    I did this (using screws instead of nails) and the lumber alone cost $100. Still affordable compared to buying the island itself, but just for anyone looking to build this today... it’s not $20!

      You can buy discounted lumber from box stores and it can be cheap.

      Lumber went up in the last 8 yrs n what kinda wood did ya buy of course it probably did. 😂 I did it n it cost me less than 100 for the whole bed. 😊

      It's mind blowing that a decade ago it only cost $15-30 to make this with new store bought lumber.

    This is so easy n I can even make a coffee table and rustic end tables like this with shorter legs n even a smaller table and make bar chairs with thick seats from an old bed mattress that has very thick sift foam in it. Thank you so easy I gave a set of drills and a picket jig. This us what I'll do and I can make it by myself. I lost all my furniture. You just made my day. I'm starting over and I don't have alot so I gotta do budget friendly fast n easy builds. I can use this in NY small living room fur a small table to sit at by the window when mom or the kids come over for coffee. I can build an island to separate the kitchen n make all 3 rustic . I love this
    You just made me so happy I was feeling so bad. 😊 u rock

    I love this - I can easily modify this to be a DIY outdoor dining table (it’s just need to be longer) but looks wise and color wise it’s essentially the design I need and most importantly it’s simplistic. Love this.

    I just made this. My first wood project. I needed a quick tv stand. I used all pine and I added a 4th 1 x 4 on the bottom and 4 across to make a bottom shelf. It looks pretty good! Thanks

    I just finished making this table and love it! I used untreated red pine 4x4s for the legs instead. I also used screws instead of nails in case I needed to take off the legs for some reason in the future. It turned out really beautiful. Definitely not $20 tho - more like 60-70. Thanks for the fun project!

    • @mist4926
      @mist4926 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Soapzies on a smaller scale I bet you can use 2×4s for the legs and get away from the pressure treated 4×4 he used that everyone is saying not to use in house. sounds great love to see how it turns out

  • @janmyers
    @janmyers 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    Thanks for the video! I was shocked to see the piece put together without screws and wood glue and more shocked at the pressure treated 4x4's. But it's a great piece for me to make a couple for my craft room and put them on wheels. Along with an additional shelf, I can adjust the build with regular 4x4's and add the glue and screws. Thanks for the ideas!

    Thanks, I did this project and wanted to have a high table for my garage. Total cost was about $85. I also added in 4 wheels on the legs which did cost me an additional 20 bucks. While attached the legs to the frame, i figured that 2.5" screws worked better

    is clear to see that the two of you have similar style of building. nice to see the cohesion. is a great looking table. the only thing for me, like so many others, is those legs. seal them real good and i'd add a bit more support in the connection to the top. nails wiggle loose over time so maybe a few screws. loved the video so keep them coming. thanks :D

    I'm looking to build an inexpensive desk to use while teleworking. I will do this one but make the legs shorter down to 29-30 and account for the top thickness. I like the pipe table but it's a little costly for the short time I need it. Thank you!

    Thanks so much for this. I built it pub table height and am looking for appropriate-sized stools. Used sturdy deck screws too rather than nails. Stained it "Sedona Red" and placed it against a wall painted "Hey Honey," with three paintings of cardinals above it. The range of reds and honey-colored wall look so great together and the table is a great height where I can stand and eat or pull up a stool and work/eat/drink a beer with bros. Not $50, by any means, but not a bank-buster either.

    @James Smith I work in the Lumber department at home depot. I'm allergic to pressure treated lumber, but I have to handle it anyway so I know exactly what it looks it. Here in the Midwest it's green, I hear it's brown in other parts of the country.

    I came across your channel, I was so impressed with this video, and I recently moved. I bought a kitchen table/chairs, but the table is too big for my place, I couldn't get it through the front door. When I saw this video, and I watched it about 5 times ( I said to myself, l can do it) yesterday on my way home I stopped at Home Depot , they have assortment of wood marked down to 70% , since I have a smaller kitchen my project will be a little smaller by 2 feet. I got all the wood for $20 ( they will cut the wood for free) nails were $3ish, they have nails with wood glue on the end. I will take a before/after picture. I have to go back and pickup stain stuff to painted it or I might use chalk paint, I have some left over from another project, I also have x-fine sandpaper.

    I Like all of your projects a lot, standard lumber, no ripping of boards, and almost no expensive tools required. Do you have any reservations about using treated lumber indoors? I would probably use cedar or untreated Douglass Fir or Hemlock if available When treated lumber is used I would cut and sand it outside while wearing a dust mask. The "brown" treated is supposed to be less toxic than the older "green" treated, but......

    I love this! I'm going to build it with some slight additions. I'm adding half a shelf to place baskets/drawers for extra storage and a kitchen rack with S hooks to hang pots and pans. A question though....the 4x1s on the bottom look like they are about 8" from the ground, if you were to put them higher, I'm thinking like 16"-20" off the ground, would that mess with the stability of the island?

    I would have recommended using a good wood glue in addition to the nails. A kitchen island gets a lot of use, and can work itself loose. I would have chosen screws over nails as well.

    Love it. I’ve been looking for a counter top table, those are very expensive. This one will definitely be my next project. Thanks for the idea!

    Well designed projects for young people on a budget. Even your typography is well designed. Cool music and you look like a nice couple - well done both, for all your videos.

    I am going to try this. My husband said it's not a good idea because I don't normally build things. I can however, follow directions and can run a saw, so I'm going to attempt it. Except I think I'll use screws because I'm afraid of denting the wood with my clumsy hammering. Wish me luck!

    First and foremost, I want to let you know that I love your videos, particularly with the breakdown of what materials are needed. I have made both the headboard and this island. Although this states it is $20 in materials, I paid $60 at my local lumber store. I would highly suggest using screws for the entire project, not nails (especially for the 4x4 legs). I haven't stained it yet as the only 4x4's available to me were "treated", so they will have to dry before I can sand and stain. I love the tutorials and the projects you come up with. Simple and easy to follow for "beginners" working with wood. Obviously professional woodworkers would cringe about nails being used.I would suggest not including a "cost" with your projects because unless you're getting the lumber for free, the prices vary all over the US and outside and will typically cost the average person double (if not more) to make these items.Thanks again!
