Ami, all I can say is, "Thank-you." This was a the way my children and I have reacted under the same circumstances. As a widow, I had to try to act brave, but the hosing down of one bug with the bug spray revealed my emotional state. It was a rare occurrence, I think that accounted for the dramatic reaction.
