Nice comfortable ride every moment in ones comfort zone. No unexpected surprises as every contingency was catered for before it could possibly happened and then it didn't happen and that's the way to do it. Plan for the unexpected and that's the only way to be safe. Negate any danger before it becomes a danger. Knowledge, training and experience means that you will always be safe all the time. Nice video. Good ride, no danger, nice weather and good buddie. Got home safe and well with a smile on ones face, what else can any rider want. Great days. Keep it up for every ones benefit.

@@RoadcraftNottingham We are both after the same thing and that is the safety of motorcyclists on our roads and both work towards that end. You teach and make videos to spread the word and I make comment on them. Sometimes positively and sometimes less so, but we both aim for the same end result.... fewer deaths and serious injuries to our buddies.
Brilliant, calm, clear instruction. Being able to ride a motorcycle competently is one thing; being able to communicate that skill to others in a way that is easy to understand is another.

I love the purr of the V4 engine on the pan, I've had mine for nearly 3 years and I don't think I'll ever change it.

These are some of my favourite roads around Nottingham, great to see you do a demonstration ride on them!
Quality instruction for free, beautifully articulates how mentally sharp you need to be all the time you straddle a motorcycle.
I'm still learning (CBT and Mod 1 completed) but what I love about riding is how methodical it is, the calm relaxed observation, forward planning and prediction coupled with performing actions in a set order. You are a master of this. Thanks for your videos.

I tell you what I think... You are the ONLY person on youtube that I seriously considered visiting for a lesson or two, even if I'm living at the other end of Europe, driving on the right side of the road. I learned so much from your videos, I can't say thank you enough!

I passed my Mod2 last year (had a couple of amazing instructors on my DAS) but watching your videos helped me massively both before and during my lessons. I obviously still watch now as you never stop learning, so for that a huge thankyou.

Interesting vid. Got lucky in 1981, turned up for my bike test with no formal training and passed on my L plated RD250LC. Think at the time I would have benefited from this type of training, it was for the best that bike tests got harder. Thanks for posting.

Great example to most, if not all. Watching this highlights all of the issues with my riding in urban areas. Would love to see some more out of town instruction too.

As both a driver and a rider I’m so happy you tap your brakes to show the difference between on and off ... without a centre brake light they’re sometimes really difficult to see

Russ is instructing for the DVSA Test, you'll get marked down for extreme positioning unlike Advanced tests. :)

Textbook. Interesting that your riding and commentary is sufficient for an Advanced Riding test, let alone a Mod 2 test.

Not long done my cbt and every video i watch from you i take a little away from. Some of it is above my skill and automomy level currently but it will come. Thats for posting such helpful videos they are likely lifesavers (pun intended).

Your videos helped refresh a lot, I've not been on a bike since passing 5 year ago and got hold of a 96' cbr recently. It was a bit of a shock as I learned on a roadster? type bike, something like a hornet. I remember the real need to counter steer to get that thing round a corner.. but the cbr almost does it on it's own. I find myself mostly gently leaning in and actually applying pressure on the bar to stop the bikes want to kinda naturally counter steer, dunno if that makes sense. It's surprisingly very comparable to riding a racer peddle bike, I guess they have similar centre of gravity and so.
I wish my gear changing was that smooth. Good video.

I think you should indicate even if no one else is around so that you keep in the habit and do it subconsciously
Nick, that’s not regarded too well anymore, if there’s no one there, it benefits no one, you may leave it on, and the distraction isn’t warranted. Advanced training, IAM etc, says don’t. Just saying. Yep it’s a habit, but unnecessary., same as going round a roundabout if you can take a straighter line, not a mini roundabout where you can’t cut it obviously.
If you make sure whether you need to signal or not your observations will generally be better.
Chris Boulton yeah but you should still signal as it reinforces the habit plus you may not have observed someone. Even people in front of you can benefit from you indicating
Nick Monrad better you make a judgement call if you need to indicate, reinforces a better habit of better observations rather than a muscle memory of just indicate.

You can not only not obtain a full 360 observation of every other road user who might need to be aware of your intentions, but you can't guarantee you've checked every one either.
So it's always good practice to advertise your intentions in all situations. And I'm not talking about "getting into the habit here. I'm only talking about showing consideration forctgebitger guy - the one you have no idea might be there.
Signals are very important. Assuming is what's dangerous.

I have been riding for 35 years on the road and off road, and still learn new things....when at a junction that has a car waiting for you to pass, you don't know 100% sure that they have seen you, so look at their front wheel and see if is rotating, this is a key giveaway if they have seen you.

You should put in for your test Russ - I reckon you'd pass it now and get rid of those L Plates - hope all is good with you - enjoy the sunshine and hopefully next time I ride up to Yorkshire I can wing in and test your coffee on the way back down - Bennetts got their timing a bit adrift when they did my last service and it was too late to catch you :-)

I'm going to be doing my A license in 2020. I'm only in Leicester. So think I'll try and do it with you lot. Already got the car license. Don't see the point in repeating tests for different classes, so will just wait until I'm 24.

the difference between you and some other tutors is you don't berate or judge students! at least not while filming! (arguably) unless they put life at risk (more arguably, especially someone else's life? ) but remain reasonably and constructively critical about errors! really good teaching aid, if I was on my test and was taking it down a road with an advisory 20mph sign what would be best to do? thank you ride safe!

I found it hard to see where the change in speed limit signs were on my MOD2. I was going though Croydon and Mitcham which was 20 and then 30 and then back again. I got a minor for inappropriate use of speed, though I was concentrating on everything else! Got another minor for leaving an indicator on too long after a turn. Thankfully that was it and I passed.

Anyhow, I believe during my first lesson, my instructor was about as chatty as you were in this video. It was absurdly difficult to follow and comply because all those new instructions needed to be processed and converted into action consciously, and I wished he'd just shut up for a moment; only with time it became natural, comprehending the now familiar instructions started to happen all on its own, and a lot more "mental processing power" remained available to riding and doing the right things.
Because of your videos I got an st1100. It's a terrible motorbike! In 2 weeks time I made about 2k kilometres and can't stop. I feel myself like a kid again 😂
Hi. I have a few questions about the Riderscan. Is it possible to mount it to bikes that don't have a screen? My bike has a digital display, and I'm thinking if the stickies can be rotated downwards over 90* then I should be able to stick it on. But I'm not sure. Do you know if it will work? Thx
