I'm white and in my humble opinion, yes, white folks CAN have an opinion on black culture, but their (our) opinions shouldn't be taken that seriously. I'm from Bulgaria, if someone from the USA right now commented about what in their opinion must happen so the country progresses forward, I would respect their opinion and if it's good, try to learn something from it. But most of the times, it's the same gibberish. You simply haven't lived in here long enough to know. So yes, have an opinion, that's why it's an opinion. It doesn't need to be factually correct. No one truly understands what music is, what sound is and every delicate detail about it, yet we still have opinions on it. But be aware that your opinion doesn't hold much weight.
In short: Yes, you can have an opinion but no one gives a shmuck about it.
Damn, I said that like a genius...

You don't need to make excuses for being interested in rap. No other culture on earth gatekeeps and claims things which barely belong to them like black Americans do. They did this when someone referred to the fade as the "Travis Kelche haircut" by claiming the fade haircut was black when it originated in the predominantly white US military of the 40's and only got picked up by black Americans in the 80's. It ultimately comes from fragility and underlying acknowledgement that they have nothing else except rap music and a beef involving a guy with a white mom, enjoy what you enjoy and don't let the most privileged, ignorant, under-achievers in the world tell you any different.

Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, with its roots in blues and ragtime. Since the 1920s Jazz Age, it has been recognized as a major form of musical expression in traditional and popular music.

Anybody can have an opinion. That doesn’t mean it’s going to be valued.
The very origins of rap are rooted in Black struggle and storytelling.
That’s an incredibly unique experience that can only be interpreted by the descendants of slaves.
Our ability to tell of our pain and overcoming is a soul-bound art that can never be tapped into no matter how many rap video essays people make. It’s FUBU and it always will be.
Most whites are passive rap fans anyway and usually lock in on popular artists.
For the very few that have eclectic rap knowledge; they MIGHT have a valued opinion, but even then it, isn’t guaranteed.

I’m white and yes, I think everyone’s opinion matters. It’s called Freedom of Speech. Can black people have opinions on Latino culture? Can Latinos have opinions on Chinese culture? Can the Chinese have opinions on English culture? And so on and so forth.
However, Freedom of Speech isn’t the right to force people to agree with opinions. Just because someone has an opinion doesn’t mean you need to agree with it. That’s just how opinions work.
That being said, as a white man, I see Hip-Hop and Rap as a way to sit back, look, hear, try to understand and empathize with black opinions and black culture. Music talks and is a universal way to speak and broadcast feelings in ways that words alone can’t express.
Like with most things in life, I try to judge the content of a person’s character while understanding race and upbringing heavily influenced that person’s current character. No matter what, every culture will have some things we all overlap with and mutually agree are good for us all as people.
That being said, I hear and understand a lot of anger from black folks when it comes to Drake and vulture-ing. I see the anger over some Canadian dude that just came over to America and acted like he’s been part of American Black Culture since day 1 for fame and money.
Anyone with working eyes can see that’s just not the case. He’s pretending and making money off of a culture he just wasn’t part of. That’s fucked up. It’s cultural fraud. He was a child actor. He didn’t have to struggle for shit and yet he pretends he did. And I can completely understand how pissed that makes people.
The content of Drake’s raps in this battle have been superficial at best and it’s plain to see that he’s not a good person, I think most cultures would agree, if you have a child, you should parent them and make them part of your life.
It is beyond repulsive to speak with underaged people in the way Drake does.
Fucking over and using people on his record label, stealing their talented work.
Excessive and reckless spending of wealth.
Ignoring the mothers of his children for escort services and pitching tantrums when women he wants won’t be with him.
I get why Kendrick hates Drake. I look at Kendrick and see a proud, moral, intelligent, and perceptive man. I look at Drake and I don’t like what I see. If they were both white, I’d still have the same opinion. We see the same type of negative behavior in white people too, and it pisses me off when I hear about it and see it.
Kendrick takes care of his people, wrote a whole fucking album owning up to the mistakes he made in his life, and is literally showing Drake how to be a better man.
Kendrick’s a present and caring father, unlike Drake. Kendrick doesn’t endanger young people for his own gratification. He’s reasonable with his wealth. He doesn’t fuck around on his wife.
And Kendrick’s the genuine article when it comes to American Black Culture.
I respect Kendrick for doing what we all need to do more of within all our cultures and that’s check the fuck out of downright awful behavior done by bad people.
And genuinely, it’s cathartic as fuck hearing a good man just absolutely destroy another dude who’s fucking up and has the audacity to act like he’s not.
And all of that is just my opinion. If you agree, great. If you disagree and If my opinion doesn’t matter to you, that’s your right and more power to you for it.

      @scubasteve6175 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

You need a hundred thousand fucking likes for this take. And even though kendrick has made many mistakes and it's true he abused his wife he takes accountability for it and even talked about it in songs on mr morale and got therapy. I see a genuine person as well. Maybe not a role model 100% of the time, but a strong and influential individual doing their best to make it positive

      😂😂

    • @cmyskinsfan
      @cmyskinsfan 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

I’m sorry but I have to call bs on some of these points…
For one, not every opinion matters. I could give you my opinion on brain surgery but it means nothing compared to a brain surgeons opinion. Having an opinion on someone else’s culture is the same thing. You are free to say or think whatever you’d like, but if you haven’t experienced or studied that culture your opinion is worth nothing. Too many people forget this and become obstinate or uneducable.
Second, Drake is not a culture vulture simply for making hip hop. There are plenty of rappers from all over the world and nobody is criticizing them the same way they criticize Drake. Drake never once claimed to be from America or the streets. Why are we criticizing him as though he did? Most of his career he was considered too soft for hip hop. He sang too much, rapped about his feelings, painted his nails, and was always declaring his love for one woman or another. Now all of a sudden people act like he’s trying to be gangster? Make it make sense.
People don’t like Drake because he broke the mold of what hip hop can sound like. He has his own unique style and has been influential to the hip hop game for years. He’s a culture contributor, not a culture vulture. He still has influences but so does every artist. It’s not fair to say because he uses other artists and genres for inspiration that he is stealing. Unless someone has never listened to music before they are influenced by other artists.
The accusations against Drake are also questionable. No woman or child has ever accused Drake of being sexually inappropriate with them. There is no evidence either. Yet people jump to the conclusions because they don’t like Drake. Millie and Billie are child stars and so was Drake. It is not out of the question that he was simply giving them industry fame as someone who has been in their unique position before. We shouldn’t assume otherwise without evidence because a) someone should be innocent until proven guilty and b) accusing Drake of being sexual with these girls when they insist he wasnt sexualizes these young girls.
Also, there is no evidence that Drake has been an absentee father. He didn’t announce to the world when his son was born but that doesn’t mean he wasn’t in his life. Kendrick doesn’t live with his kids anymore yet he’s a great father? Kendrick also makes songs with future who has his picture in the dictionary next to deadbeat dad yet we’re supposed to believe he’s driven by morality? He’s as opportunistic as anyone else.
Hating Drake is in style now so all criticisms against him are sticking. There are politics within the black community as play here as well that are working against Drake. But we should not be so overzealous in tearing down one of the most successful black artists ever that we fail to think critically or just believe every narrative we hear.

@@cmyskinsfan Drake didn't claim his son until a week after when he found out it was actually his. 99% of the people in the world listening to hip hop does not know the history of it. The opinion on our culture makes us lash out at times because its people who will tell us we dont have a culture. The fact that we have to even explain our differences between us and Africans just further goes with the generalization of races in America. Very seldomly do we get to keep our culturistic creations and get the respect we deserve. It took over 20 years for them to accept hip hop. It isn't all yt people who can't speak on it but it's like me speaking on Mormons just because i go to their church from time to time.

Name one time when Cole said he wanted to beef with people. The only time he mentioned beef was on middle child when he specifically said if he’s gonna diss somebody it’s gonna be legit. If he doesn’t have actual beef with Kendrick and just got caught up in the hype. Why would he get involved in that? Y’all just want drama for entertainment and are now putting that on him.

He also included drake who wouldn’t be in it if it wasn’t for Cole’s co-sign having that much influence. FOH.

I’m black. Idc too much about this beef, but pretty much everyone has an opinion on everyone’s culture, people are allowed to have that opinion so long as it’s not hateful of the biogical identity, and maybe know what they are talking about with that culture.
Even then, some black people may meme on country music regardles of if they listen to it, or joke that white culture don’t know how to season food.
Plus, isn’t their more to black culture than rap music, than two rappers talking crap about each other while getting huge bucks for it, with one black rapper saying the other black rapper isn’t black or some bs. People will comment regardless about these two having issues with each other, but these two are not our entire black culture.

However, I can understand why my opinion may be thrown out as well, so I just keep it respectful

Yeah it’s nothing to us. We would ask who are you? We’re learning gatekeeping.
Our feelings aren’t hurt if it’s the other way around. But then again our music genres has been gentrified since before jazz and everything else. We walked away from those pretty much So we want to keep something for our ppl.

@@ActuallyJustB Jazz was created using European music theory, taught to black American slaves by white Americans who originally immigrated from Europe, using European instruments, inspired by genres like blues and ragtime which were directly inspired by European genres like marching music, working music and European Christian hymns. Literally, nothing "black" about jazz as soon as you get beyond the fact that black people enjoyed how it sounded so played it more and that was how it spread to the wider white community, it's American.
