A fellow coworker told me, he was in Chile with his wife visiting her parents at home during the 8.0 earthquake. They watched in disbelief how the house's pool was literally drained of its water due to the immense shaking. It looked, he told me: "as if the pool catched hurricane winds with waves almost 10 feet tall. It lasted only for 2 minutes", he recounted; "when we checked inside the pool, it was maybe 14 inches or so of depth instead of the usual 9 feet. We were utterly shocked, absolutely baffled". Personally, I've never being in an earthquake, I can't picture that level of power in my mind. It must be a horrific ordeal to be in for sure.

Having experienced earthquake violence happened in our city of Christchurch in 2010 then suffer various household damages that continue to disrupt as many after-shocks had put an enormous strain, stress and anxiety particularly with the younger generation they were easily frightened as the strain in overcoming the ordeal created health problems among the children

Problem is, it was hit by an Earthquake, then a Tidal Wave. It's a wonder that thing is still standing.

The US has the New Madrid Seismic Zone just west of the Appalachias, the San Andreas fault in CA, the Cascadia Subduction zone from N. CA to Canada, the many Alaskan faults and the Yosemite caldera. We're sitting ducks for a major disaster and it'll happen sometime for sure.

Why don't companies in these earthquake prone areas insure that all their cabinetry and electronic equipment is strapped down so that it won't all fall over during a quake? Should be relatively simple.

Mister Morty cause it would get very annoying always having to unstrap things to get them down and not very often they would get really powerful earthquakes to even worry about strapping everything down and stuff

a lot of people from the east don't freak out much.. ..-40 to me means colder ,denser air for my snowmobile and polar bears can access food easier.... it really scares some people that aren't used to it, as an earthquake would scare me.

ok so this is an earthquake prone area. Ok now that we have established that let's balance most things precariously on the top of cupboards so that when the earthquake strikes they can all fall on our heads!

Live Good Be happy next time speak proper English. You would be tough too if you encounter as many earthquakes as they do. They haven't got heaps to worry about with building collapses too because all their buildings are incredibly flexible and are able to withstand massive earthquakes so they don't really have to worry about anything falling on them

Natural calmnity cannot be avoided. Why Japan try to stir up the Third World War. Did not they get a lesson. Why areThey so cruel. American and British in Potsdam declaration mentioned that Japan is not allow to rearm and notAllow to go beyond their four islands. What happened to that declaration?
