I have a suggestion, when you get to that stage, for dealing with the turbo heat, make a double firewall, with a minimum of 1/2" air gap between the sheet metal. Its basically a thermos. It'll take some bending and welding, but you can make a really good insulated pocket around the turbo, and it'll prevent like 80% of the heat from transferring inside the cabin. Build it like 4" past the turbo on all the sides you can. then you can use your peel n seal and heat barrier and not worry about liquefying the butyl black goop of the peel n seal.
Was thinking I hadn't seen anything of yours for a long time and then noticed no uploads for 2 years. Where ever you are hope life is treating you well.
Playing the 'Hallelujah Chorus' from Handel's Messiah, as you sawed through the fire wall, that's the sounds of victory, fantastic. Thanks great video!
I hope you come back soon, man!! I wanna see more 1G content. I just got my 1990 GST running... it still needs a lot of work tho.. But man I wish I had yours. It's AWD, and you've already replaced most things. lol
I saw there was a Ford solenoid under the bug above the starter, perfect for anti theft device when you wire a switch that you wire to the starter as a kill switch. Following and sharing! ✌
I'm surprised at how many people don't take pictures during disassembly. I saw you snap a few pics of the wiring. My project took so long, I had to flip through physical photos of the old parts. Wiring isn't all that difficult, it's just intimidating. Break each system down into its parts, and it's pretty easy. I have some pieces of my own harness mod that I should splice together for the interwebs.
Agreed. Wiring looks intimidating when its de-loomed. But if you have the wiring diagram, and label each plug you need, then its not that bad. I'm going to be building a new harness eventually for my 2012 caprice, that's getting an LSA clone, with a totally different ECU that is has now. So I'll be combining 3 harnesses, and re-terminating nearly everything, one off a ZL1 Camaro, my current L77 harness, and my transmission harness.
Please please please keep this going! As someone who's owned seven first gen turbo legacy's and a Subaru mechanic who has a friend wanting me to do this to their bug I want more videos!
I saw an Instagram comment he made a few years ago the car is complete, but he has been very busy raising his baby. didn't say if he was releasing more videos. don't know what he did but most guys run radiators DeLorean front style while some run side mount half rads.
KEP adapter owner... check the factory flywheel bolt length v new flywheel. OEM flywheel was THICKER than kep flywheel and therefor bolts were a few mm too long. this caused crank and flywheel to friction weld themselves together.
I'm not sure if this something you are interested in, bit if you happen to be stuck taking care of the kiddo and can't really take your eyes off'm, could you maybe maybe do a FAQ video or give advice on tuning? Just some ideas for content and getting a little money in your pocket. Idk if this manageable to multi task like this but that's my 2 cents. Glad you're back👍
This is awesome! I imagine when I start my project it will take this long (I hope not but you know how these things go!) New subscriber, keep up the good work bro!
I really hope your using the subigears type 1 adapter. And a kaferbar. Your gonna bend the framehornevfrom weight and your gonna wreck clutch every month if you aren’t supporting front of motor with plate. Call Kennedy and ask. They stress not to just do this setup your gonna run into major issues
This is great and all absolutely love it did you eventually going to have change a transmission out and if you could I try to get a Porsche transmission
That sedan trans is not long for this world. Driving conservatively and not breaking anything I get 2 seasons out of a bus trans before the main shaft bearing is wasted. Gotta love Subaru’s lol
Still kind of salty a first gen Legacy was harmed in the making of this production, but I'll get over it. Nice stache! Speaking of first, jack up your car, MCM's first vid to hit 10M views is Project Daisy the STI powered sleeper Bug. Hopefully this project does well for your channel too. Good progress. Looking forward to more as always.
@@VelocityLabs ahah i know the struggle! parts are expensive and time invested in the car is time not making money, so a double loose. The most important thing is that you enjoy it!
the clutch after the adapter plate is from the bug, right? so its like subaru engine - adapterplate - adapterplate flywheel - bug clutch - bug transmission..?

I’m buying one of two cars a 1gen TSI AWD both for $3500 the 1st one is a rebuilt motor with 20k on it with 450hp and a lot of Cx racing parts wb455 injectors 1150cc......or a fresh rebuilt motor bore .40+ with just a 16g turbo for upgrade and everything else more less stock... that you think Best Buy or what to do get ?????
Fun seeing the real life stuff that happens when you don't have more money to throw at something than you know what to do with. Bummer about the harness.
Dude awesome vid ! I've got my engine in and running. What are you thinking about steering , mine drives really bad , not sure where to go now. I've changed all the suspension on the bug along with new springs etc , all the steering etc bushes underneath are poly , new wheels tyres etc. It's a bit erratic , so looking for coaching on how to get it under control. Thanks dude
Nice!! I have NO IDEA lol , mine isn't evening running yet so I'm sure I'll have the same problems as you. If you figure anything out let me know! Do you have an instagram or anything I can follow?
Probably not enough weight in the front of the car. You're putting a big heavy engine with tons more horse power in the back and the beetle just wasn't designed for that.
Tools you'll need: 1 Baby monitor, Metric ratchet set, Impact gun ...
This x100!!!! That's where all my time and money goes lol
@@VelocityLabs thanks for the great video!

It is much easier to cut out the firewall and move it forward. Then you have created a space to put the radiator (with two pull thru fans).
