So sad that alcohol took such a talented man so early. Loved his music and how kind of you to return to give him a second tribute. It's always special when a home town boy does good and is then never forgotten! May he rest in peace. Thank you for this special visit!

Keith Whitley was my favorite singer and still is to this day. I wish I could have seen him perform in Grayson when he was doing a benefit after the Prichard school burned down. I was 13 and my Dad wouldn't take me. He said it'd be so packed, you couldn't stir them with a stick 😁. He was right! Grayson is my hometown although I live just a few miles outside of town in Oldtown, Greenup County, KY. Thanks for sharing this video. Good to find someone to watch from my neck of the woods!!!

Keith was between my younger brothers in age. I didn’t know about Keith in the 80s as I was fighting my own battle with alcoholism. I lucked out many times or I would be gone now and especially during the 80s. I have been a George Jones fan since I was 12 years old and grew up with Eddy Arnold, Lefty F., Hank W. Patsy Cline etc. When I first heard Keith singing “Don’t Close Your Eyes” I cried. In some of his songs I could see the despair in his face and behind his eyes the demons that many of us fight the rest of our lives. RIP my fellow traveler that took you from us way too soon.

For such a short career, he certainly left a permanent mark on country music history! I read that unfortunately Lorrie Morgan blamed herself for his death, as she was on a promotional tour at the time (at the insistence of her agent), and believed if she had been home she could have stopped him from binging on alcohol.

I don't know Whittdoc. I think there are a LOT of FAMOUS SINGERS from Kentucky. There's Loretta Lynn, Bill Monroe, Billy Ray Cyrus, Naomi and Wynonna, etc, etc.... And you did a PROPER PRESENTATION on Keith Whitley. I've got to tell you this story, but you've probably heard it before, if so, please forgive. Supposedly, toward the end of Keith's life, Lorrie would tie their legs together so that every time Keith would get up, she'd have to get up with him. Isn't that sad?!

Did Randy Travis and Keith ever meet each other? I've yet to this day hear that they did, not even from Randy. No one in country music that I've ever heard spoke about it. I've wondered this a long time, and with all my research I still yet to hear of it. My guess is they never did, and if they did it was a passing moment not on record anywhere. If they didn't then why?... they both had country albums at the same time in the mid 80's. Both basically at the top in their begginings.

I'm surprised you said there wasn't a lot of fame that came out of your part of Kentucky. Tom T. Hall just passed away. There were three famous members of the Clooney family. The Judd's are from nearby and Butcher Hollow isn't that far away either. Southern Ohio is just across the river, which would be part of your region. Roy Rogers was from nearby on that side. There are also others.
I was born the same year as Keith Whitley and I recall "Wolfman Jack" interviewed him. He was so flattered and humble that Wolfman Jack knew details of him. He was such a pleasant person and such a loss. His style was very close to Lefty Frizzell.

I went to high school in Sandy Hook, Ky. I moved to Sandy Hook in 1997 and then moved in 2006 to Grayson, Ky. I haven't been to Sandy Hook in awhile but I have a brother that lives about 7 miles out of Sandy Hook and another one that passes through there about every 2 weeks or so. There was a restaurant in Sandy Hook called the Frosty Freeze where it was full of Keith Whitley pictures and stuff but it burned in March of this year. I have no idea if any of his pictures were saved or not. I hope they had time to get them out. Before I moved from Sandy Hook I would see Keith's mom Faye all the time. She was a little red headed woman. I had never met her but when my dad passed away she went to his viewing. I guess they must have been friends. I really don't know. Every year I think maybe the 1st weekend in September they have a tobacco festival. They always have a live band and Keith's brother Dwight has sung there before. I don't know if he goes every year or not. I think it would be something to check out. If you haven't been to Sandy Hook don't blink while your driving through town or you will miss everything. lol

Keith Whitley was a true Kentucky boy, his voice was amazing. Kentucky has many reasons to be proud from Loretta Lynn, Crystal Gayle, Patty Loveless, Dwight Yokham, Bill Monroe, Ricky Skaggs and Billy Ray Cyrus and many others. Love listening to Keith's music. Sad to have lost him so young.

I was 10 years old when Keith passed & for the prior Christmas my parents had gotten me my first stereo & my local country station played a beautiful tribute to him, but due to the passing years I can't remember the entirety of it. I remember they played all his hits & also played a couple of Lorrie Morgan's songs as well.
Amazing video as always. I love how you always share & show respect to each & every cemetery & grave you visit. Thank you for allowing us to join you on your adventures.

i can remember my dad playing Keith Whitley country songs many years ago he had a fantastic country voice, never knew he had died though so its nice to see a well respected grave and for you showing your respects Chris in sharing this Cemetery tour vlog, really enjoyed this one and i know the Great Keith Whitley through my dad's music choice although i did still play his songs through TH-cam to remind me of his silky country voice from across the pond in UK
