    The SITES Spectre was imported into the US primarily as a semiautomatic pistol - but it was really designed to be an SMG. It has an interesting closed-bolt fire control system, and in SMG for a metal top folding stock. Thanks to DSA, I have the opportunity to take one of these out to the range to try out!
    Here's my previous video on the pistol version:

    It's not the recoil that moves the selector, but the release of the trigger. They rotates on a common axis, and probably, in 35 years of overuse, the bit that took the selector in place loosened.

    • @benjaminshropshire2900
      @benjaminshropshire2900 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Most of the time when he ran out of ammo, the selector didn't move. I suspect that it's actually both.
      It might be that the selector can't move while the trigger is pulled and that last round while the trigger is being released is a big part of what's going on?

    • @HappyBeezerStudios
      @HappyBeezerStudios ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Sounds like something that can be fixed rather easily. At best it's just tightening a screw or nut and at worst it's bending a piece of metal back into position

      @@benjaminshropshire2900On the mag dump at the end you can see that he lets the trigger go well after the gun settled. The amount of rotation there is purely due to the trigger being released.

  • @Zach_Hazard
    @Zach_Hazard ปีที่แล้ว +63

    It's neat that during the mag dump at the end of the video, the shells are coming out at nearly the same framerate as the camera, so they look like they're just kinda floating outside of the gun

    I got the opportunity to shoot I believe the first one that was ever imported into the country. I was working at a gun shop when the representative came by to show us the gun. I did not have that problem with the selector switch, and the weapon did have an issue with some of the early ones with not wanting to fire when the magazine was fully loaded you had to short load the magazine by 3 to about five rounds.
    But that could have been the fact that the magazines we had were brand-spanking-new and hadn't quite achieved their first yield Point yet. I found it a fascinating weapon, but it did fire of it fast just like the one you're showing. It was quite a nice gun

    I just watched Léon: The Professional a few days ago, and one of the drug dealers that Léon and Mathilda are trying to bust uses a Spectre to defend himself, before he gets killed by Léon with a hand grenade. Many people probably see the gun as a bit generic, but I always liked the design.

      It's actually a misconception that the dude had one of these, what that scene was, was Leon remembering the sound of his own Spectre being charged, so when he heard another subgun being loaded, he knew what to expect.

    only a half way there video, it has a decocker lever thats why that moves roberto teppa did design it to be carried safe with a rnd in the chamber, closed bolt design so the first rnd would be fired in double action then the multiple parts closed bolt fire as in a usual smg. he recon the problems with the open bolt beretta m12 (s) models used by the local police back then where he lived in ltaly. the barrel uses a spl rifling to create a less accurate shooting for a more smg spreading effect opposing the fast cyclic rate and high accuracy by the closed bolt system. that was a problem by the semi auto versions, accuracy was never good on these. some got altered to use swiss made suomi coffin mags as the orig mags where hard to get eaven back then!

    • @swissbianco
      @swissbianco ปีที่แล้ว

      also the multi part bolt system did cool the action and the barrel down in a sucking blow motion that after fire 50 rnd at once full auto the chamber area of the barrel was only luke warm.

    Wish he opened it up so we could compare the insides. I wonder if he could see the sights when he fired it with the stock closed. I'm guessing yes since he didn't mention it. With the repro stock I've got the latch for the folding buttplate is longer, compared to it being more square on the actual, and because of that it actually blocks the sights when folded shut. I also wonder if the full-auto selector on this was missing something that was causing it to rotate, which it actually seemed to rotate only as he release the trigger.

    Why does it have angled stock? Sure it lifts the sights, but that doesn't look too necessary and for fast shooting smg I'd think you'd benefit a lot from straight transfer without momentum that lifts the barrel up. It also looks silly like that on top of the functional things. Spectre itself makes me think of M5K, which is quite a cool gun. I'm sure that front grip helps quite a lot with vertical pull. That being said, either you're just so experienced or it doesn't kick up that much, because you hold the barrel in line quite neatly and in the video it goes more backwards than upwards. So it could be that my thought is just wrong about the stock in context of this gun.
    One thing I've been wondering about. Fallout 1 & 2 games have this "10 mm submachine gun" that looks very generic, no stock and heavy body. It's used one-handed. I was wondering if there exists a real submachine gun that could fit as inspiration to that gun. If someone would know, it's probably Ian.
