Another film series like Rambo and Die Hard is Lethal Weapon. The first movie has some dark themes, Mel Gibson’s character attempts suicide several times, there’s torture, implied rape, some brutal stuff. Then the next 3 movies are like Rush Hour level comedy action films, without a hint of darkness.
to be fair, saw and all its sequels do tie in to the original movie (as well as it sequels). the movies have a very intricate and detailed story beyond just 'oh your in a room now try to get out.'. i think in the case of saw, having 7 sequels isnt really a bad thing since they do it pretty well
+contro11erhog The saw sequels are not good, and they just kept coming up with impossible things since the main villain had died 3 movies in. It's called milking a series.
Derrick articulates the phenomenon of contemporaneously occurring horror sequels really well
kinda mega strange
Sometimes... in the right light... With the right face... Rocco looks like Biggie Smalls.

+contro11erhog In most franchises it's pretty bad. Even really bad horror movies like hellraiser got a ton of sequels
