For those of you not familiar with "The Essential Mix", In the UK BBC Radio 1's Pete Tong invites an artist to do a mix for his show every week. The great and the good have all had a go, from Eric Prydz to Tod Terje, and sometimes they've done it twice. I've been texting into the show for 5 years begging them to get Böhmer on. My joy at hearing the news he was coming on was difficult to put into words. He very rarely plays other people's music in a DJ setup so this is magic. An insight into his likes like no other.

That one is the best I’ve ever seen and heard. The set from the hot air balloon, right? Even my six year old son loves to watch that, and may have inspired a young DJ.
That Cercle hot air balloon set is one of my all-time favourites. Cannot believe they let a drone fly around those balloons, pilot has balls of steal.
Ben must know that underneath his artist layer is a scientist and physician of the soul.

The fact that he included Jon Hopkins in the mix only makes me a bigger fan.
That ambient mix of In Memoriam at 1:54:34 could be the track of the century, hands down.
No one just 'listens' to Ben's music... they 'feel it' inside as well. Incredible. Magnificent. He has the gift of sound waves, literately. He understands the invisible and brings it out in music..

Ben barely plays sets with other artists music (usually plays his own only), so this is a great treat! shows you what he likes and where he finds inspiration to his sounds and style. Essential Mixes are just that...Essential. This was magical to listen to.

What a beautiful mix, he's done it again!
The ambient version of In Memoriam put me beyond words. It has been my favourite song for a long time but to hear it played with the pitch shifted and without percussion, it brought me back to the first time I heard it and it's already a nostalgic song to begin with.
Years down the line i would like to tell my children and grandchildren that i lived my life listening to this legend day in n day out... ♥️

So glad that he included Sascha Funke Mango. I had not heard it in years and it was essentially lost to me because I didn’t know who the artist was.
He really knows how his way into the sonic spectrum with all this intertwining pads, synths and melodies. And also the way he plays with dynamics, quiet sounds, then loud. Very classical in that sense. Very different from the usual mainstream electronic dance music we got used to. That’s why it’s beautiful.
Ben is a real gifted talent... In my opinion, music such as is currently playing, is better than classical music. There are much more sonic possibilities - far more, indeed infinite! Classical music is limited by the instrumentation; no such hindrances in the various genres of electronica. The music just keeps on developing, Ben is one of the pioneers - forever finding and developing new sounds and structures. What the future holds, music wise, we can only dream, but it's likely to continue to evolve and become even more amazing that it is currently... Just got to keep listening!

Is it just me, or do you not just add whatever new release or set [[ by Ben Bohmer ]] is posted to your own [[disorganized chaotic version of some type of "Favourites" Playlist(s)]] automatically and without thinking (or by reason, giving any probability) that your biased AUTO-ADDING to "Billy Bo Bob's BESTS" playlist(s) or whatever the [[ Insert favourite expletive here ]] would ever be the wrong decision? I just think even half-asleep on a really off-day Ben would make it work and 99% wouldn't have a clue he was even off his game. This will be an epic listen, so happy this is already safely added to my out-of-control, forever exponentially expanding spider-web of organizational chaos and never-ending, seemingly-infinite list of "Instantly Created while at the same time being Instantly forgotten - while NEVER EVER EVEN FOR A SECOND - NEVER - UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES taking even 1 minute - for the purposes of organizing your playlists or even thinking about anything possibly relating to that lol... Just me I'm guessing lol...
Ben Böhmer - I don't like boring monotonous beats, I don't like voices in songs that are demonic, snake-like, slimy, nor those of cows and bulls.
I like the dynamics with melodies and beats that meaningfully suggest the atmosphere
