I have a 2011 XK 5.0 convert and I just love it. The back seats, that are unusable for humans, are indispensable as usable access space, I would be frustrated with an F type. I did a lot of research before buying it and the best quote I saw comparing it to the Aston back in contemporary reviews was this, "If you want a harder driving sports car, or absolutely need the badge, get the Aston. But if you want to take a long drive to the south of France in sophistication and comfort, get the Jag."

The 2011 to 2014 Jag has it all - heritage, looks, performance, luxury, status - and cheaper to run.

My 2010 XKR passed 215,000 miles last week. It has been my daily driver for 11 years and is the finest automobile I've ever owned in 57 years of driving. It has never been babied and has been tracked dozens of times over my ownership and has been extremely reliable. When I first bought it, I had it pulleyed and tuned to about 600hp for about $800. It can be leisurely or aggressive but always a pleasure. It was quicker than my beautiful De Tomaso Pantera and so much more civilized that I stopped driving the Pantera for about 3 years until I could make it a better car, all because of how good the Jag was. My XKR will never leave my ownership until either it or I expire. It's more likely that I'll be the one to go first. Try and find a 200,000 mile Aston that actually is still driven everyday and that works. It may exist but highly unlikely.

I love this format. The driver taking the lead and talking about the car with the passenger interjecting just works so well. Its like someone buying a car and taking their mate out to show it off and have a natter about it.
Great video lads and two cracking cars to do it with to boot.

I'm currently driving a 2015 XKR convertible and owned a 2005 XKR back in the late 2000's. Between those two was a 2007 XKR coupe back in 2016-2018 followed by a V-6 F-Type (modified). I loved them all. The F-Type was probably the most fun sports car wise but the least comfortable and I found myself missing the GT-ness (lol) of the X150. I've also modified this one (Velocity AP tune and crank pulley) so it's plenty fast.
Now with all that said, I sure do love the looks of the Aston's. The only thing that's held me back is the cost of parts. I do all of my own work and the Jags just aren't that expensive.
    Great video!

The obvious answer is the Jaaaaaaag but I’m a Jaguar Junkie.
I love the DB9, but at the end of the day…it’s gotta be the Jag.
I love the hint of subtle discretion the Jag has to it. Because it’ll turn less heads then the Aston, but still retains the classic GT spirit and proportions, and to my eye, is prettier (taste is subjective I appreciate), the Jag becomes the perfect gentleman’s express.
The Aston with the badge snobbery that comes with it (note: not suggesting Aston fans are snobs. Some might be, but overall they are lovely people) is a little too in your face and a smidgen indiscreet.
The Jag is like a great butler. It just knows exactly what you need when you need it.

I have owned a 2007 X150 XKR in beautiful Botanical Green (BRG with a nice gold fleck when the sun hits it) for the last 4 years and love it. That said the AM DBS from Casino Royale or Quantum of Solace would be my grail car. I just can bear to part with the Jag or the additional cash required to own an AM. More likely I will change to a late 2014 XK Dynamic R. A more modern twist on the XKR with a more luxurious cabin with those diamond quilted sports seats.

I have the 5.0 litre XK Artisan Special coupe. The five litre normally aspirated XK is actually a bit of a hidden gem, because at 385bhp it is quite powerful enough, but less complicated and with slightly better economy than the XKR. The Artisan Special interior really does look and feel special. As a continental tourer it is hard to beat, as it has adequate luggage space and the back seats can be used to take soft bags.

Hate to say it, but Ford had bought 75% of Aston in 1987, which is why the last 'proper' Aston, the V8 coupe based on the Virage. That explains the steering wheel etc. Also, the V12 was developed by Cosworth, but was based on the Ford V6, which was in turn based on the Mazda K Series, which was originally developed with Porsche.

I bought a face lift 2010 X150 XKR coupe after test driving the DB9, Mazzer GT as options - on my second (1st was sadly written off by a berk in a Toyota Hi Lux 'sneezing') just love em. The Mazzer was WAY too slow & the Aston(s) didn't feel honestly much different. Thinking of getting the wife a carbrio, she loves the F-Type but it has no rear seats so our dog wouldn't fit & to be fair it is the same platform shortened 🙂

£24k seems an awful lot for any non-special XKR. This summer I bought a faultless 49k miles 4.2 XKR Convertible from a dealer (for £17k), and had the supercharger pulley and remap done. It now puts out the same power and torque as the 5.0 XKR. That was about £1200. Unbelievable value, and leggy ones can be had for well under £10k now.

This mid-engined Ferrari chaser Aston was, I think, going to to share a lot of commonality with Jaguar's X600 programme, which had gone from a mid-engined concept, to front engined concept to cancelled project. That was going to use a superchared 3.0 X-Type V6, also to be used in an X-Type R but the whole lot got binned.
