*Red Faction's Railgun,* is the closest one I've seen to the movie Eraser. And the one I was expecting you to mention. One has to reload after every shot. But it does have the same X-Ray like scope which allows to hit enemies through walls, just like in the movie. Shadow Warriors Railgun sounds like the CORE Rapier gunship rocket from Total Annihilation. But it was the Quake II's Railgun the one that captured me. Especially with that legendary sound effect.

The Phalanx is the most disappointing railgun I've ever played with. Not because it's bad - on the contrary, it's REALLY good, maybe even _too_ good, you can main this baby from halfway through The Reckoning and onward -, but because it sounds weak (seriously, is that a zipper sound?) and behaves like a rocket launcher (as described here).
there is also railgun in Doom 2 Skulltag (which uses the same sound effect and particle effects as in Quake 2, just looks different), and Sojourn has another railgun in Overwatch 2.
Really? They are the most over represented sci fi weapons in FPS with plasma guns. They are like laser guns in the cartoons in the past. Although I think in certain games they can be called laser rifle. I can mention the laser rifle from Dévastation or the one in DX Human révolution. They do pierce through multiple enemies...

But granted I did not use many because they were maybe not that fun to begin with or as you already mentioned maybe just "laser weapons". But the turok ones were really amazing with alot of feedback while the one in Fallout4 (in my opinion) was a disaster.
@@murrischcat9098 if the game is realistic sure you won't see any but in sci fi games you tend to see a lot of rail and gauss rifles. Also if you add up mods there is even more. Don't get me wrong I love railguns, but when it's the only prototype gun in the game, I think that's meh. Mostly when games have thrown up gravity guns, sound cannons, microwave guns, shrink rays, cerebral bores, vortex generators, nukes, excalibats, shock rifles, lightning guns and BFGs at your face for you to enjoy. A weapon who starts to get some follow up now is the saw blade launcher, nailguns are also somewhat there in different forms. What I mean here is railguns are well loved and they are here (so they aren't underrated), however for me original guns are underrated even if they are making a come back due to the trend of boomer shooters coming back. But I haven't seen much groundbreaking guns nowadays. Also some weapons who exists are quite rare even if they appear more in recent games, like bows and crossbows, also spear guns, tranq guns, stun guns and air rifles. :)

I mostly see weapon compilations of pistols, shotguns or even snipers, especially with reload animations, thats why I was surprised by GiG choice to do railgun review 😀 because I usually do not see people talk that much about railguns in general
@@murrischcat9098 Personally regarding what the channel seems to aim for, I don't think that's really surprising. They made a full collection of the staple of FPS weapons which is the shotgun. So the railgun isn't much a surprise here. It's generally a sci fi sniper with some interesting twists and a well appreciated one. Sure in FPS you see more any sorts of pistols, mgs, shotguns, rifles, and some explosives. There is very few FPS without any of those. But if you take fictional weapons alone, railguns might even be the most frequent gun to have next to laser and plasma guns. I do play many FPS, and I personally don't play much games with the modern military or world war era games with a realistic settings. I rather play the games with a more fictionnal setting even when it uses historical influences. Like Necrovision, Wolfenstein, Half Life, or Duke Nukem to name a few.
I think, we'll see powerful manportable railguns in the next ten years (the main problem is energy source and the material for the rails). They will be used as anti-material & anti-sniper rifles, firing aluminum slugs at 4-5 km / s.
SUPERHOT: MIND CONTROL DELETE added a new weapon. The gun looks pretty cool and functions kind of like a railgun but sadly it doesn't pierce because you need to unlock the right hack(aka upgrade) for that. You should check it out when you get to that era of games!

The Quake 2 railgun is the real deal. If you got a really good reflex aim, you are almost unstoppable, as one of my friend did.
