She is a dark contralto up to mezzo soprano. Also, she's has polyphony. Meaning she's bringing in another voice at will when it's required. You can hear it being used in this performance. Flat tongue technique , with a wide gap means she can belt it out as powerful as someone like Celine Dion. Now, did you know she's only 15 years old on this show. Also you will see a judge standing up with his hands held up as if praying. He's a top Russian Opera Singer & he's just heard an angel. He explains afterwards on his comments that in all of his musical career at the top, he's never heard such a voice, he's in awe. She's now 21 with a 4 octave range. Check out her output, it's prodigious.

I just wanted to say this is one of the best reactions to this performance I’ve seen. This live rendition was also the very first time I had ever heard her sing. In point of fact, it was only a quick TH-cam short that I clicked on out of curiosity. And while I don’t know what my facial expression was when I heard her belt like that, I imagine it was in the same ball park. Diana became my favorite female vocalist of all time very quickly. And I have not stopped enjoying her amazing notes since.

She is a Contralto, a dramatic Contralto at that, you will get to know her the more you listen from her and oh boy if you think this is something then she has a lot from where this came from and way way more.
She has won over 50 vocal competitions actually to the point that they begun to ban her straight up so that others might have a chance on winning.
I could make a list with a 100 recommendations but you just HAVE to listen to her newest release called "Baikal" it is out of this world like her.

She was 18 when she did this performance of Can't Help Falling In Love.
You have to watch her performance of Rechenka back when she was 14. You will hardly believe what she does, and it is her first masterpiece and until today one of her best performances, hardly matched by anything else. You will feel like out in the wilderness in ancient times, and Diana sounds like Mother Earth herself.

We're intrigued by your description of feeling transported to ancient times and hearing Diana's voice likened to Mother Earth herself. It's remarkable to think that such a young talent could deliver such a powerful and evocative performance. We'll definitely make sure to watch it and experience the magic firsthand. This is the best cover of this song. She's just robbed Elvis and I think he's got tears of happiness during her performance.
And I think she shows a power of Love, overwhelming, anxious, out-of-this-world, the force noone able understand, no one enforced to resist. Doomed color is perfectly hits.

In analytical point of view NO one in the world can be compared to Diana! If I am mistaken, please name ONE! So she has the most unique female voice of the planet and NO DOUBT she is the best female singer of the world. She is 100% a dramatic contralto and although some reactors compare her voice to singers like Cher, Toni Braxton, and Shakira, BUT it is not a correct comparison because NONE of them can sing both the lowest and highest octaves simultaneously.

On October 1, the premiere of a stunningly beautiful OST video for the song “Baikal” took place on Diana Ankudinova’s TH-cam channel.
The soundtrack performed by Diana became the main musical theme of the film “The Spirit of Baikal,” which will be released in wide release on October 19, 2023.
In the film itself, Diana voiced two roles - the spirit of Lake Baikal and the voice of the soul of the deceased mother of the main character of the film. The film received several top awards at film festivals.
Baikal is the deepest, oldest, freshwater lake on Earth (22-23 percent of all fresh surface water), it is a place of power, the spiritual center of shamans, different religions - Shamanism , Buddhism, Christianity, Islam, a pristine place not yet touched by civilization.

Yes, a unique and hauntingly beautiful voice. And person! You should track back a little in time and see the performance of 'Rechenka' which she performed around 14 > 15? years of age. Even more amazing. [ Have a look at her backstory. She has overcome a lot to get to 'here'. The world is lucky to have her. ] I think ir was her pervformance of Wicked Game where Igor Krutoy, as a guest panel judge, first heard her. He immediately recognised what a unique talent Diana is asnd - again ( as with Dimash ) stepped into a mentoring role and enabled her to access the best vocal school for further / teritary studies. I gather Diana is still studying and also composing, and this is most definitely a career to watch!
    * As for a 'Ranking System'- I'm not so keen on these. The best talents are so unique and diverse I beleive it does each artist a disservice to try to compare. Each should be appreciated for their own artistry. 🙂

It sounds like a unique and interesting format, and I'll definitely keep that in mind when reacting to their performances. I appreciate your guidance to turn on CC (closed captions) to understand their comments better. They call her 'the Shamanesse' as a nickname. She is magical! You are in for many treats with Diana. I'm astounded by her personal story. She had an extremely abusive alcoholic mother, unknown father and she was abandoned on the streets by her mother with a broken arm when she was about 5 yo- she was mute. Her mother's relatives took her to an orphanage and one of the women who worked at the orphange adopted her eventually. The new mother took Diana for voice lessons simply to try to get her to speak again. That child found this within herself and it's one of the best voices we've ever heard. Please go back to her 14 yo self performing Rechenka- an old Russian folk song that's pretty creepy- something like a child bride going down to the river (rechenka translates 'little river' or maybe 'dear river') and calling on the animals and the river to give her blessings as she has no family.

Many more suggestions in the comments. Derniere Danse is a good place to start. Rechenka is incredible. One of my favorites is Crow. But please listen to Human. She has said that was the most comfortable for her to sing. She has several new original songs, The Day You and In My Huge City. Absolutely beautiful! And of course, Baikal, which is in a new Russian movie, The Spirit of Baikal. It's shamanic, which is something Diana does well. And she can also yodel, which you'll hear in a couple of these. She is classified as a dramatic contralto. Some say she is polyphonic but that's not what she's doing. She's able to create massive resonance and thus, sings overtones. A lot of people feel as if they're hearing more than one voice when she sings. Her vocal control and styling are really beyond anything I've ever heard. And she most recently has demonstrated a range from F3 to D6. Yes, a whistle note.I hope you react to and analyze more from her. ❤

💖🎼 Peace and love from the UK.
FWIW Igor Krutoy, who has composed some of Dimash's greatest songs, has mentored and financially supported Diana for years. That said, despite his close artistic relationship and friendship with Dimash, he has said that Lara Fabian (mentioned by someone else in this thread) is the greatest song-writer and singer he has ever collaborated with. So please start to react to her too. With Dimash (now 29 and still growing as a singer and composer), Diana (20 I think, and has only just begun writing songs), and Lara Fabian (in her 40s I think, and composing and writing lyrics that are just incredible, and then singing and performing songs better than just about any vocalist that has ever lived), you will have the kind of artists that you need to keep fueling your brilliant analyses and reactions.

@@TheWordSmith365 If you are reading this I managed to get another comment posted to replace the ones YT deleted. Here's hoping!
I sub'd while watching your first Dimash reaction. I switched all notifications on too. I've seen all your videos since then -- it's how I caught this one of Diana.
While I've only commented a couple times, I've enjoyed every second of your reactions. Every dramatic pause, all the fun faces and sounds -- the whole shebang. Your MC presence, intelligently used intelligence, appealing affect, evident knowledge, skilled and diligent editing, and more, all remind me of the total commitment to learning, and to making great experiences, shared by Dimash, Diana, and Lara. Bravo! 😍
      ----
I wrote another comment here about Diana. I find I like writing unique comments that I carefully craft to address a reactor I have come to feel I "know" and love at least a little, typically after a half dozen reactions or so. It was one of those, indeed just about my favorite I've written about Diana. I had felt inspired by your evident appreciation of her, which many of us share, and enjoyed writing it. 👍
My comment was rich in details I thought you might like to know about her life. I wove them into a narrative about 7 songs sung during 6 extraordinary performances by her. I wanted you to get to know a bit of what I know about Diana, and to consider reacting to one or more of the particular series of performances I selected (because I think they form a whole artistically, spiritually, biographically, that tells a chapter of Diana's life story). It began with a song pair when she was 13, and ended with the mood video for Revelation, the first song she wrote and released a year ago when she was 19. 🎉The second to last song/performance was the one you just reacted to, when she was 18. I think they're all richly interconnected in meaning for her, and had hoped to share some of those connections with you.
Unfortunately YT deleted my comment! (Presumably because it thought it was spam. 🤬) I'd forgotten that that happens, so hadn't saved it. 😭
I don't have the spirit to try recreate it in one go, and this comment is already very long anyway. But because you replied so beautifully to my comment above, you've inspired me yet again. 🥰
      ----
I've decided that, over the coming months, as I revisit here to take in Diana reactions, I should try to recreate the literary love I had already tried to send in your direction, and toward Diana, but do so one performance at a time, after taking into account what I think you'll already know by then (by watching your reactions and reading all the comments).
The rest of this comment will talk only about the first/oldest of the performances in "my" set, sung when she was 13. (There are earlier performances which I think are great, but this one when she was 13 went super nova, which is of itself interesting, and it's where I think this story within a story best begins.)
First, the video. It'll be interesting to see if this sentence gets past the YT comment eating monster!:
This video is one of many that are edits of Diana participating in an audition for kids in March 2017. (This was while Dimash was a few weeks in to his famous run in the Chinese The Singer show that launched his career in Asia.) It was a Russian show with 3 judges who started with their backs turned toward auditioning children. If a judge liked what they heard, and wanted a child to stay in the competition, they were supposed to turn around.
Suffice to say, things got strange, and Diana was kinda accidentally unanimously rejected. 😲
I won't tell you much more, other than to claim that the two songs she performed, one before rejection, and one after, are both great performances in their own way, especially for a 13 year old. Indeed, at the end of the video I've linked one of the judges points at her goosebumps with what looked to me like a mix of embarrassment, relief, bewilderment, and delighted surprise.
Within short order the original video of Diana's performance had more downloads than the combined downloads of all videos of all performances by all participants in all the shows in all the seasons of the competition to that date, and if I recall correctly it has gone far beyond that original record, with over 100 million views to date. (Not the video I've linked, which is an edit of the original. As far as I know the original isn't available on YT.)
The bottom line is that, as of March 2017, Diana was suddenly a national star.
      ----
Things then got way weirder over the next year. In particular, her violent alcoholic biological mother got back in touch with her after that video went viral, a decade after leaving her at a bus stop in winter at the age of three with a broken collarbone. (See resources such as her Wikipedia page for more about this, and how she was non-verbal, and then she landed at an orphanage, and a carer there adopted her, and then a speech therapist suggested she try singing, and then she began singing with her adoptive sister.) But I must stop there for now.
      ----
So please consider trying to react to the performance I've discussed.
I say "try" because I only recall one reactor ever reacting to this performance, and I suspect it might be because it gets mercilessly blocked. That said, maybe it doesn't, and reactors just ignore it because they don't think it'll get them subs and likes, or they don't think it's spectacular enough, or they don't hear about it.
And I say "performance" rather than "video" because I hold out hope there's a better video and I just haven't found it. In particular I recall footage of her talking in the tunnel after she left the audition stage, and she was so humble and wise it just melted my heart. Perhaps you can ask viewers about it and see if anyone knows?
Anyhow, I want to assure you I think it's well worth trying to react to this performance. Also, based on what I've seen of you so far, I think there's excellent scope for you doing a great analysis of it that creates a buzz among Diana fans. And I also think it will steer you toward initially exploring a lot of the best in her body of work more or less chronologically, working through her many legendary mid and late teen performances. If you ask watchers to suggest her performances from about 13 onwards, and ask for folk to say how old she was in each performance, you should get a nicely ordered treasure trove in response.
      ----
One final thing. If you *can't* get a reaction to her as a 13 year old, please try her The Joker / Derniere Danse / Last Dance performance when she was 14, and if *that* won't fly, then her Rechenka.
      ----
      See you soon!

I am glad you did that. I was one of those suggested. It is long video, but I will watch it again. You do justice to her.
Her voice type is : shamanic :) ...; She can do yodel (at 13, Voice Kids Russia) or Chipmunk, as the MASK singer round #1 (Lady Gaga) or anything at will.
Don't you agree with what I said ? (Dimash is painter, Diana is clay pot artist)

I'm delighted to hear that you were one of the people who suggested the video, and I'm grateful for your kind words and support. Diana Ankudinova's versatility and unique vocal abilities are truly impressive, and it's wonderful that you feel I do justice to her performances in my reactions.
I appreciate your description of her voice type as "shamanic," and it's clear that she has a wide range of vocal talents, from yodeling to taking on different styles and tones in her performances. Your analogy comparing Dimash to a painter and Diana to a clay pot artist is quite creative and captures the idea that both artists have their distinct ways of expressing their artistry.
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and insights about Diana Ankudinova. If you have any more observations or if there's anything else you'd like to discuss or see on my channel, please feel free to let me know. Без сомнения, Вам, для вокального разбора, необходимо послушать "Реченька". Байкал, конечно, красивый клип и этно-песня удачная, но с тосчки зрения оценки техники пения - Реченька вне конкуренции.

@@TheWordSmith365 So that last part I relate to golf. When a golfer needs a little more potential length from a tee shot he, or she, does what they call letting out the shaft or increasing the length of usable shaft to it's maximum. She reached back and added power to finish off her song. There is a version of this same performance that has the subtitles to what the other judges are saying.
The format of this show is that all the people in that grandstand are judges as well the judged. They were all beyond themselves in praising her vocals.
Diana has continued to expand her upper range she has a new song out called, 'The Day You' I give you the link here.

Correction she's NOT lowered her larynx you can see it when the camera gets closer
Also when she's in this performance she's in school in the Russian version of Julliard and she was 18 and her instructors didn't want her to attempt 5th octave until this age so she wouldn't strain

Great reaction video. The sound from your speaking mic is very soft compared to the playing video. I have to turn the volume up when you speak, then down when you play the video.
But so far your reaction vids are great. From a fellow South African also from Durban ;)
