      I agree, shows, movies, anime, whatever is all art, and discussion about it should be about people’s experiences with art, instead we have people just screaming at each other about their opinions being better. It’s insufferable

    I feel like shonen can benefit from some slice-of-life moments to build some character development and make you feel attached to the characters.
    Chainsaw man did this perfectly with Aki waking up to make his morning coffee with a newspaper in hand. The scene felt slow but peaceful which gave the audience a chance to breathe and take in the scenery. Basically, a calm before the storm. And seeing Aki, power and denji hanging out makes me connect with them more than the main trio in JJK.
    My problem is with JJK season 2, I feel like it started the Shibuya arc too early and should've just waited until season 3. The baseball scene is my favorite because we can see the characters in their downtime which makes them relatable.

      Talking about western comic, I think the problem is it can get very daunting to get into. Unlike one piece where you know where to start, comics... doesn't have that jumping off point. DC and Marvel tried to fix that by creating a new universe (I've only started DC's Absolute Universe which is good btw, y'all should read it. Haven't tried Marvel Ultimate universe). But if you want to get into main continuity... Good luck. At least with DC, your jumping off point is Rebirth (which is 2013? Or was that n52?).
      Tie ins issue are also making reading comics annoying.
      It's not bad... It's just hard to get into. If anybody interested in getting comic, definitely try DC's Absolute Universe. They only have 3 series so far (Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman) and each only had 4 chapters so far.

    Violence isn't "problematic", it's violence. Some people just don't have the stomach for it and it's fine. There's nothing good or bad about depicting violence. Loli shit can be problematic for the association with pedo shit (whether it's correct or not depends on the show, but too often it is) and that's the "problematic" part.

    • @EyesDontCry
      @EyesDontCry 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      What's your basis for denying violence can be problematic? You can easily portray certain violent acts positively and say that's problematic.
      What about acts of terrorism? Or school shootings? I would certainly call those portrayals problematic if they were trying to put the violent actors in a positive light.
      I can just as easily say some people simply can't stomach loli in the same way, but this would be blatantly ignoring ways that it could be used harmfully just as you have done here for violent media.

    this isn't really a hot take, but it is a PSA:
    stop saying that shojo romance is the equivalent of shonen fanservice.
    if you want shojo romance, but for men, then you have to write a romantic story, but for men. if you want shonen fanservice, but for women, then you have to write sexual scenes, but for women.
    the problem with fanservice isn't really that it's prolific, or even that it's disrespectful. people can have kinks that look like disrespect on the surface, but are actually just part of a sexual fantasy. as long as that fantasy doesn't affect how you treat real people in your day to day life, you're good. it's only cringe if it translates into real disrespect.
    the actual problem with fanservice is that it's so weighted toward being about women, and for men, that women end up feeling picked on/exploited, while never feeling properly catered to. I think a lot of guys in the community take it for granted that their definition of "fanservice" should either equally fit all people, or should be tolerated in abundance, even though these same guys are probably the first to clown on anything that shows men being sexually appealing to women.
    and keep in mind, men's fanservice gets to be downright raunchy on main. and whenever someone points out how much there is, or how extreme it gets, I have literally seen guys say "um, but there's also fanservice for women though!" and they'll be talking about like... just Free Iwatobi swim club. or they'll try to say that "pathetic girl with a hotboy harem" romance stories are the equivalent of all the sexual shots of women that are casually peppered throughout just about god damn everything.
    the problem isn't a matter of fanservice existing. it's about the distribution of which fans are getting served. because god, if you're more into dick than boobs, you're out here tolerating an awful lot without getting much of anything you actually want.

    • @natalimoina
      @natalimoina 18 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Problem is it does affect how people treat women in real life

    • @IDKLOL-qj7sl

      @@natalimoina of course, which is why I wanted to introduce this topic. because I mean... the content already exists, and a lot of people already indulge. what are we supposed to do about that? ban the content? I doubt that would work. so the next best thing is: demand respect regardless.
      think of it this way: if you try to ban something, the respectful folks will be more likely to listen to the request to stop, because they're respectful. the disrespectful ones will just get either belligerent, or sneaky. but if we have open conversations as a community, about what behavior is appropriate, and what behavior won't be tolerated, there's a much greater chance that the community will form a consensus. and a unified community is equipped to socially reject people who can't behave themselves.
      but like... that's also why I think it's important for me to say that indulging in kink is fine, as long as people still have genuine respect for others. my statement here is important, because I know that's not always the case, and I'd rather clarify that genuine disrespect is not okay.
      and what that looks like, is people learning to maintain a healthy separation between fictional media and real world interactions. it's like in BDSM. sometimes a scene will include something that _looks_ like abuse. but what prevents it from _being_ abuse, is consent. if all parties happily consent, without coercion, and they always have the option of revoking consent at any time, and being respected for that... when there is a genuine separation between reality and fiction, then it is fine. media is the same way. you can tell/consume a story about anything, so long as you continue to be a good person. and if you find someone who can't do that, the problem isn't the fiction... it's the reality. it's not that someone read a bad story... it's that they're a bad person. and that should change.
      I think people can only benefit from getting more used to this idea.

    I know you won’t see this but here’s my hot take:
    JJK fan base relies a lot on its fan fiction, and I truly believe it changed the ending. Now this isn’t new but when I watch this new, modern twist of Anime I was left with disappointment. When I first got into JJK I saw a lot of fan fiction about it and was surprised when I finally watched it for my self. The main character was a lot more boring when I was told he was a very unique protagonist. The female characters were supposed to represent the modern women only to be a little weaker, less character arc, and not very important to the story. Even Gojo was a bit of a shock. Not because he wasn’t handsome or charming but he was extremely selfish and low key the cause of many problems in the story. In fact, he lost all of the important fights when everyone said he was a winner. When I mentioned this before I was hated and I’m still am because people still hold on to what they think these characters are. However, I think bringing back some original characters at the end was partly due to fan influence. The show is okay though, but this is why media literacy and watching got yourself is so important.

    The loli conversations always annoy me, it's basically 2 people not understanding each other shouting at each other.
    But as someone who generally thinks loli is okay, it particularly annoys me when lolicons act like they don't know why people dislike it. You get called an anime tourist for simply having an opinion on it like "hey those look like kids and that's not cool".
    People will fight tooth and nail against such things as though it's not normal for people to see something they think looks like a child sexualised and dislike it.
    I don't like some of the discourse against it but atleast I can say they are arguing in good faith with a perfectly understandable position, but some of the people who vehemently defend lolicon are so willfully ignorant it's absurd.

    • @blob_cancel_aftercast
      @blob_cancel_aftercast 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      mostly I think the biggest problem is the jump in logic from "okay and/or unbothered with watching loli stuff" to "actual pedophile."

    • @EyesDontCry
      @EyesDontCry 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @@blob_cancel_aftercast my problem with that is how completely different people's standards are for what that means.
      You can think whatever you want, if you think someone's a pedophile there's no real harm there even if I disagree with your logic personally, I just can't get behind people acting like there's obvious consensus on it when there isn't.
      Some people think you're a pedo for liking anya (I personally would fall more into that camp) and some people think you're a pedo for liking tatsumaki and Rebecca.
      People act like it's super obvious and more importantly think it's objective which anime characters look like children or not, while everyone clearly has a different opinion.
      The same goes for lolicons, simply put most lolicons just don't think certain lolis look like children that most other people probably would. Their opinion isn't objectively correct though, it's just how they see it. I don't necessarily think you're a pedo for liking something you don't think looks like a child but I can't say I definitely have the objectively right opinion on that.
      Because we're looking at fictional stylised drawings the ability for you to perceive any given thing in a different way to another person is so much larger. I wish people would just understand that a little more instead of acting like they have the completely correct perception and anyone else is wrong.

    • @blob_cancel_aftercast
      @blob_cancel_aftercast 18 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@EyesDontCry Yes, Im very inclined to agree with your sentiments here. I especially think this is tough because if you speak in any sort of way that can be perceived as a "defense" of the material in question, you will quickly be labeled a pedophile by those most outspoken. And, since this is a terrible fate, most people probably don't even bother. So what you end up getting is just the outspoken loli haters with no rebuttal, except maybe from the naive who don't know what's coming for them.

      Real, while I think the intense reactions to fictional characters - particularly adult looking ones - are ridiculous, I **get** it when others find loli objectionable. @@EyesDontCrySometimes violence can be justified. Sexual violence can never be justified. Sexual violence should not be portrayed unless it has legitimate plot significance. Seeing it portrayed as a throw away gag is understandably very offputting. It gives the impression that the creators don't see it as a serious issue. Seeing loli stuff portrayed feels like an appeal to pedophiles, which is not going to make me want to continue watching. Similarly, I do not like shows that portray violence in ways that feel like an appeal to sadism, but this is much less common in anime.
