I'm fairly sure that at the first performance in London in 1692 there were plenty of people in the audience scandalised that it wasnt a "proper" Masque from 100 years previously. Purcell was above all modern, innovative and influenced by new musical ideas from Europe: qui sais but I bet he'd have loved the dancing.
Le baroque sans complexe des nouvelles générations me convient tout à fait .w Christie accompagnait Alfred Deller dans son tout dernier disque , le décès de ce dernier en juillet 1979 l'incita à fonder les arts florissants , et j'ai été emporté par ce goût des couleurs qu'il avait , par les voix comme par les instruments anciens .Purcell si aimé de Deller m'a tjs rendu admiratif.
William Christie me😅 transportera toujours......et son luthiste qui rit quand il joue Thomas Dunford l avenir sur lully autant que sur let it be......merci William Christie pour tous vos te deum et Oprah opera Merci Thomas Dunford avec ce que vous faites l avenir du baroque vecu comme let it be vous appartient.❤ Moi jvai ecoute JC Malgoire a 22 ans j en ai 71 il a ouvert mon avenir 😢
You both couldn't be more wrong. I saw the performance at the Albert Hall last week and was mesmerised, as was the entire audience judging by the extraordinarily warm applause at the end; this was also clearly true of the critics as all the reviews I have read were unanimously highly complimentary - maybe next time approach art with a more open mind and don't assume that there is only one way of performing a traditional piece.

What I hear is beautiful 17c Henry Purcell, but what I see is crap modern staging.
totally agree - all those silly movements don´t suit the elegance of genuine baroque music. sadly, nobody cares anymore about these facts.
