The purpose of the flywheel key is to help with alignment while torqueing the bolt. Try some red locktite on the tapered interface. I suspect the torque was inadequate. I've found GM compressors don't all accept same size fasteners, sometimes metric and others, sae.

I got it fixed today with the brass insert but still not running right. see the next video documentary production when I post it today. thanks.
The key just locates the flywheel for ignition timing, the taper drives it. Try lapping the tapers together for a better fit.
And fit the tapers clean and dry, no grease, loctite, etc.
