The only load screen you get is when you start game and that's it. Seamless gameplay from the beginning to the end.
The most important thing about this game that propels it to a hidden gem territory is the way it handles atmosphere. The camera, the fog, the no loading, the scenery, the sound fx and the music make it so memorable, in terms of atmosphere.
I love the Diablo games and their procedurally generated worlds, but having a static and purposefully designed world without loading screens allows Dungeon Siege makes it feel like a genuine journey
This definitely was the best of the series, and also one of the best ARPGs of all time for me. Watching this short video, even if it only includes the first few areas, it does brings back fond memories.
I think Dungeon siege 1 definitely holds a special place in my heart but the expansion "legends of Aranna" and Dungeon Siege 2 made a lot of improvements upon the formula. I grew up playing these games and they are great! I was surprised to hear that he said Dungeon Siege 3 was his favorite
@@nicholasabraham259 No surprise there. He just kept referring to the game as 'old' without mentioning much why it was so beloved and different back then to begin with. DS3 looks far better and is a lot more action oriented. If you didn't start off with DS1 or 2 and love them, and like more straightforward Diablo style games wrapped in console trappings, then DS3 could be a great game to you.

I hate when I see gameplays from the crypt and they miss so many hidden rooms over there! Believe me - back in the 2000's I only had a demo of this. It was the beginning of the game up to the tower behind the stonebridge (the first town you encounter). I replayed the demo it so many times I knew almost all the secrets. Usually the secrets reveal themselves when I decided to come back to the farm from StoneBridge. Going back You see all the hidden levers and buttons, which were usually at your back/behind You. And there are a few secret rooms in the first crypt. Just pay attention to the walls and surroundings around You! Take care my fellow players!
funny enough I remember replaying the games as I got older and coming back and noticing hidden rooms and things i missed in my first playthroughs. What a cool experience that is! These games are timeless imo
I played this with as an 11 year old my dad and my 7 year old sister. We had three computers in three rooms joined with ethernet running along the upstairs landing! 😊😊😊 Good times
Just a note for you: the multiplayer map is a far better map, but you have to unlock it (if you use the Killah Fix that's an easy way to do it). It's got far more capacity for exploration- in the single player map there's occasional hidden bits but it's largely a straight line. The multiplayer map absolutely is not. You start in the middle of the world and each town has links to other towns, but also has links to the first one (some more well-hidden than the others). Of course, the multiplayer is better when playing with others, but it takes a lot of fiddling to get it working since they yeeted the servers.
@@pointlessspike3016 after replaying the utrae map several times i keep finding secret areas and secret routes that i had no idea existed, especially when playing it with friends as we'd split off from one another and explore
I grew up playing Dungeon Siege and Diablo... And I'm actually currently streaming my return to the Dungeon Siege series. And wow, the nostalgia. There's so many features in this game that put other similar games from this era to shame. Dungeon Siege 1, especially on steam, benefits a lot from some quality of life mods if anyone is looking to play. The Steam version doesn't have the DLC/expansion or multiplayer enabled for some reason, but you can enable it. There is also a higher resolution texture pack mod and some higher resolutions mods that I feel are a must have. I would also recommend the see far mod to increase distance of fog.
