In the letters round at 8:30, I'd have been really shocked if you'd declared the _other_ 8-letter word that was available: CATENOID. (It's a figure from topology that sort of looks like an inverted torus.) In the first numbers round, what I thought was the intuitive solution was this one: 100 x 6 = 600 10 x 9 = 90 90 - 10 - 2 = 78 600 - 78 = 522 There were also valid solutions based on factoring the target, which is divisible both by 6 and 9. The 9 is the easiest: 10 x 6 = 60 60 - 2 = 58 58 x 9 = 522 The 6 is a bit more complex, but it's easier to find if you're looking for it: 10 + 10 + 2 = 22 22 - 9 = 13 100 - 13 = 87 87 x 6 = 522 There's also a trick shot answer, but it's basically the same as the solution based on dividing by 9: 100 x 6 = 600 10 x 2 = 20 600 - 20 = 580 580 x 9 = 5220 5220 / 10 = 522 Frankly, I was surprised that Katie couldn't get the second round numbers puzzle. I'd say two tips are 1) Make any words you can even if they're small. Finding a small word can sometimes help you spot a larger one 2) Notice common prefixes and suffixes and see if the remaining letters can form a base word to use with it
Be older People who're good at words just know a LOT of words Kids are always very good at numbers, they have to be as they cannot match the adults' vocabulary
Non native English speaker here. We had this tv quiz format in in my country when I was a kid and I stumbled upon 8 out of 10 cats on youtube. I recognized it and went down the rabbit hole. I ended up here and I was quite surprised they let an adult compete against a kid. "How is that fair lol?" ... Boy, was I wrong. Well done. I don't know if you will read this but just out of curiousity, did you pursue any career path or likewise with your talents?
