I think Keratoconus needs far more exposure, especially here in Europe. It is rarely recognised for what it is and when it is diagnosed it is often too late. Cateracts, glaucoma are all recognised but Keratoconus isn't. Luckily I have an 18mm scleral lens for my right eye but it's taken good practice and technique to get the lens to be comfortable. They aren't the easiest forms of treatment in terms of wear. Unfortunately I need surgery in the left eye. Corneaplasty. I like watching your videos, very insightful.
I wish there was a foundation to help me get my scleral lens again I paid $2,800 for the first pair and I don't have insurance because my vision is getting worse but he seems like a really good doctor
Hi there, I’ve just recently come across this yt account, I’m a 37 yo wife, mother & business owner. I’m also the recipient of a double cornea graft. Left eye was 09’ right eye 2017. I was diagnosed with kc in 2006/7, my occupation has been a very successful nail technician for the past 21 years & owning my own business for 11 of those years. As you can imagine not only is my eyesight extremely important but the dust & chemicals that follow arnt ideal. I had tried hard contact in both before resorting to the donor transplant but just wasn’t a great fit for myself. I now wear strong prescription glasses & have had a little trouble with the newer of the 2 donor corneas in the way of rejection but was successfully reversed with medication (drops) unfortunately my left cornea (old faithful) is showing signs of rejection as of a few hours ago so an emergency appointment with my ophthalmologist in the morning. I’m in Australia & although it’s been a wild ride I’m so very grateful to both my donors & there families for giving me the gift of sight. I’ll be forever thankful.
It is a great honor for me because I saw this very useful video, especially appreciation and respect to you sir. All I hope you will be near to help me get rid of a hard life full of despair and frustration that kills me every day, because of what I suffer from.😔
Your video is great but the music could be a bit lower so I can focus better on your message. Your explanation was professional. Keep up the great work!! 🎉
Thank you for doing what you do. You obviously have empathy for people who can not see due to keratoconus. I have had my scleral lens for one week now. My Dr was awesome got a great fit for me. I am very happy with them. I don't even feel them in. I'm just trying to get used to inserting them and getting them out. The other thing is I really would like to get glasses for night time before bed when I watch t.v. because I don't want to accidentally fall asleep with them in. So I'm glad you explained that can be an option.
@@education4soul mine was €310 for one eye here in Europe. Add on the saline and cleaning solution of your choice and chair time (fitting and follow ups) it's very expensive. The lenses last between 18 - 24 months depending on materials and manufacturing.
I had radial keratotomy with two enhancements back when I was 35. . When I turned 70 I got cataract surgery. they got the wrong power lens in my right eye and had to do a lens exchange. During the lens exchange, they ripped my iris so I had to go to a specialist to repair the iris in my right eye. As a Result of all the damage to my cornea, they had to fit me with scleral lenses. With scleral lenses My lenses fog up every two hours so I have to take them out and clean them. After I wear my scleral lenses for any length of time and then remove them I can no longer focus using my regular glasses. it takes almost 5 days for the somewhat of a recovery. What a mess!
I’m sick and tired of Scleral lenses vision is inconsistent. There is just too many problems my vision is always hazy. I rarely have clear vision looking through liquid filled contacts creates a lot of vision problems. I’ve worn these for years I wish I could get out of them.
I prefer RGP lenses over Scleral lenses. Sclerals surely have better vision but they made my eyes way too tired since they fit too tight to hold saline solution inside.
I'm a Scleral lens wearer and it's taken me a long time to get them to be comfortable. Initially I wasn't applying enough pressure when fitting so the lip was catching on my eye lids and it was also fogging. Now I can wear for up to 16hrs a day but it's a large lens and at the end of the day I know I'm wearing it and it's time to take it out when it starts to irritate. Unfortunately I have no option for mine.
Hey Im a keratokonus patient from europe and Im wearing scleral lense currently for something around 6 months. My doctor made a "map" scan of my cornea but in my country, theres no place that has the technology to do the scleral topography. My eyes are getting irritated from the lenses after like 4hours and I have to take a break from wearing them for several days, because the irritation is lasting somewhere betwen 2-5 days. My doctor is telling me that its a reaction to the material, but I do think that its actually just poor fit. I was asking him if he can adjust the lenses but he wants me to try soft contacts instead. Im currently looking for a new optometrist, that would be able to help me. Do you think it is possible for them to adjust my sclerals so they will be comfortable, or I should just look for a different solution? (Im from Czech republic). Thank you for your answer.
Hello i am mother of 2 kids aged 28 I'm suffering astigmatism with keratoconus did my cross linking surgery on right eye in Aug 2022 now doctor told me i have to use hard lenses for better vision i need help from Singapore thanks 🙏🏻😭💔
Ok so all these contact lens helps you see but it doesn’t stop keratoconus, it’s just a temporary fix before you go blind, intacs and cross linking are the ones that should help you, I just did mine with dr Brian boxer wachler in Beverly Hills, intacs pretty much pushes back that bulge of the cornea from KC and boxer’s version of cross linking (Holcomb c3r) strengthens ur cornea and stops the progression
amazing video...so well explained !!! question for u if u dont mind, i know the cornea isn't' vascularized and receives its nourishment from the environment(oxygen) and the tears. Would scleral contact lines deprive the cornea of this ? if i am not mistaken, sclerals are a type of RGP, meaning they allow oxygen to pass thru. but what about the nutrition and factors in the tears.... thank you
One question, pls someone...:) : Do wearing lenses slower/faster the progression, or they have no affect on progression "only" for help the vision. I'm asking cos I would rather accept to see blurry, than worsen the keratoconus with lenses.
This is actually awful. Is like putting a person in crutches for the rest of their lives. I have kc and trust me being in contacts is depressing. Luckily there's few doctors that believe that a kc person could see without glasses. I got the athens protocol and i don't wear contacts anymore. I feel extremely blessed.
@@nkob6666 i actually got my intacts removed on a monday. Then on Thursday I got prk first and then the crosslinking after that. Don't ever do intacts they don't do shit. I can tell you from experience.
Fitting scleral contacts is the worst 😢. I don’t wear mine because they are so uncomfortable. I have really dry eyes too. I’ve done flow procedure and 4 permanent plugs. Where are you located in ready to come see you
If i got the Crosslinking intervention and I after it, my sight on the left eye went to a -4 from a -6, can I use glasses? I tryed to use rigid contact lense but it hurts a lot and 2 or 3 times it slipped under my eye. They are not made for me.. Regards! :)
Scleral lenses after Corneal Crosslinking are the way to go! We have many patients that are correctable to 20/20 with scleral lenses after cross linking and their vision is great. Especially compared to rigid contact lenses, the scleral lenses are much more comfortable and stable. Most likely you will achieve only suboptimal vision with glasses. Glasses often don't give you the crisp quality of vision that you could achieve with contact lenses. - Dr. Lam
I wish u were my doctor, mine literally told me its ur fault that u have keratoconus and didn't have a checkup before , prescribed me a -13/-11 glasses and told me come after six months ( first time ever going to an eye doc) 30 yo btw
