Whether you love musical theatre or hate it (I'm honestly not a fan), the actors who embrace it and continue to entertain within it alongside their TV and film careers are very frequently our finest performers. You can theorize about that all you like, but I think the reality is that musical theatre actors are true entertainers who perform for the love of the craft and embody its best attributes.
Also, I know what I just said, but the 'heads will know that THAT was an impressive off-the-dome performance of "Rock Island". He knows the whole routine and he is not in that number.

I think it's because there's a huge difference between being on stage live in front of people and being filmed for a movie. So I'd say the theory you stated with the musical actors has to include theater-actors, too. It's honest, immediate response to what you say and do. With, of course, in musical the added difficulty to act AND sing.
Hugh Jackman is such a huge talent, His commitment to his craft is just unsurpassed. His work ethic gives his audiences so many smiles as we watch him either on stage or in his many films. (His outstanding performance - and literal transformation body-wise - in Les Miserables should have been a lock for an Oscar!). Thank you Hugh!
I just saw him today in the Music Man. He came to the stage door and was so warm and gracious to everyone standing there. You can just tell what a good person he is. And he was fabulous in the show!
He wasn't kidding though. I remember an interview from forever ago when he was starting to break out as a film star and he was doing a stage version of Oklahoma! He said he tried a few different ways to get it and eventually he just mimicked what another performer did. He has to put so much into these performances which shows his true commitment and you appreciate him all the more for it.

I went to see his one man show in 2019 and it was tremendous. 2 hour show and he was non stop. It would be great to see him live, but I agree, a staggering amount of money. That doesn't include airfare, hotel stay, food, etc.

It's similar to another Hugh Jackman musical role, when he portrayed one of the most vile and disgusting mountebanks to ever run a variety show (in The Greatest Showman), but as the character is written in the movie he's enjoyable to watch.
When you hear him quickly recite the lyrics at 5:35 all happy and everything, it does feel like his talents were wasted on playing Wolverine all this time, where the highest of dialogues he had to work with were "F@ck off" and "Hey Bob". And yet, if he could cameo as Old Man Logan or Wolverine in a Multiverse thing of the MCU, I would freaking cream myself from awesomeness overload.
He is best known for Wolverine, but he has played many different parts over the years, and has consistently returned to the stage every few years. I appreciate how much he still challenges himself as a performer. One of the best! 😊
I remember watching the movie Swordfish back when it came out and the first X-Men movie and I thought, “This Hugh guy is pretty good, he’s got a good cast around here. He feels out of place.” That didn’t age well. Hugh is amazing.

I tried tap dancing when I was younger. I was surprised by how much of a workout some of those routines could give you. When you go right into some of the faster tap dances, you feel like you just went on a run. There were moments when I was literally out of breath. Good exercise.

I was part of a college production of Music Man, and Hugh gave me some deep nostalgia there. I was in the barbershop quartet and helped on stage building/painting.
I love, love, love, Hugh Jackman. The first time I saw him on stage, he was playing Peter Allen. The Boy From Oz. He was fabulous and has never stopped. He's just such a genuine person, and that makes him even better.

One doesn't have to go to art school/dance studio/vocal training to be good at any of them. I tried tap dancing when I was younger. I was surprised by how much of a workout some of those routines could give you. When you go right into some of the faster tap dances, you feel like you just went on a run. There were moments when I was literally out of breath. Good exercise.

GlasPigen - I didn't see that at all. To me, it seemed that the audience was in reverent awe of him, and eager to participate in the song and dance routines.
“Australian humour” your humour is garbage then. Hugh Jackman lives in NYC, not in your country, so I’m pretty sure his humour is pretty well known in the city and the U.S.
I think New Yorkers are probably pretty well versed in sarcasm.

Hugh Jackman is my all time favourite actor/ entertainer. He is frankly good at everything….even baking bread apparently. I have seen him in everything (films/ musicals/ his own show) and have been patiently waiting for Music Man since before the pandemic. The minute he announced he was going back to Broadway I was on it. My flights to the USA are booked. Woohoo!!! 🙌🏻 🎉 BTW if you are a fan of his and you haven’t seen the movie ‘Australia’ go watch it now. It is my favourite HJ movie, by Baz Luhrman….but I love all Baz Luhrman‘a work. It’s HJ and my favourite actress (coincidentally) Nicole Kidman. For some reason no one I mention it to has ever seen it. All I can say is wait for the scene with him in the tuxedo when he arrives to the party. Dear Lord I almost fainted. 👀 You can thank me later 😉
