It's about who is the last one standing though, and not who got the most kills. Prioritizing PvE over PvP isn't any less legitimate than going for the kills. It's literally the same in every other Battle Royale.
I mean it's not a death match, kills help but you gotta survive as well and play smart to achieve that. Especially in game 6 they had a chance to win it all, just needed to play it smart because everyone would gang up on any of the top 3 teams, so they needed to play a lot more defensively, but they kept playing like normal attacking people and it got them killed fast.

@@levivass I don't see where the backseating or hindsight comes in, even the stream hosts were telling them BEFORE the match all the other teams were obviously going to focus on killing them (and the other two teams) in game 6. And it's just common sense, that's how it's going to play out. But when the match started, they just didn't seem to take that information into consideration at all. They just played like normal. And AFTER they died, they in turn went to spectate the #2 and #3 teams, #2 team got quickly ganged up on as well, then they were looking at #3 and COMPLAINING why other teams seemed to be ignoring them at first when "it's the only team that matters". So they had all the knowledge prior to the match of how it was going to play out, they just didn't utilize that knowledge at all in their gameplay, IE they played very poorly.

You can't keep doing what you've been doing. You need to play game 6 completely differently to the other games. Xaryu again says "on this next game, we gotta watch out for the top 3, make sure we come #1, that's about it", so he is just focusing on top 3, completely ignoring the fact that what they most need to watch out for is 27 TEAMS coming for them. 1:27:20 Pikaboo says "I guess we gotta lock in, I guess everyone is gunning for us, they don't want us to take home that 50k", ok finally some common sense being said out loud, at least they acknowledge they possess this knowledge before the game, so can't claim ignorance afterwards. But do they actually follow this strat? No. 1:32:45 the crucial moment. They see two teams fighting each other. What do they do? The smart thing, and not engage two teams which will instantly ignore each other and instead focus THEM? No, they go in guns blazing as usual. I mean, if the tournament was pro players against pro players only, I could get the feeling. But the format was clear since the beginning, yes they did amazing, the streams / yt videos from pika were soooo entertaining while being impressive, but they were against a bunch of streamers, people from other parts of the world with higher ping etc.
For those with questions about the format. This is apparently a pretty standard BR format. If the format wasn't like this, the bottom 25 teams would have essentially no reason to play the game after round 4. And it adds to the excitement for the average viewer, since their favorite streamer always has a chance to win, so viewership stays higher up to the end. I don't like the results either, Xar and Pika were definitely the best players that day, but this format is common in BRs because it drives player and viewer engagement until the end.
Yeah, this format is a result of realising that esports basically only survive if you can make it watchable. Having it work this way ensures everyone still has a horse in the race but most importantly, the winner is determined by actually winning the last game of the tournament, which keeps the tension.

And the more interest there is for a tournament the more money is to be made by sponsors, or in this case, more people watch your promotional event for longer. Also it doesn't mean the previous games mean nothing. Better performance in the first rounds allows for the chance to win the tournament when others can't yet. It is the best system for something as random as Battle Royales.
Loved the tourney, it was great fun to watch and you 2 were amazing as always. I get why some people aren’t happy with the outcome, I do think it felt weird to see a team with a huge point lead, and who individually had more kills than the next best team had combined, lose. If they do this again, and I hope they do, and want the final match winner to be the overall winner they should definitely have an equal reward for the top overall points team.

BRs tend to have formats like this because otherwise teams who are out of it after the first few matches grief the lobby. This way you can always win so all the teams keep trying.

Format that punishes winners is silly... I understand they do it to max engagement and viewership, and alt format that maintains this could be something like: Prize pool is split 50%/30%/20% across top 3.... Play is over a fixed number of rounds, let's say 8 rounds.... end of 8 rounds, places 1 and 2 are determined based on points and 3rd place is determined by winner of last round, if it's won by either 1 or 2 then it goes to the points board. This rewards good play and offers a route to the money to everyone all the way to the end.

"10k is a lot" yeah its like 1/4 of a react video! Jokes aside I'm sure most of these content creators weren't in it for the money, but the exposure is huge on a platform like this and it looked like they had a blast.
First 5 games all mattered to get into top 3, in game 6 if any of the top 3 won the match, they would've won the tournament. So they could've won it all in game 6, but they played that crucial game very badly and threw it all away. In game 7 it was opened up to any of the top 10 to win the match and win the tournament. Again, they had another shot to win it all but made a lot of mistakes in that crucial game and #9 team won the match, and therefore the tournament. If none of the top 10 won, game 8 would've been free-for-all for any team to win. So TLDR, game 6 was their best chance to win it all and they played their worst game in that match.
There are clearly better rules/scoring that can be implemented. Killing other players needs to matter. Pika/Xar has a staggering amount more than any other team. Putting yourself in situations more often to be eliminated should be rewarded. Standing around and doing nothing while other teams kill each other off isn't a show of skill.
No, it's not a death match where most kills win. Surviving is a crucial part of it, and they weren't very good at playing things smart when it mattered.

Wait for others to kills each other while trying to avoid any attack is very lame and if you add to that hiding in some building beeing lvl 4 or 5 while everyone gets to level 8,9 or 10 is just stupid. This players which are on the end of circle still level 4 or 5 didnt even do PVE. This level you can manage in first 2 - 3 min of the game. So there should be deffinatelly some better scoring implemented.

But the point of the scoring for the first 5 games was just to get enough points to be in top 3, and yes they were rewarded for the kills because they were easily #1. Then if you are one of the top 3, you have a chance to win in game 6. However there is more to the game mode than just being good at killing. You also need to use your brain and have a smart strategy about how you go about doing the killing. One might say they overdid the killing, and painted a big target on their own backs for game 6, ensuring everyone would focus on killing them. If they were on the Survivor island, they would've been the first to be voted out.

You can jab your way to victory but it does not count how many times you hit your opponent if you are knocked out by a single right hook. Xaryu and Pika are pvp legends, they killed their path to victory but this was not an arena. That was their mistake

BRs tend to have formats like this because otherwise teams who are out of it after the first few matches grief the lobby. This way you can always win so all the teams keep trying.

Format that punishes winners is silly... I understand they do it to max engagement and viewership, and alt format that maintains this could be something like: Prize pool is split 50%/30%/20% across top 3.... Play is over a fixed number of rounds, let's say 8 rounds.... end of 8 rounds, places 1 and 2 are determined based on points and 3rd place is determined by winner of last round, if it's won by either 1 or 2 then it goes to the points board. This rewards good play and offers a route to the money to everyone all the way to the end.

I dont really understand the point of the first 5 matches if you can just come in on the 6th or 7th match, whatever it was and get first place and win the whole tourney? It makes the placements and the elims just mean nothing but 2nd place which is so dumb its insane

A? How did you lose with those stats? You won on every one but placement points? All the other games didn't matter just the last one?
First 5 games all mattered to get into top 3, in game 6 if any of the top 3 won the match, they would've won the tournament. So they could've won it all in game 6, but they played that crucial game very badly and threw it all away. In game 7 it was opened up to any of the top 10 to win the match and win the tournament. Again, they had another shot to win it all but made a lot of mistakes in that crucial game and #9 team won the match, and therefore the tournament. If none of the top 10 won, game 8 would've been free-for-all for any team to win. So TLDR, game 6 was their best chance to win it all and they played their worst game in that match.

There are clearly better rules/scoring that can be implemented. Killing other players needs to matter. Pika/Xar has a staggering amount more than any other team. Putting yourself in situations more often to be eliminated should be rewarded. Standing around and doing nothing while other teams kill each other off isn't a show of skill.
No, it's not a death match where most kills win. Surviving is a crucial part of it, and they weren't very good at playing things smart when it mattered.
@@dominantprime but the point is to surviving while playing it. Where is surviving aspect by going into some tower and wait till end. IF every single team would do that, would you watch it? no way. It would be boring as hell and stupid as well. you dont need to kill whole lobby all 59 players to win. Yes that would be death match then. But you need to play and you need to be the best to not only survive but also kill everyone in order to be the last one. Wait for others to kills each other while trying to avoid any attack is very lame and if you add to that hiding in some building beeing lvl 4 or 5 while everyone gets to level 8,9 or 10 is just stupid. This players which are on the end of circle still level 4 or 5 didnt even do PVE. This level you can manage in first 2 - 3 min of the game. So there should be deffinatelly some better scoring implemented.
@@patriksavulic1697 yes, the goal should be to do just enough battle to be a high enough level in the end. If you do nothing, you will just die instantly at the end. But the point of the scoring for the first 5 games was just to get enough points to be in top 3, and yes they were rewarded for the kills because they were easily #1. Then if you are one of the top 3, you have a chance to win in game 6. However there is more to the game mode than just being good at killing. You also need to use your brain and have a smart strategy about how you go about doing the killing. One might say they overdid the killing, and painted a big target on their own backs for game 6, ensuring everyone would focus on killing them. If they were on the Survivor island, they would've been the first to be voted out.

But the only stategy they needed to use would be dont play that last match, just level up and wait and hide and in the final circle, show up and kill everybody which they easily could do as killing is their strongest weapon. But then once again it would be lame and boring. From all games in overall ,they had just best stats, best games. So should be just real winners. I cant imagine to win any tournament by not beeging the best in the game but having luck and using the weird scoring system. Yes it was clear what are the rules at beggining even that both Xaryu and pikaboo looked pretty confused anyway by that at first. So they could have just choose other strategy. I think it doesnt matter if they won or not, they still have some cash by beeing second and lets be honest, 25K for first place is just a 3 - 4 ads for this streamers so it is not about the money. And there were no trophy or something like that as it was first tournament. But if they would come with another tournament it in future, this scoring is really needed to be change. We could have seen in this tournamnet that even if it woudnt be them dominating, people like Trill and others showed their skills as well, they are just good in that game. Cant compare them to people like Guzu even that I like him as streamer a lot, he is nowhere near beeging good in this game therefore I cant even imagine he would win it. Me as his oponent in tournament, I would feel so bad that someone who is not even good can win over me. The easiest would be to settle specific number of rounds and stay with this scoring as it was for first 5 rounds. and whoever comes the best from this lets say 7 games is just the best due there as they managed the best points. Simple.The most funny thing would be if all 5 games they would win every single match and then in number 6 they would have just the worst possible landing, all players on them, they would die first and then lost whole tournament to someone who was way bellow in points to them. @@patriksavulic1697 no, that system would suck for both keeping the interest of viewers and most of the teams. The whole point of the scoring is to keep the game open for all the teams, theoretically there is a chance for every team to win, however slight, to the very end. If you are in top 3 or top 10, you have the strongest chance to win (depending on how smart you play it), but no one is left out so it keeps it interesting for everyone until the end. The system you suggest, after a few games most of the teams would have no chance of winning anymore so there is no point for them to even play, and most likely, like in this case, one team would have enough points to be way ahead so the winner is just clear. Immediate loss of interest for both viewers and players. No good at all. Once again, just getting kills is not enough, and should not be enough. You also have to use your brain. If you are not able to use your brain, you do not have the required skill set to win. And I very much disagree with "just level up and wait and hide and in the final circle, show up and kill everybody" being the only strategy in game 6. They can play quite normally, BUT only attack teams one at a time. If they are so confident they can kill any team, do it, but only when they see one player or two players separated from others. If there's two teams fighting, or two teams close to each other, it is not smart to attack because those two teams will both gang up on the top 3 team. Sometimes you might have to retreat to stay alive. In the final circle it will get even more dangerous for them and they will have to bring out the most 5head strat possible, but even then, it will just come down to some amount of RNG of how it plays out, and that is how it should be. And no I do not agree that the example you describe is "nonsense". It is exactly how it should be. Points do not grant you a guarantee of a win. In game 6, any one of the top 3 teams can win, if they win the match. If you are #1 in the boards and you happen to die first, then #2 or #3 wins, well too bad. That's how it is sometimes. Sometimes you get bad cards at poker and you lose. It is what it is.

tournament layout is kinda weird in a battle royale. other players can see your names from a mile away, and everyone is incentivized to go for the top dawgs. flying too close to the sun actually hurts you here, better off just laying low and staying fringe top 5, which is kind of a lame incentive to be giving people. idk.
