It's rather unfortunate that 62 years after independence from Britain Nigerian politicians and heads of institutions still have to travel to Britain to attend Chatham House for the world to hear and form an opinion about their respective abilities to govern or conduct credible elections.
How many times has the British David Cameron, Tony Blair, Boris Johnson, Liz Truss or Rishi Sunak, or the Americans George Bush, Barack Obama or even Donald Trump who rightly or wrongly called Nigeria a shit hole country; come to the National Institute of Policy and Strategic Studies, Jos, or the Nigerian Institute of International Affairs, Lagos, to tell us their political agendas for us to assess their credibility or otherwise. When shall Nigeria stop being a toddler in the committee of nations; a baby at 62? Can't the international community hear what the Nigerian presidential candidates and INEC have to say if they speak from home?
Is it wise to spend huge resources and time just to speak in a building with a name that should have been as routine as any of the citadels of learning in Nigeria, had it not been promoted both on and offline by a most unreasonable brigade of Nigerians who like showing off or get swayed to join the fray.
