  • On this episode of Fish Quest, we teamed up with ‪@JohnsonsOutdoorAdventures‬ as we hit the backwaters of Idaho in search of Northern Pikeminnow, jumbo crawfish and White Sturgeon
    I have three goals for this episode:
    1) catch a squawfish(N. Pikeminnow) to use as crawfish bait.
    2) catch jumbo crawfish for a crawfish boil.
    3) help ‪@JohnsonsOutdoorAdventures‬ land a sturgeon over 3ft.

    Looks like you could throw a saddle on some of those and ride them up and down the river.

    What rod are you using for the Sturgeon?

    • @FishQuest
      @FishQuest  ปีที่แล้ว

      @The Brand, in the video we are using Okuma Sst Sturgeon rods. I don’t believe that okuma makes the same model anymore. I will probably be buying a 12’ ugly stik big water and modifying it to have a longer handle for bank fighting sturgeon.

      @@FishQuest You have to tell them WHY you're having to buy another rod 🤣😂🤣😂

      @@mancini8800 thanks for being my 1000th and thanks for the compliment! It means a lot. We’ve had great success most anywhere along the snake especially in stretches of river that have large rocks for shelter. I don’t think I’ve been skunked anywhere in the snake for crawfish! Best of luck! We have some new videos out this week!

    Pretty sure those crawfish traps are not legal in Idaho (funny considering they're made there). They have to be closed with a natural material that will decay and cause the trap to open (become ineffective) should they be lost (don't want zombie traps). Those do not appear to do that.

      From the 2024 Idaho Fishing Proclamation:
      Trapping or Seining Minnows and Crayfish: All game fish (except yellow perch) and protected nongame fish incidentally taken while trapping or seining must be immediately released alive. Nongame fish (minnows), yellow perch, and crayhish may be taken only in waters open to fishing; provided the seine or net does not exceed ten (10) feet in length or width, and nets and seines must have three-eighths (3/8) inch square or smaller mesh; and the minnow or crayfish trap does not exceed two (2) feet in length, width or height. If the trap is of irregular dimension, but its volume does not exceed the volume of an eight (8) cubic foot trap, it is also legal to use. Nets and seines may not be left unattended. Traps must be checked at least every forty-eight (48) hours. All traps must have a tag attached bearing the owner's name and address.
      All fish so taken must immediately be killed except where stated otherwise. Crayfish may be kept alive to be used as bait only on the water where captured. Nongame fish and crayfish may only be taken during the season set for the taking of game fish in
      those waters.
      Only five (5) crayfish traps can be fished with a valid fishing license. If more than five traps are used at one time, you must obtain a Commercial Fishing License and trap tags.
      It is illegal to destroy, disturb, or remove any traps belonging to others.

    Should add squawfish are invasive

    • @jasonhurdlow6607
      @jasonhurdlow6607 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No, they're native actually. They manage them to reduce, not eliminate them.

    • @PNWVETS
      @PNWVETS 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jasonhurdlow6607 they're native to the Columbia, but were rarely in the tributaries until the dams were built. Slowing the rivers allows them to move upstream in to tributaries where they breed in reservoirs and become excessively large.
