    Ferry is the true dark horse GOAT of trance and electronic music in general. He's the real deal. No ghost producers, he does everything himself - composition, producing, arrangement, and mixing. And best of all, he's a super humble and nice guy.

    Wow, I remember first hearing Ferry in late 90's, such a cool sound...now to hear the 'story' behind those songs is great. And the inspiration for music producers, handling criticism, and staying relevant in constantly changing times was a blessing. Kudos Will for doing a great interview with Ferry, learned alot!

    It's some years ago, but when Ferry played DJ at a club here in South-Africa, I went up to the DJ Box, being a pro DJ at the time myself, and shook his hand. Respect and energy movements at a quantum level needless to say.

    Nice one Will! Ferry is one of my all time favourite producers. I've followed him from the very early days - buying pretty much everything he released and remixed on vinyl from that era. You can also add 'Pulp Victim' to the list of his pseudonyms - I've just dug out 'The World '99' on Neo records which was a quality label of the day. He's definitely been a massive inspiration and influence on my sound.

    I love what he says about layering. A couple of years back every EDM producer would tell you you need to layer 257 synths in the drop to get a big sound and of course it mostly sounds like crap if you do that because it naturally introduces phasing issues. People really like to tell you complicated stuff to make it seem much harder than it actually is.

    Just discovered this channel...Awesome interview! The last question is what many of us want an answer to, and as much as I respect Ferry, it was kind of disappointing and gatekeeper-ish. Why only Soundcloud? Why does he assume that everyone should follow a template? The question was how do we get our fave DJs to play our tracks, not how do we get started making music. (Thank goodness for the distribution options we have these days.)

    • @EDMTips
      @EDMTips  27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Glad you enjoyed! Not sure what you mean about "gatekeeper-ish", though - he literally shared what he suggests. And where is he assuming that everyone should follow a template? The question was "Is there any advice you could give to someone who wants to be a full-time producer - or who just wants to be a successful producer?". His advice was, "Don't be afraid of putting your music out there and getting feedback" and "the fastest way to learn how to make good music is to reference existing music and to try and recreate it". In terms of your question "how to get your favourite DJs to play your tracks", the answer (from my experience) is 1. Make extremely good tracks that would fit in their set, and 2. build a relationship with them so you can send them exclusive music before other DJs".
      The simplest answer would be: Try and put yourself in their shoes. What would annoy you? (e.g. loads of people spamming you with half-ass tracks), and what would YOU want? (e.g. exclusive, incredible tracks that will fit into your DJ sets and make the dancefloor go crazy).

    • @serasonproject
      @serasonproject 27 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@EDMTips Thanks for your response, Will, also for offering an answer to the question of getting heard, and ultimately, played, by genre/style-appropriate DJs...Just about the question though, you did add some detail in the actual interview when asking this final question, being "...wants to become a successful producer, you know, they might have a job that they love, but they wanna release stuff that's played by their favourite DJs. Is there any advice that you would give someone in that situation?", to which FC did not specifically respond and I just felt it was an excellent question that is rarely (never?) asked of someone in his position, but it's relevant to so many of us who don't want to DJ and increase the reach of our own music that way. As for the "template", I just referred to him suggesting grabbing someone's song and recreating it as part of his response to this.

    Great interview... re AI, as a vocalist I can say I'm not at all worried... AI will never take away the experience and feeling of singing, which is an emotional expression... as a human this is a gift and robots can do what they like but they will never feel what the human feels when we sing... and to be replaced... don't care at all ... I will always prefer the experience of watching a vocalist sing live etc and will always support that ... maybe eventually robot music will become a genre ha ha

    All these producers unaware that once/IF they become hella good at it, nothing will happen unless they get lucky... like that 0.003% of other talented/connected producers. 😛

      Strange. When I moved to the Netherlands in 2001, I couldn't believe my luck that he was performing in Maastricht! He melted my heart with his music then and now with this interview. Such a legend, great talent and one very decent human.

      I'm Irish and been a fan of his since 1998 or so, and have seen him perform in netherlands many time, Utrecht, Zandvoort, Amsterdam... He's a legend.

      Course you have heard of him, his real name is Trance. One time, i had a company to cut my grass in the garden, i later found out it was Ferry under the name of "Lawnmower Man". Most Euphoric garden after that. 😇

    19.11…Yes music was definitely better back then. Too much sub standard 19:28 music being released today, it’s almost too easy and too accessible which In turn means the market is over saturated. Also generally lower sales/ lower income from record sales has led labels to release more and more - where is this going??

    Honestly … trance is so dated, that i seriously doubt those big boys from the past still enjoy the same sound as it once was
