  • Let's make faux mercury glass ornaments! This is so easy a beginner can easily accomplish these. You'll have trouble figuring out which is real...and which is fake. THIS WILL NOT WORK WITH PLASTIC - MUST BE GLASS!

They turn out so beautiful - and they really do look like mercury glass! I would love to see how they turn out - just get ready to spray, shake, and dry for a long time! xx

I’ve used a different brand of mirror spray paint, and plastic ornaments and it’s worked every time. So you don’t have to use just Krylon paint, or glass ornaments…

Could you use another color of metallic paint? Maybe an aqua or even red?

Yes! BUT - and here's your problem - it has to be the Krylon Looking Glass spray paint. It won't work with any other type. (In my experience.) The spray paint only comes in silver so you're stuck with silver. However, instead of using gold Dazzling Metallics paint, you can use turquoise or red. I don't know if you can tell but I used their turquoise paint in some of my ornaments shown at the end of the video. They turned out gorgeous! This is such an easy way to dress up your tree and add some vintage-looking elements - it's just a little time-consuming and repetitive. If you sit down and do a box of glass ornaments all at once then it goes quickly - and the effect is so pretty on the tree. Two years later and I just pulled them out to get ready to decorate my home, and they still look great. I really hope you try it! Thank you for your question!

@@SargentBubblescom I have Krylon Looking Glass. I was messing around with my first one tonight. I used a little champagne and rose gold metallic paints. Wasn’t sure how I feel about them so I decided to see what I think in the morning. I’m hoping to put some on my Tiffany’s tree so silver and turquoise would be perfect. Thank you.

@@theamazingtif That would be awesome! I'm so glad to hear you're trying it. Just keep playing around - you'll see they come together quickly. It's just a lot of swirling around inside the ornament, dumping the paint, and drying. You'll get there! Let me know if the colors wind up working for your tree - that sounds like it would be beautiful!

Why do you let it pool on the bottom rather than spinning it to coat the ornament before emptying?

Hi Norah - There's no reason. You can spin it to coat the ornament if you would like - it's just the way I did it. It's what was comfortable to me. The solution is so thin that it really doesn't "coat" anything - it just kind of runs around. If you would like to spin it and try to coat the sides of the ornament, go for it! I really didn't think it made a difference either way. I hope that answers your question - thanks for asking!

No wonder you wasted so much paint and it took so many coats, you just put the product in and let it sit. You need to swirl it around and coat the inside so the paint goes on the decoration then turn it over and let the paint that’s left drip out on the paper towel. Try it you see you have much better results, works perfect for me.
