No: Literacy is falling apart. If you have adults that are struggling to comprehend at what was a grade 10 level, and you have kids who struggle to put a sentence together by the time they are in grade 4/5, there is a serious problem. I never thought of myself as a reader but - sometime ago... I realized: I dig into white papers... for fun? Interest? curiosity? Critical thinking skills - that is a whole other problem, and it is related. Basic literacy is foundational to organizing complex nuanced thoughts - our minds don't hold onto a pile of data in active memory, and so what you need is a system of correlating and forming relations between idea's into a complex singular idea that can be held and processed along other data. The better you are at doing this, the more abstract of a problem you can handle and deal with.

Only time I've ever seen a coupon is on the back of recipes from chain stores for 10% of tyres or some crap

Of course he's going to do it again. He made $1,500,000,000 after selling his last scam program to PayPal. Since he's now rich, laws don't apply to him.
@@circlehook7743 It's a scam for the websites that host the advertisements, since they don't receive the money from the companies for the advertisements that are blocked or hijacked by Pie. Also applies for any content creators that facilitate advertisements in their videos. However, as far as the user is concerned? I'm not so certain. It's just one of those "too good to be true" moments, with the added fact that it is being run by people who have made an already-known scam, is what makes people skeptical. If a scam wasn't good, everyone would be able to see right through it.
@@circlehook7743nobody is saying it’s an outright scam. The point is one of the founders of Honey are involved and seeing that Honey is a scam, then why use Pie? Do we really have to explain that if they’re claiming it’s free AND you’re getting paid, that they’re selling your data? Ppl seem to not care about this until their ID is stolen 🤦🏼♀️
It can't be a total coincidence that Google breaks adblockers for TH-cam earlier this year, and then PIE shows up, right? While it does sound like Google would be hurt by PIE on paper, I feel like there's something we're still missing here.
I refuse to be advertised to. I will spend 2 minutes reloading the page to avoid a 1 minute ad. If I can't skip the ad, I will mute it and look away. If I see the same ad too often, I will seek out the competition when/if I ever *do* need that product/service.
I thought it was suspicious literally every ad I've seen the last month was for Pie, since that business model shouldn't be nearly profitable to pay for that. Now it makes sense.
I saw those Pie ads before I saw the other video about honey and immediately thought that it was more or less an ad swap. They get paid for ads, show them to the user, and take their cut while tossing back a few cents to their good little ad watchers. Much like how honey doesn't always find deals, pie would 'unfortunately' not be able to block all ads, while serving their own.
So basically this so called "ad-blocker" takes ads away and adds their own. That's the only way they could share revenue with users that I can think of.
I don't believe in blocking all ads automatically, I also don't believe in forcing people to watch ads that they aren't interested in. All ads should be skippable immediately then you can watch ads that interest you without being forced to watch ads for products you're not interested in.
The problem with apps like this (even if they didn't advertise themselves as LA trusted, which is an instant no for me) is that they immediately give off the impression of an IRL money glitch. I can understand donation supported, indie ad-blockers who give you a service for free and only require enough money to keep afloat. I can NOT understand a for-profit company which *gives you money* for *shutting down ads.* They're obvious not doing this out of kindness since they're *for profit.* So there has to be something *really* nefarious under the hood for them to get enough money to stay afloat, enough money to supposedly pay *you* _and_ enough money to keep a company profitable. And chances are, they're not going to milk the multi-billion dollar companies or even content creators because that comes with _complications._ So what's left is the actual user.
Unpopular opinion: I kinda love what honey and pie is doing. I'm sick of ads and sponsors, so honey/pie stealing money from the people that usually profit from them is kinda awesome. It's really funny to me that these content creators, who waste my time with sponsorships, end up loosing money because of it.
Them naming it "Pie" is their way to steal the name of another existing ad blocking solution - "Pi". "Pi-hole" to be exact, it is a famous and relatively popular ad blocking solution you can install as a middleman for your whole home network. It's open-source and free.
I still don't understand how they should get money from ads when nobody is paying pie for the ads? I don't get it. How should Pie get money if the payment is directly paid to the creators from google. There is no middleman that can be injested with cookies ?
That's what I'm saying. I'm literally not losing any money at all. If anything, I save every now and then with honey. I mean jokes on the companies that pay for ads because I'm not stupid and impulsive enough to ever fall for it. I've never once seen an ad and went to buy it. So really they are just losing money no? I really fail to see where the actual scam is.
@circlehook7743 For Honey, the scam is that they do not offer you the best discount the site can offer. While with manual serching, you sometimes find better discount codes. With Pie, I don't get it
I would guess since the extension has the capability of modifying content on a web page, they can replace the websites ads with ads they get paid for. It may block ads at first, but if you opt in for the revenue sharing crumbs, they may do some ad injection/replacement, thus monetizing other peoples websites like some parasite.
Scary video says the Adblocker that blocks most ads is worse than the adblocker that blocks all adds. How is this any worse than other adblockers? "You're not going to stop watching" I didn't touch twitch for over a year because the ads were so bad on the platform. I didn't have an adblock that worked for twitch. People will leave.
I have a diff ad block; during the time its "buffering" a skipped ad, I get an almost micro-ad(?). It is like I am getting short 1-2 "buffers" while being flashed basically a large branding screen across my monitor as if I am staring at a billboard. I think there is new "ad space" being sold to this one company somehow?? Am I going crazy? What is happening with Peoples Internet Expermint?
I don't care if it's worse for creators. If it's better for me I 100% support it. You guys fight it out. And we definitely would have TH-cam if TH-cam couldn't serve ads. There was a time when there were no ads on TH-cam. Of course, it would prevent people from using it to finance their life using TH-cam alone, but the internet would just go back to broadcasting passion projects. Win win in my book.
Now, that's just selfish. The reality is, now a lot of people's lives are dependent on TH-cam, for better or worse. You can't dismissed their livelihoods just because. It's TH-cam's job to bring balance between providing the best for creators and audiences.
Not strictly true. Pie is an attempt to re-route Adsense to the app, and possibly to its user, whereas other ad blockers are erasing Adsense data completely.

It's like those scam product pages with the flashing red text and "only 10 units left! order before it's too late!" BS. I automatically hate them. It's a great defense mechanism.
I wondered that, too. then you realize, TH-cam still will make the add money, they just pay it to Pie, instead of the content creators and they probably will pay less to PIe, who in turn, will pay even less to the ones viewing 'to get paid to view adds using Pie'. TH-cam wins because they pay out less. Now this does feel like short-term gains because, TH-cam (google) gets add money from investors and so if less is being doled out, less goes around. But short-term gain over the next few quarters will look high, and investors will like it. Corporate always chases short term profits over long term stability, look this shit up.
Yessss! Im so glad this video finally came up, ive been calling pie a scam for months and i even googled "is pie a scam" and googles result said it was, the top answer without clicking any links, then i searched the same thing a few days later to show someone else and the result was completely scrubbed from the google results. What are you talking about that YT wouldn't be around without ads? It was at its peak at the beginning when it didn't have ads. Then the censorship came in with the ads.
I love when Asmon does the 'you're not going to stop watching' as I watch from TH-cam instead of twitch specifically because of their insane amount of ads.
1:33 Why Honey is bad for the end user: It gives you a carefully preselected roster of coupon codes, almost never being the best deals. This is to *trick you* into not searching for better deals. I hardly go online shopping enough to justify or even care about getting something like honey. maybe i'd've fallen for it if i shopped more, or maybe I just immediately saw it as just something to ignore and blocked it out too quickly to spot any red flags. either way, i dodged one HELL of a bullet lmfao
An amazing amount of people didn't stop to think _"Hey, is this too good to be true?"_
@@saratsuki777 They promised to find you best coupons for free and it is a browser extension. Thats like 2 red titanics right here.

I knew something was fishy about an ad for an adblocker
If it’s free, you’re the product.
Simple: ignore all ads from creators or anywhere else. Another tip: if something is free... maybe you are the product? :)
Product of what? I don’t offer anything to anyone lol. My data has lots of lies and I’ll purpose have weird trends that don’t add up to my life.

I've seen so many ads for Pie and all I thought is that it looks like a scam. I've reported several of the ads for it.
The only problem with Honey was that it screwed over creators and hid better deals. If the consumer still got the discount the consumer doesn't care. I personally think that if a coupon exists the product should be that price. Americans and their coupon system is fucked. Only time I've ever seen a coupon is on the back of recipes from chain stores for 10% of tyres or some crap
It is screwing the consumer: if consumer is told via advertising and believes honey is getting them the best available coupon code, and theres often a better one a simple google search would yeild...
dumb consumer, dumb system - yes indeed, still it falls under false advertising (scam or at least scammy )

then explain why and how its a scam. the video doesn't say anything
@@circlehook7743 It replaces ads with their own ads. You still get ads.
I kept getting those pie adblocker ads
I heard “make money from ads” and immediately felt that it was too good to be true
It can't be a total coincidence that Google breaks adblockers for TH-cam earlier this year, and then PIE shows up, right?
While it does sound like Google would be hurt by PIE on paper, I feel like there's something we're still missing here.
You shouldn’t give your data to everyone just to skip ads or pretend to save money
Much like how honey doesn't always find deals, pie would 'unfortunately' not be able to block all ads, while serving their own.
on youtube no matter how many times I block the pie ad it just keeps coming back
So basically this so called "ad-blocker" takes ads away and adds their own. That's the only way they could share revenue with users that I can think of.
basically brave rewards in Brave browser
It's oddly convenient that suddenly my Adblocker is not working and all the ads I'm being served are like 80% PIE ads...
Remember, "If it's free you are not the customer, you are the product".
When at first you don't succeed, try the same thing again under a different name.
I mean, they succeeded, though. They sold off the first creation for 4 billion dollars...
Problem is it succeeded...well
I don't believe in blocking all ads automatically, I also don't believe in forcing people to watch ads that they aren't interested in. All ads should be skippable immediately then you can watch ads that interest you without being forced to watch ads for products you're not interested in.
Linus tech tips knew about this 2 years and kept quiet lol
They make money of it obviously.
The thing is, no matter how much light get brought to the situation, people are still just gonna NPC.
Is this why I keep getting Pie ads on youtube? I removed honey.
Just wait till they start playing ads at traffic lights.. then increase the time on the red so you watch more ads.
I'm sick of these ads. Annoy the hell out of people with ads for an adblocker. Create the problem amd solution
if a company is saying that you are getting money by doing nothing, 99.99% chance it is a scam and is doing something behide the scenes
Paying for ads to advertise a company blocking ads
Them naming it "Pie" is their way to steal the name of another existing ad blocking solution - "Pi". "Pi-hole" to be exact, it is a famous and relatively popular ad blocking solution you can install as a middleman for your whole home network. It's open-source and free.
The only way I could do that is by getting the money out of the bank.
A lot of people opted out of cable because of the excessive commercials. Online platforms won't be immune to this.
4:20 it literally says its made by the people who made honey
Pew Research just published data showing that Twitter/X content is about 50/50 right- and left-wing.
With Pie, I don't get it
It's the TH-camrs that miss out..who cares ..
@@Joel82 it blocks twitch ads too so I don't know how that would work
I would guess since the extension has the capability of modifying content on a web page, they can replace the websites ads with ads they get paid for.
I was not expecting the honey plot twist
i tried Pie, and the only thing i noticed is that every ad i got after that point was an ad for Pie.

TH-cam existed without ads for many years.
You can't complain about pie while using any other adblocker. You're literally harming content creators the same way.
Not strictly true. Pie is an attempt to re-route Adsense to the app, and possibly to its user, whereas other ad blockers are erasing Adsense data completely.

Lied or ignorant? I do recall him saying that he couldn't find anything but it is wild when I feel like I recall one or two.
@MatthewKelley-mq4ce definitely lied!! he purposely didn't want to give any credit to anyone for his video (literally stealing content just like honey!!) you think someone like him with all of those investigation skills missed a bunch of videos on TH-cam? but on the other hand he could find a post deep down inside the linus tech forum?

PIE is literally advertising on TH-cam. The irony is at an EPIC level.
PIE seems like a great example of: "I have a great idea for an acronym, I just have to figure out what it stands for."
Any time I'm inundated by ads for something or some service by a bunch of people I don't know telling me "trust me, you NEED this" I instantly distrust and ignore. It's like those scam product pages with the flashing red text and "only 10 units left! order before it's too late!" BS. I automatically hate them. It's a great defense mechanism.
My first thought was why would they allow a supposed add blocker to advertise.
"...then I'm just going to stop watching!" - viewer
"No your not." - asmon
There's multiple reasons why I don't pay for streaming services anymore.
I just installed Pie this extension because non of my other Adblock has stopped working.
Yessss! Im so glad this video finally came up, ive been calling pie a scam for months and i even googled "is pie a scam" and googles result said it was, the top answer without clicking any links, then i searched the same thing a few days later to show someone else and the result was completely scrubbed from the google results. The reddits have bots who try to say it isnt a scam too.
Funny enough since the chrome update that broke ublock the first video I saw after seeing that video exposing honey was literally an ad for PIE.
What are you talking about that YT wouldn't be around without ads? It was at its peak at the beginning when it didn't have ads. Then the censorship came in with the ads.
I always find it weird that TH-cam is trying to get rid of Adblocker, however they still play ads from PIE
I love when Asmon does the 'you're not going to stop watching' as I watch from TH-cam instead of twitch specifically because of their insane amount of ads.
1:33 Why Honey is bad for the end user:
It gives you a carefully preselected roster of coupon codes, almost never being the best deals. This is to *trick you* into not searching for better deals.
This effectively allows the companies that partner with Honey to corral consumers into cherry picked sales, while hiding better deals
"The people's internet experiment" "To see if they'll fall for this shit again-"
