    I put a "like" button as the opening credits ran. Hey, Bill, last week in downtown Seattle I saw an older gent with his wife and a 'Lions Drag Strip' jacket and I mentioned that I used to go there as a kid.
    He said, 'only us old guys know about Lions.'
    At 1:18 Rod McCarrel, and the entire crew is recognised, especially details by Prieto, mentions a universal observation----"We took it for granted." (That it would always be like this.)
    Same mistake here.
    Skipping elimination day at the '79 Fallantionals at SIR after the thunderous, mostly Western T/F and F/C throwdown in qualifying Saturday; leaving '83 OCIR 'Finals before the Lombardo/Force final, and leaving the '84 Pomona 'Finals before the Garlits/Beck final, "to beat the crowd out of the gate."
    The nitro did seem like it would always go on, altough by the early 80s there was some regional attrition.

    Gordon Tatum (of later Gordon and Tripp Tatum) bought the Surfers 2, what a small world.
    A 1988-89 SS&DI article about Al Swindahl and his shop on Washington Ave. in Tacoma, a block from South Tacoma Way, showed a picture of side-by-side frames, according to the caption, being built for both Tatums, where I first heard of them.
    Everybody involved in these documentaries has contributed some real information about 60s
    SoCal AA/FD racing. I was very lucky to see those days (mostly nights) at Lions from '67-'70.

    What a amazing time in history !
    Thank you for all the hard work and every body who contributed,Racers,Fans & Friends.
    The information about the fuel injection and nozzle design has helped me understand more about the mechanical fuel injection that i still know so little about.

    Great stuff! Love it. Thanks to all. I mentioned these videos to a fellow racer, and he said, "Sorokin was one of those guys". So all us Easterners aren't clueless. LOL!!! Heading to the NHRA Pennsylvania Dutch Classic, at Maple Grove, in the morning.

    A Walt Stevens segment would be cool, with some AMT Piranha (Dead End Kids, Milodon Original mechanic Joe Anahory the engine man on a paid tour) and Freight Train stories.
    And the Downey-based Poacher before Jack McCloud started driving.
    Thanks for all these documentaries and history about all the different racers involved.

    Bittersweet to see this series ending, thanks Bill Pitts. Do you have any future series planned? A question I have is why did the new "Surfer-Car" have an idler pulley on the blower drive?

    • @vintagedragsters
      @vintagedragsters  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Jerry. I think it was because Jobe wanted to make it easy for the Bandel Brothers. Shimming up the blower to eliminate the pulley, was just too much to expect those guys to want to deal with.

  • @tomp538

    Question: Are the Bandel brothers affiliated with Bandel Manufacturing, on ALGER STREET, up in L.A.?

    Does "Surfers 2" still exist?

    • @vintagedragsters
      @vintagedragsters  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, Doug. It does exist and is currently owned by Tom Hanna.
