My Review of Maharaja in few lines(spoilers ahead!) - Vijay sethupathi acting peaks. First half was so enthralling and engaging. I was clapping by the interval scene. Script was so bad in second half because everything happens in a very convenient manner. Bad people/cops suddenly have a change of heart. The Villain gets caught so easily. Even the reveal at the end seems so conveniently written that you'll wonder if the same director has made the first half. The same screenwriting which took to whole another level by the interval brings it down to ground in the second half. Sethupathi is a gem! Watch it only for him

Telugu film actors like to do more commercial oriented movies and there is nothing wrong but you also have to take into consideration that Tamil movie directors are probably the reason for the Tamil actors growth. You need good directors, good stories and an audience that accepts and appreciates. Take Surya for instance, during his initial few movies, he was quite frankly below average, nothing special, but as he worked in movies directed by Bala, Gautham Menon, Ameer etc. he blossomed to become a fine actor. In Telugu too, there are actors who can perform very well but they are largely confined to regular formulaic movies because one the directors and story writers keep bringing them such stories and two when any attempts they make to work on a say less treaded path ends up being a failure, they are even less likely to experiment. In other words, someone like say Mahesh Babu may be more inclined to do Guntur Karam than a One Nenuokkadine precisely because a formulaic movie on the surface at least seems to have a minimum guarantee while an experiment seems risky. That’s why Kamal Hasaan once rightly said as important it is for the audience to appreciate good movies, it is equally important for them to outright reject and crush bad movies. Also when it comes to Telugu audience, they can get their main course (spicy masala biriyani) from their Telugu star heroes and get their desserts and other soft meals from other language movies because Telugu audience is one of the most if NOT the most welcoming audience that watch all types of dubbed movies from a wide variety of languages.

Telugu film actors like to do more commercial oriented movies and there is nothing wrong but you also have to take into consideration that Tamil movie directors are probably the reason for the Tamil actors growth. You need good directors, good stories and an audience that accepts and appreciates.
Take Surya for instance, during his initial few movies, he was quite frankly below average, nothing special, but as he worked in movies directed by Bala, Gautham Menon, Ameer etc. he blossomed to become a fine actor.
In Telugu too, there are actors who can perform very well but they are largely confined to regular formulaic movies because one the directors and story writers keep bringing them such stories and two when any attempts they make to work on a say less treaded path ends up being a failure, they are even less likely to experiment.
In other words, someone like say Mahesh Babu may be more inclined to do Guntur Karam than a One Nenuokkadine precisely because a formulaic movie on the surface at least seems to have a minimum guarantee while an experiment seems risky.
That’s why Kamal Hasaan once rightly said as important it is for the audience to appreciate good movies, it is equally important for them to outright reject and crush bad movies.
Also when it comes to Telugu audience, they can get their main course (spicy masala biriyani) from their Telugu star heroes and get their desserts and other soft meals from other language movies because Telugu audience is one of the most if NOT the most welcoming audience that watch all types of dubbed movies from a wide variety of languages.
