Same language family that's why it has some similarities
The Austronesian languages (/ˌɔːstrəˈniːʒən/) are a language family widely spoken throughout Maritime Southeast Asia, Madagascar, the islands of the Pacific Ocean and Taiwan (by Taiwanese indigenous peoples). There are also a number of speakers in continental Asia.[1] They are spoken by about 386 million people (4.9% of the world population). This makes it the fifth-largest language family by number of speakers. Major Austronesian languages include Malay (around 250-270 million in Indonesia alone in its own literary standard named "Indonesian"), Javanese, and Tagalog (Filipino). According to some estimates, the family contains 1,257 languages, which is the second most of any language family.[2]

back in the day, Filipinos would use "sinta" instead of mahal (love). so it is similar to the bahasa cinta. so when you say "i love you", if you want to use traditional translation, you can say "sinisinta kita". but these days we commonly use "mahal kita".

Original Language Of The Philippines Is “Hebrew Language”, Since King Solomon Era 1000 BC. And “OPHIR”: Original Name Of The Philippines.
During 900 A.D. through Majapahit Empire 12th to 13th Century Era had already contact the Ophirian(Filipino) to Indonesia(Java) people during those times.
Afterwards we’re borrowed Indonesian(Javanese) & Old Malay Languages, and it becomes “Tagalog Language” of OPHIRIAN(Filipino) since then.

Filipino is the official language of the country which is mostly based in Tagalog. But that doesn't make Tagalog as the official language hence, the difference. By the way, in our Meranao (Bangsamoro {Filipino Muslim}) language, the following are our terms for those words:
    1. ILONG - NGIRONG
    2. SANDATA - SANDIYATA
    3. BAYAD - BAYAD
    4. MURA - MAYTO I ARGA
    5. APAT - PAT
    6. DAHON - RA'ON
    7. LAOT - RAGAT (Dagat in Tagalog as well)
    8. PULO - PULO
    9. BATO - ATOR/WATU/WATOR
    10. TAMIS - MAMIS
    11. MAHAL - MALAY ARGA
    12. TAON - RAGON
    13. TAINGA - TANGILA
    14. KUKO - KANUKO
    15. ULAN - URAN (Rain)
    16. SABON - SABON
    17. MAMATAY/PATAY - MATAY/MIYATAY
    18. SUSO - SUSU (Snail/Breast)
    19. SULAT - SURAT (Write)
    20. ITIM - MAITEM (Black)
    See. We are indeed Austronesians.

      Let me clarify...
1.) The national language of the Philippines is Filipino, as stated in the 1987 Constitution.
2.) Filipino and English are both official languages used in the Philippines.
3.) Spanish, which used to be the national language in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era, was relegated as an "optional" language alongside Arabic in the 1987 Constitution.
4.) Ilocano is NOT a dialect, it is one of the major languages in the Philippines.
5.) LANGUAGE is Tagalog, the DIALECTS are Manila, Bulacan, Batangas, Quezon, and Marinduque Tagalog.

    Tagalog is much more complicated gramaticaly than Bahasa Indonesia, in Tagalog we have;
    Ang/ Ng / Ng-mga and Mga.
    For example;
    English, The farmers feed goats.
In Tagalog it's, Ang mga magsasaka ay nagpapakain ng mga 'kambing'.

  • @r0ckamped

Mahal - Expensive (other meaning of Mahal means Love, affection towards your special someone. MAHAL KITA means I LOVE YOU)
    Taon - Year
Tainga (other Filipino spelling, TENGA) - Ears
    Kuko - Nails
Ulan - Rains (in relation to Filipino word AMBON means pre-raining but not totally Raining)
Sabon - Soap (Sabong Pang Laba means Soap for Clothes/ Sabong Paligo means Soap for Bath or Body Soap/all kinds of Soap in Filipino is called Sabon including animal or dog soap)
    Mata not Matai - Eyes
Sulat - Written or Message specifically on Papers, walls by means of pen or what ever writing things. Not included the text messages online. We called it TEXT. But sometimes we do accept that as understandable.
Suso - Breast / Snails, it depends on pronounciation. Suso (Sooso) breast / Suso - Snail
Patay not Matay - Dead / Mamamatay - dying
