    Never ever stopped moving. He could play too. Bremner and Giles were like a top-level three-man midfield.

    • @martynhanson

      I never said he had the skill of Best. When you pick a team you have balance - well, modern teams don't go for that so much. You call them scum, I assume you are a Man Utd fan? Is not Roy Keane 'scum' then. Now for some myth busting about how Leeds were hated. Footballer of the year voted by press - Bobby Collins 1965, jack Charlton 1967 and Bremner 1970. First PFA player of the year Norman Hunter . And you can't vote for your own team.

    • @martynhanson
      @martynhanson 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Also, football league voted top 100 players from 1888 to 1998 and bremner, giles and hunter was in it. Yes, Hunter. Did you live through this era or get your info second hand?

      George Best won his last major trophy aged 22 and then wasted the rest of his career. He may have been the most skilled player Britain has seen, but greatness is measured in many other ways. Billy Bremner was a greater player than Best because of his commitment, discipline and passion as well as his undoubted talent.

    I was in my early teens when Leeds started their run of success, and I absolutely hated them. Their fans would agree, they were the pantomime villains of football at that time - they introduced gamesmanship, referee-beasting etc to the British game. Bremner I especially despised - an annoying, dirty little cheat.
    However, towards the end of his Leeds career, it was rumoured he was joining my team - "F*** yes!" was my instinctive response. I pictured him in our colours and suddenly my view of him changed - here was someone you would definitely want beside you in the trenches! It didn't happen, but once that all conquering Leeds team broke up, I began to see him for what he was - a brave little tough-nut with an enormous heart in an era when it was actually physically dangerous to play football. It's so unfair that he died relatively young, robbed of the chance to enjoy his family into old age. Billy epitomises a wonderful era of football, when he was happy to play the villain, and is responsible for so many of my great memories of that time.

I got a contact for an academy in America through their tough play alone ( a dying breed nowadays) but alas I didn’t take the offer and now I’m a commissioned officer in the RAAF and him and Keane were great mentors throughout

    In the 80's there was no anti Leeds campaign like we have now. It was only when Ferguson went to United when the legions of United fans - well, you could call them that, decided that they would turn part of the hatred to rubbish the great Leeds teams of the past. As we know they have fans all over the world, including in the media, and this has turned into a smear campaign.
    The Damned film was a complete joke. The way Billy Bremner is portrayed shows the cat is out of the bag.
